Lahaina Front Street, one of the most visited spots in Maui, has always held a special place in the hearts of our family. From our childhood visits in 1990 to our recent trip in June, Front Street has been a constant source of joy and memories.
During our last visit, we felt compelled to record a video capturing the essence of this vibrant street. Little did we know that this would become a poignant reminder of what once was.
Today, on August 9, 2023, devastating news of the billions of dollars in damage to Lahaina and its surrounding communities, particularly Front Street, has left us heartbroken.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone on the island as they face this unimaginable loss. Through sharing this video, we hope to bring a glimmer of happiness and pay tribute to the beauty and spirit of Lahaina Front Street.

Thank you for letting me see this one last time. I grew up here. My mother worked on front street. Went to school at King K 3 elementary. I broke into tears watching this, but Lahaina will always be in my memories of what it once was.

I'm so very sorry for your loss in the loss of all Maui people. I visited your island once when I was 16 years old. I now reside in the always have in Arizona. I found true Peace, Love, and Serenity on the island of Maui; its deep in the roots,culture and the whole environment... And that can never be destroyed!! My wife is From Oahu, and we have been to Maui together at least a dozen times. Lahaina was one of my favorite places in the world. It had so much character. If you carried any stress, just walking down the street melted it away. We just watched this together and it made us both cry. I will always miss what a special place it was. Thank you for sharing..

As an Australian we know how devastating fire can be, 173 people died in the Black Saturday fire in 2009 in Victoria, so very sad for you and we all share your loss and grief.

Wooden houses catch fire and especially if they are all adjoining or built in close proximity. Nice looking place. Hopefully it can be rebuilt as can the spirit of the people of Lahaina

Your story is similar to ours, our mom with dementia, this was her last vacation as an entire family and we have so many pictures of her and memories of her on Front Street. It was a place to come for me to remember her and share her memories with my children. I still can't believe this is real

So many memories of my 13 years in Lahaina. From walking down this same stretch of road during Halloween like it was Mardi Gras to eating at Kimos and even working at Crazy Shirts. Watching movies at the wharf (before they closed the theater), eating at Cool Cats and sitting under the Banyan tree. All those places and so many more are just that now.. memories. 😢

Devastated. Was there last October and getting ready to go back. It'll never be the same. This place is relegated to memory only now, for those of us lucky to have walked Lahainas whimsical streets. For 15 years I lived in Lahaina. I’m gonna miss that hot-as-balls, termite infested, no a/c having rent-too-high apartment with 5am roosters waking my ass up, bum fight, drunk tourist, broken green bottle, one motorcycle and two bicycles stolen, cruise ship gift shop, baby beach sunset with a 12 pack drinking, 20-something gorgeous bikini wearing hottie having, waves breaking right, shave ice, lunch plate eating, banyan tree Christmas tree lighting, tiki carving, all night bonfire ukulele playing, Keith and his parrot bicycle riding, oh it’s too windy so I’ll cancel my whale watch an have breakfast at Pioneer Inn instead paradise on Earth. It was the best time of my life with the best people I’ve known and it will never be the same again and I will miss it until the day I die. Maui Nō Ka’Oi

I have visited 3 times 10 days each. Traveled all around the island, by bus rental car and tours. This is in my heart as my favorite place on earth. I met wonderfull aloha there. Stayed at the pioneer Inn, ate meals, walked up and down Front Street to baby beach 3 or 4 ties a day. This video is in my heart and memeries. Forverer. Im 65 Thanks, Im sure many people share the love for lahaina town. Ohhhhh so sad..... my favorite place of all.

This was our families happy place. The only place on earth that we were all always happy. Always had a good time. We took this video so that we could be able to watch it and just be happy when we wanted to escape our normal day to day life and go back to Front Street. So happy we did.

We were just here, last summer, with my 86 yr old mother. This is (was) her favorite part of Hawaii for 3 decades with my recently deceased father. Such a deep loss, also a reminder to live life everyday, bc you don't know when something you want to do may be lost forever. It’s not lost forever they will rebuild, but yeah it will never be like this video shows it to be again it will be much much newer hopefully they make it as vibrant with all the cool colors and stuff or try to salvage whatever is left of the old town and maybe incorporate it into the building of the new town (if there is anything that is able to be salvaged)

Oh, what a horror the ancient Banyan trees on Maui have perished! What a pity, oh my God, these are such trees, we lost them oh my God! When American missiles destroy cities and kill people in Ukraine, none of the Americans says ooh what a horror our missiles have killed people somewhere thousands of miles away from America! Same for us and our family. We have probably visited well over a dozen times since I was 5 years old. We started bringing our kids 8 years ago and they have been 4 times since they were born. Front street was Maui. This is devastating.

Evil exists!! Even on the beautiful island of Maui. My heart breaks for the innocent!! This was no natural Wildfire!!! My memories of this gorgeous town will never be erased.😢😢

Thank you for sharing. I've been to Lahaina... I wanted to move to Maui. Good thing I didn't because I came down with cancer and my spouse died not long after. I still ended up losing 95% of what I had including my home of 30 yrs. It seemed like one thing after another. HOWEVER ❤ I learned that God created our hearts to heal. He did NOT cause my trials but he shows me how to COPE WITH HOPE for a better future. As long as there is LIFE there is HOPE. I'm sorry for the friends and family who lost loved ones and their loved pets. 💔🌴💔🌴 Maui still has much BEAUTY- just please take the time to appreciate the gorgeous beaches and oceans and nature. Healing is not far off.

@@Chiproducts I was staying in Kaanapali but was in Lahaina on the evening of the 6th to go to the Feast a Lele Luau on 505 Front St. Went back again a couple times after that, after the 7th. All of my little Maui souvenirs and gifts I bought from little shops on Front St. All those shops are ashes now. 😢

@@Chiproducts My wife and I were married 30 years ago in a church in Kapalua. We've been back about 15 times since, and Lahaina is special to us. I wish I had made a video of Front Street. Just never imagined it would be gone. Thanks so much for preserving it for us.

Had beautiful memories here. This video made me cry. It's almost like my memories were burned away too. :( But More importantly, the people and animals who called this home, how absolutely devastating. RIP to those who lost their lives in Lahaina.

Yeah man. I have pictures as a kid next to the banyan tree, and also through my adult years. My little sanctuary is gone, and yes.. screw us non residents right now. The people of Maui need help!
