When I caught waves in California before I moved to Hawaii, we always gave it 72 hours to clean up after the rain or it could cause infections. It was easier to do there because it didn’t rain as much. It rains a lot in Hawaii, so there are pollution problems in various spots across the islands when it rains. I think it cleans up fast in most places, but giving it 24 hours after it rains would be wise at least to avoid infections.

My main beach on Kauai was brown for WEEKS after the last big storm. It’s not even a bay not sure how that happened.

Watch out for Lepto. All da pala kukai coming down from mauka. Stay out of da ocean. Keep da keikis out. I know. I got leptospirosis. Not fun. Supa high fever really fast. Chills, vomiting jaundice. If you see any of this, you need one Huge shot of antibiotics right away. Malama ohana. Be akamai. God bless.
