This is something I have wanted to do for a long time and it was great fun. Casting with tin is so much easier than I thought it would be and using it in silicone moulds can give you some great finishes and results.

top tip - a bit late to the party so may already be aware - dusting the mould first with baby powder ( Johnson's , etc) will give a much better surface on the cast. The powder breaks the surface tension on the metal and allows it to flow better and preventing the air bubbles. If it still goes wrong at least it will smell nice !!

Pro Tips: Tin Rusts. Either seal it or use it as an effect to color it. Just the acid from your fingers will rust it. I used to work with a lapidary (jewelry maker), The used their Dremel and and diamond bit (sold by degrees of the cut) and they would use acid to blacken the jewelry, buff it off and use the Dremel to add strategic sparkles. The crevices would have black outline, the buff would be a dull gray and then the sparkle would really stand out. Have fun.

I love the idea of using baking silicone molds for pewter casting. While I am just learning about resin casting, I have done pewter casting for almost 20 years. I can't help but be alarmed seeing you use water for a coolant. While I understand the cooling for the mold idea, you should never do metal casting in water. Casting on a tile on a baking sheet would save your counter and contain the over flow. Or maybe even using sand but that makes cleaning up the over flow for reuse later a pain in the bum.If you got water in the mold and pored the molten metal into it you risk a flash steam release causing metal to splatter explosively out of the mold. I love your channel and learn a lot from you. I appreciate all that you do. I would just hate to see you get hurt in any way. You are a good person and do not deserve that. Have fun with your new hobby. Working with metal is awesome fun. Lol. Remember to let it cool before picking up the just molten metal. You can get some pretty interesting burns by doing that. Don't ask me how I know this.😜😁

Ditch the water, preheat the moulds and use baby powder to coat the moulds. (brush off excess powder). Instead of water just place in a disposable baking tray. Great video. Keep up the good work.

How awesome. It's great to know that the tin didn't destroy your molds. I have used polymer clay in some of my molds and absolutely loved the results I got. My Dad used to make fishing flies and sinkers with lead, but now we know how dangerous that is. Great idea using the tin! Absolutely love when you try new things for us! Your experiments helps us immensely! So, thank you.🎨💜

Opshops (charity shops) regularly have milk saucepan in which have a spout (lip) for pouring and some flat fry pans as well have a spout. The milk saucepan are usually small and some have wooden handles to prevent you getting burnt. They are usually pretty cheap. Enjoying the experiment.

Hello Steve! Look for "Crucible" in your searches, adding the word "jewelry" or "melting metal". Common crucibles come in graphite, quartz and ceramic. Some you can get with spring type tongs to hold for heating and pouring. Amazon has quite a range. Love that you're exploring metalwork!

Great idea! But there is a problem here using the Teflon pan. When teflon overheats, and you cannot tell when that happens, it creates a toxic gas. This is not much harm to humans, but it is totally toxic to any pet birds in the area. I urge you to check up on this! Manufactures are now including warning labels on their products about this. Even if you had a veterinarian on the premises, there is no cure and the birds will die of respiratory distress.

Really bad idea to involve water and hot metal. The mold should be hot not cold, this si why you get all sorts of surface defects. Also never ever use water with hotter metal. And be aware that this frying pan when overheated will off gas toxic fumes.
