Ringo is a great drummer. He's a minimalist--he doesn't put in extra strokes if they don't advance the song. He puts in exactly the perfect right beat.

Isn't this a travesty that people think Ringo wasn't that good?? He was GREAT! He gave the band impeccable time and he always supported the song! His chops were spot-on and he actually wrote/composed drum parts that were unlike any who had come before! He deserved that spot up on the big riser because he was an EQUAL member of the Beatles, period! Plus...folks...all you need to do is watch his playing throughout the years, leading up to today -- His new music is PHAT!! The drumming on his new songs is completely World Class! Now, is he a "larger than life" player like Neil Peart was? No, but he was excellent nonetheless! Ringo is Rock Solid and that's all you need to know! :)

Don't forget, they got started in the early 60's. He is left-handed and drum sets were set up for right-handers. So Ringo learned to adapt even though the drum set up was not ideal for a left hander. This means that he had to come up with ways to compensate. Other rock drummers have mad respect for his little innovations and ability.

Ringo gets flack for not being a flashy drummer. What makes him great is that he never tries to overshadow the song. He gives it exactly what it needs...no more, no less.

Ringo was unique. He put in amazing little reverse fills and made songs like Rain so special. For me, he is one of the most creative drummers of all time, if not the most technical.

People who says that Ringo was awful at drumming doesn’t know anything about drumming, at all. Ringo WAS THE PERFECT drummer for them. He was the pioneer of inventing drum patterns (in my opinion) and some examples of him inventing cool and groovy drum patterns are In My Life, Ticket To Ride, I Feel Fine, Taxman, Come Together, and so on…

Ringo invented so many iconic drum parts like Ticket to Ride, Rain and Come Together and that perfect drum solo in the medley on Abbey Road. I'll take Ringo over any rock drummer in any other band!

@@betsyab121 exactly. He was literal perfection. The lads said that when they were taking breaks and stuff, Ringo was always just there on his drums, and finding the perfect sound for that particular song.

Harrison employed Indian classical meters to this song, completely unheard of western pop music before. And still made it sound like a perfect pop song. This is why Harrison was an absolute musical genius. His stuff is so sublime the untrained ear doesn’t know the difference

My mom passed away almost 3 years ago after a long battle with cancer. The day she died was the first "real" spring day of the year; she passed in April. She had hundreds of songs on her own file on the Ipod that she had prepared for her deathbed process. She was a huge Beatles fan and as I said it had hundreds of songs from hundreds of different artists to be played in no random order. As soon as she took her last breath, this song played, while she layed in bed placed beneath an open window. The curtains blowing softly and the soft yellow sun shining in and down on her. I believe it was her way of letting us know she was ok. ❤

Ringo was not only was a good drummer (still is), but he was a big personality. He was very popular. He sang lead a few times, too!

George Harrison wrote this and sings it. The Beatles were a true musical institution. They all pitched in and gave it their ALL. Billy Preston played with these guys back in those days. 1969-1970.

People who say Ringo Starr is not a good drummer don't know what they're talking about. Any professional drummer today will tell you that he was a great drummer. There is a video right here on KZfaq where several highly-regarded and well-known rock drummers talk about what made Ringo such a good drummer.

"Rain" is a great, oft overlooked Beatles song that allows Ringo to shine a little more (and one of Paul's best on bass). Give that one a try.

Ringo has excellent time, feel, groove , swing, memorable beats. Logically, Do people think Lennon, McCartney and Harrison would have recorded their precious songs with a hack drummer? Seriously? Their producer George Martin praised him on multiple occasions for his metronomic time! Ringo may not be someones' favorite kind of drummer but to say he's bad shows a lack of knowledge of music and drumming. Ask 5 professional drummers about Ringo and see what their opinion of Ringo is. Not everyone has to be Neil Peart to be considered excellent !

You are absolutely correct sir. Ringo Starr was perfect for the Beatles. When John and Paul heard Ringo playing they knew he was what they were missing so they asked Ringo to be part of the band even tho he was somewhat older than they were. Ringo is still making music and I think still playing with Ringo Starr and His All Star Band which I was fortunate to see twice. Been a fan of The Beatles since 1964. When I was a teen in the 60's everyone couldn't wait for the next album. Sometimes 2 in the same year and every song delicious!

He is a rhythmic drummer and fully understand how good he is you need to watch him playing live it doesn’t matter what song they play he is always In Toon with that song he never slips up! Ringo was not a "flashy" drummer. But he was much more creative than people give him credit for. Plus, he was left handed playing a right-handed kit. If you want flashy drumming, listen to Rush. Ringo was PERFECT for The Beatles.

I'm a musician. People who say Ringo isn't a good drummer are musically ignorant. He was the PERFECT drummer for The Beatles and he kept time perfectly. He wasn't a flashy drummer, no...but he played just what the song needed. No more, no less. He was innovative.

Ringo is regarded by many as one of the top drummers in England at that time, and maybe even, still. He wasn't as flashy as some others, but he knew how to keep up a perfect beat for that style of music. And there were a lot of rhythm changes. There are so many great Beatle's tunes I never see being reacted to. Only a handful of the same ones. Try, 'I need you', or 'You Can't do That', 'You're Going to Lose that Girl', 'Savoy Truffle', 'Honey Pie', 'Girl'. The list is endless.

Poor Ringo. When the other 3 guys in your band are John, paul, and george, you've got the highest bar possible. Ringo wasn't a flashy player, but he was creative, innovative, and artistic in his drumming. His style complemented the great songwriting of his band mates.

I will fight people to the death over two things: 1. That this is the best song George Harrison wrote while with the Beatles. 2. That Ringo is one of the most creative and influential drummers ever. People who say he’s a rubbish drummer are usually people who have never even sat behind a drum kit, but ask any drummer about Ringo, they will assure you he is one of the best.

I go with While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I feel like, as good as his other songs are, 95% of fans have that, Here Comes the Sun and Something as their top 3 Harrison. The only difference is the order.

George really got it right on the Abbey Road songs . And Paul:s bass made great songs even greater . I've played in bands since the 70s and not many drummers could handle what they gave Ringo , multiple feels , time changes . Drummers know how good he was .

Ringo is one of the best ever! He was raised by his grandmother and she could only afford a right handed set of drums. Ringo is left handed. Later when people tried to copy his technique and couldn't, he said I'm just a left handed drummer on a right handed set. Genius

The story is that George was hanging out w/friend & Beatles collaborator Eric Clapton, commiserating over the band’s painful split. George borrowed a guitar & wrote this while wandering around Clapton’s backyard - that is, “garden” - completing it, allegedly, in two hours. (I adore the song, but persistently think of the title as “Little Darling.” : / )

Ringo inspired a plethora of kids to take up the drums as did the whole group inspire kids to start rock groups. They were the first to do a concept album Rubber Soul they called it the weed album and this is when they started to really mature and experiment as musicians and .when most albums were just singles thrown to together and most bands did not write their own songs as the Beatles did. Sgt Pepper the first album with lyrics and it change music . They had aprox 20 NUMVER ONE hits and once had 13 songs in the top 100 a the same time. They were the first to use orchestra and foreign instruments like the Sitar. The group is in the Rock hall of fame and so is each member for their solo careers as well. To those who say Ringo wasn't a good drummer try and image their songs w/o him and what other drummer played on 300 songs most of them hits. He wasn't flashy and played the right drum for each song and never overshadowed the music. They had 13 albums in seven years and are still loved today 1964-1970 though they were together in the late 50's before coming to America. Several years they released two albums in one year. They invented most the way music is recorded theses days, album art is also one of their contributions, I was lucky to be a teen when they came to the USA had a Beatle Hair cut, shoes and we all sang their songs on the bus to and from school. BTW the movie A Hard Days Night also is responsible for how music videos are shot.

This song made me realize that the sun is the real mvp. Our star gave us life. One day it is going to have to die and unfortunately we all go with it. So each day we should be thankful it’s still sticking around.

There was a documentary about people climbing Mt Everest. During the climb, a huge storm arose and about 8 of the 25 or so climbers died. But the story is about also those who survived. And as they film the beautiful mountain the next morning, the soundtrack is The Beatles playing “Here Comes the Sun.” And it’s just perfect.

Ringo wasn't a show-off. That is why some people don't understand how good he is. The Beatles have so many songs that you can recognize just by hearing the drums. Most drummers would die to have even one song that can be recognized that way!!

Ringo was a rock solid, craftsmanlike drummer. The problem was, he was in a band with two legendary singer/songwriter/multi-instrumental geniuses, and one of the top guitar gods.

Fool on the Hill from Magical Mystery Tour. They had many different styles, but you never had to guess whose song it was. I was 15 when they hit the charts, so they were a huge presence in my teens and early twenties.

ringo can really turn it on when he wants, but the main job as a drummer is to keep time and hold everything together, he does that better than most drummers, but he can really turn it on when he wants, for example in the song 'the end', strawberry fields, i am the walrus, but i like the drumming in the night before the most because it sound very delicate but the triplets on the bell of the ride and pairing it up with the pattern on the toms is outrageous, for me

There's an old story that Gene Krupa addressed a letter simply to the Best Drummer in the World. It went to Keith Moon, who sent it on to Neil Peart, who sent it one to John Bonham, who sent it on to Buddy Rich, who, being Buddy Rich, opened it and read aloud, Dear Ringo. :)

Ringo had perfect timing. He listened to the musicians and backed THEM....in TIME every time. Listen to "I Feel Fine" and Ringo's drumming. I've been in a band for 20+ years and drummers cannot play like Ringo. on that song. It's too freekin hard!

The people I've heard criticize Ringo have been non-drummers. The people I've heard who say he was a genius have been drummers. 'Nough said.

One reason they were so popular and each generation gets into them is alot of their songs are about love peace hope and optimism, but in a cool way, not cringey.
