These buns are easy to make and always come out tender. Traditionally they are served at 9 course Chinese dinners with Peking duck skin slathered with hoi sin sauce and green onion. You can also eat them with kau yuk, any braised meat or even cold cuts and eat like a sandwich. They are so delicious and light. Some restaurants sell the bau buns but they are very expensive. You can freeze the buns for a later date so you always have it ready to eat. They can be steamed or microwaved.

Cutting parchment paper is humbug! On Amazon you can buy pre-cut papers of various sizes. I have 12” rounds for use in my wok steamer and rectangular sheets I use in my air-fryers. Easy cleanup. The papers I bought also have pre-cut holes to allow steam/heat to filter through. Great video. Mahalo.

You can make your own by taking a square piece of paper, folding it in half several times till you have a skinny triangle. Put the point in the center of the pan and cut the end at the edge of the pan. Open up and you have a circle.

The dough was remarkably perfect when I took it off of the mixer; it wasn't sticky and so easy to handle. The texture of the bun was billowy soft and delicious. It far surpasses the frozen buns sold at the Asian markets around town. Thank you for sharing your NO FAIL recipe.

Now you don't have to spend lots of money to buy them. It's too expensive for me to buy most things, that's why I like the challenge of figuring out things. Guess it's the Chinese in me.

You can do it, save a lot of money. Costs .85 to a dollar for one.

Hi. Liked your recipes. One question though, was the mixer on slow up until the dough was ready to come out?

That's how it gets when the dough is ready and kneaded by machine.

@@HawaiisPickleLady i used my kitchen aid mixer and i increased the speed. My dough was not good. I guess i need to put it in slow speed until the dough comes together. Thank you.

It's a different kind of dough, usually has eggs to give it the nice color. See Char Siu bau buns.
