This is my second remix of the new CBS remake of Hawaii Five-O's opening credits. Retained is the Morton Stevens immortal theme music, but this time I replaced much of the original footage from the original show with a lot of new shots from the new series. Also included is a credit to Leonard Freeeman. Hope you enjoy.

You've outdone yourself, DS9Sisko! I like this one over the other one you did before. I like the scenes you chose from the pilot. CBS should definitely use you to do the H50 intro.

Timing is a little off in the first 1/2 but still not bad. I like the hood-slide clip and the credit to Lenard Freeman. Oh, and thanks for working the DC-8 back in. I never get tired of seeing that plane fly over.

I see what you're getting at. IMHO it really hooks up at Grace Park. Yes, I remember the changes and the spinning flaming car from the later years. Good job working with them. This video project isn't the easiest to edit. I'm still trying to get all three of the featured planes into one my versions for a Douglas Aircraft tribute.

I don't like the official "updated" theme music, but I like the visuals. This is a nice blend of both. CBS should use YOUR version!

@Hawaiifive01 The video is edited on the main downbeat track and the staccato drumbeats as weel as certain instrumental cues, just like the original series. If you look at the original openings of 5-0, you see that the sequences are edited exactly the same way. At Grace Park, the editing is "tighter" because the music at that point "kicks" into a faster beat and changes register. Editing isn't just about matching primary beats, also mood, melody, and atmosphere.

Apprarantly, CBS may have taken a stint of your idea because they revamped the theme to what everybody is familiar with. It actually sounds better than their original remake, plus they gave Len Freeman his props in the opening credits from now on.

I won't be bothering with the show, but this is still a damn good mash up. Just illustrates that you can do more with fast cutting and sharp timing than you can with the usual standard issue motherloade of tired, quickly-dated CG. Thumbs up!

@Hawaiifive01 Actually, the timing isn't off at all. After I did the first version of this "remix" (which is badly off in a number of places), I went back and matched the beats & edits of only to the clips and the music, but also to the openings of the original series. Although some of clips from the original series are repositioned, if you go back through EVERY opening of the original show (as I did, and which I watched growing up), you'll see I was completely faithful to the original.

Well, we won. The clumsy, ugly remix has been scrapped. They got the musicians back in the studio, re-recorded the full theme and that is what will now be used instead. It sounds great. It sounds even better knowing that Kurtzman was willing to admit that a mistake was made and that there are somethings that you just don't change. The theme to Hawaii Five-O is one of those things.

The original hotel zoom in had shakeycam action 30 years before it was cool and overdone to death. I bet 40 years ago the guys who put the original intro together hated that zoom because it was so wobbly. ;) (That's the past decade of shakeycam action just being annoying and pointless.)
