Have you got LOW SPOTS in your lawn? Today I show you how to do it properly without leaving a big pile of soil behind which looks a mess and will leave a undesirable reminder of the low spot that you used to have.
The tools you will definitely need today are a half moon edging tool and a spade and or shovel. Optional extras that you could use today like I have is a tape measure, a string line some garden canes or sticks and a turf box and a saw,
Follow this video for a step by step guide on how to fix a low spot in your lawn, and if you like the video please hit that like button and please subscribe to my channel.

This did make me smile as I did the same to my front lawn 3 weeks ago (ground sunk a foot after the removal of a tree stump two years ago). I didn’t use the Pythagorean theorem to cut a square but it worked and very please with the result - it took 4 barrow loads of soil to raise it up to the correct level. Please keep the vids coming.

making me reconsider trying to level off my lawn this way 40m2. Mine was neglected before I moved in and is almost like a mound (lower at edges, higher in the middle) was planning on doing this and removing soil then placing back down level. If it wasnt as expensive for a skip I would bin the current grass and start fresh from seed. Also looking forward to your video on drainage for the garden/lawn. Sit lower than my neighbours garden and that one side usually pools up, french drain possibly the solution?

You could adapt the technique block pavers use to create a flat sand base; set up two rails either side, say 5cm thick scaff boards, then span a beam across with something 15cm sitting below it. You can then either slice more material out or add back in.

I have various undulating areas in my lawn, quite large so dealing with them the way you have in this video just isn't feasible, as we're talking about random large areas on a large lawn. So my thinking is that all I can do is fill and level with topsoil and then seed the various areas. It's going to take quite a large amount of topsoil, but I can't leave the highs and lows as they really spoil the look of the front garden (we've only just moved in). Do you agree? Would you use topsoil, or something else? I have bought the Field No.4 Organic Fine Grade Lawn Dressing for when I overseed it next week (cheers for the discount code, as I ordered 1500 litres!). Would you recommend another type of soil from Field Compost (or elsewhere), rather than just regular topsoil?
@DanielHibbertLawnExpert
@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Жыл бұрын
Some lawns just are too big for this type of work but i can only deal with whats in front of me, id rather have an undulating lawn than one which is patchy to be honest, as most the time you cant even see undulations when the grass is growing,
@DanielHibbertLawnExpert
@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Жыл бұрын
I wouldnt use the compost for levelling as it doesnt have any substance and will degrade very quickly, you need rootzone if going to do what you say
@TrueBrit1
@TrueBrit1 Жыл бұрын
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Thanks for your replies. Problem is you can clearly see the undulations, before or after cutting. I don't understand why they are there, but they are. I think that my only option is to level out the areas with topsoil, then seed it. Expensive and will take a lot of effort, but I can't bear looking at them, and when sorted it will make the front garden awesome.

Brilliant video Dan. Quick question. In the summer the edges of my lawn seem to shrink and create a small channel, between the grass and edging bricks I have surrounding the lawn. It’s like the whole area shrinks in the sun. Would you suggest I dig this out now and pack with more soil and seed now or pack in the height of the summer when it happens?
@DanielHibbertLawnExpert

All you need to do is water it its the ground drying out like in the borders when the soil gets fissures in it, even if you do what you suggest same thing will happen if you don’t water

@@djdusted6485 Yes, but I’m not that fussy with my lawn. It’s about 500 square metres, it’s not that smooth and the dogs tend to dig it up, scratch it up chasing balls etc. Personally I’m after solutions that give maximum bang for the buck, such as aerating, scarifying, reseeding etc.
@Tailspin80
@Tailspin80 Жыл бұрын
@@roger4880 Yes, that is what I would do as a homeowner. Different if you’re a pro gardener and want to get the whole job done in one go. If I worried about reseeding how would I deal with all the stuff that happened in our garden last year? Removed a large cedar, moved two raised beds and a small rockery, repaired grass after a temporary greenhouse for beans, tomatoes etc. If you’re trying to produce a golf green like finish then fine.
@roger4880

@@Tailspin80 What is the ask? If you know the answer then we can't add anything of value. Homeowner or pro gardener, doesn't matter, the result does. Any pro would not rush, if in a rush get a few rolls of turf.
