Thanks for sharing! I really want this Hammock . I sleep out in the winter! And it gets below 20° easily. I hope soon they will come up with a down under quilt and maybe even a rain protector. That will help insulate better.

I use the DD extra long underquilt. I use a couple of short branch swing straps over the ridgeline to anchor the carabiners and it does pretty well. Also swapped out the built in rainfly for the 12ft OneWind hammock tarp. Much lighter and better coverage than the one that comes with it (rode out a heavy thunderstorm a couple of weeks ago with no issues).

Easy way to keep strap in middle, tied parachord on both ends with a loop in the middle to hold the strap centered. Tied it to the stake loops on the head and foot. Puts a loop near the head and foot to keep the strap in place.

I’ve been tent camping off a motorcycle for 27 years. I sleep ok. I bought the haven XL because of all the positive comments and want to downsize from tent setup which Haven does nicely. Been in it 5 nights. 4 hanging and once on the ground. Have not had a good night sleep yet but will continue to work with it. Doing MABDR in July. Camping the whole way. Not sure if I’m doing the haven or my old tent…..

Really? I bought mine in April. Didn't get a chance to use it until June. I've used it with some stands i made to go under my truck tires, and for a week in the Minnesota Boundary Waters hanging in trees. Anywhere from 85 degrees to 26 degrees. I havent had a bad nights sleep yet. I use the air pump to fill the pad and then always top it off myself. To stop the crease in the pad i just make sure it is fully inflated. Only time I have noticed it was the first tim when i only used the air pump, and this last weekend when it dropped froms mid 60's down to 26 degress overnight. I also make my ridgeline very taught. I use the original straps and whoopie slings pulled tight to tension the ridgeline.

Superior Gear straps work very well also. Same concept but they have a hole in the buckle so you don't have to pull the strap all the way through like you do with the One Wind straps. If you already have the straps you can buy the buckles only. I have replaced the buckles on my One Wind hammocks with Superior Gear buckles. Easier to set up, easier to adjust, and I think they are also a bit lighter. I love your idea of the cot under the Haven XL and the strap under the center. The "V" in the center has me setting the Haven XL to the side. I'm going to try the center strap, Thanks!!!

You could stitch in some loops, on both ends and a couple along the bottom, to keep the strap centered. Even better. Stitch the foot end of the strap to the bottom of the foot end. If it stops at the very end, the foot end shouldn’t raise when you cinch the strap at the head

I just picked up a Safari and have to say that the V is annoying as hell and the pad has to be inflated super firm to negate it. I wonder, if in production, they sewed a strap underneath and into the body, with loops at each end to attached small whoopee slings to the carabiner; if that would solve the V issue. 🤔 That being said, it is such a comfortable setup and am trying to decide if the Thermarest MondoKing XXL is worth the upgrade if I'm going to do the strap mod anyway.
@LifeWithKernelLee
@LifeWithKernelLee 2 жыл бұрын
I brought up the v crease issue to them but dont hold your breath on production mods. Possibly a different air pad in the future. As far as the Mondo King, its the most comfortable pad Ive ever been on. Did you see my vid on it?Haven XL air pad Upgrade/Thermarest Mondoking 3D XXL kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gcxxoduSmp64lXU.html It doesn’t v crease near as bad and with the strap its non existent.

You know the cot really doesn’t make sense considering it’s a hammock/tent why would you need a cot and all that extra weight to carry when you can hang it 3.5/4 foot off the ground to be at the perfect height to sit up and get out of the hammock easier then it being pitched on the ground and the ridge line is well equipped for you to grab it and pull yourself up from a laying position.

Sometimes you don't have trees to set up a hammock, and poles aren't strong enough to hold the weight. Cot makes a good compromise.
