I'm not crying, you're crying. When this book came out I was a teenager newly diagnosed with OCD, afraid I would feel this way forever. I thought I would always be sad and anxious and alone. That I would never be capable of having a meaningful romantic relationship. Well just last week I was having a panic attack and my husband rested his head against mine just like Davis does to Aza at the end of this trailer and told me, "Your now is not your forever." (He has heard a LOT about John Green from me.) It's going to be so weird to watch this movie knowing how far I've come and that I started out just like Aza. Everybody told me it would get better but I didn't really believe them. Turtles All the Way Down, and John Green in general, was one of the things that gave me hope. It's my "An Imperial Affliction."

As a person who just graduated high school - this movie is probably the most funny (in a non cringey way), relatable and heartfelt teen centred movie I've watched in a long time. I don't have OCD but the way the characters interact and responses are so reflective of how teens act these days. I actually laughed at the jokes and can feel what the characters are feeling because I have been in those situations before. Highly recommend.

I’ve had untreated OCD since I was a kid but I got diagnosed within the past few days as I had an intense break down and I informed my doctor etc and was able to start treatment right away. John Green has always been one of my favorite people ever and I watched this movie alone first at 6AM because I knew I’d be triggered. I had to stop in between. I had to allow myself to cry. But my goodness did I feel the uttermost valued, seen, and understood. And Isabela absolutely destroyed this character ! She was incredible and the rest of the cast. I had my husband and one of my bestfriends watch it with me last night and they both cried as well and it opened up not just for them to understand but to look deep at things maybe they need to uncover. Being diagnosed with OCD and starting treatment and having to speak this outloud, it’s one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. But this movie has become such a support movie for me that I watch it out of just feeling so much love for knowing things can get better. The ending was absolutely crafted beautifully. There are so many things in this film that I love but I just adore Green. He’s a gem and we don’t deserve him by any means but I’m so proud of him for using his platform to speak about this condition and be able to challenge people to not look at OCD as this huge red flag of an illness but that were just trying to thrive in the midst of feeling like we are surviving. The flight or fight is hard. I was told that OCD is like tug of war hut we must win.

Even though this is evidently a romance I’m actually really happy that there’s an adaptation of a story that is so character focussed and centralizes on the characters friendship I feel like in a lot of teen movies similar to this the best friend is someone that’s kind of off to the side and isn’t centralized or if they are it’s not in a positive way so this actually looks really good

It’s just a story where romance happens tbh. Likely being marketed to look more romance forward because peolle are drunk of bad hollow romances right now 😂 Gotta hook them into something good.

I don’t have OCD, but when the woman said “No matter how scared you are, you never stop trying” tears came to my eyes. All my life my mind tried to convince me that the worst events would happen if I didn't follow its instructions and it was very very difficult to ignore those thoughts. I had forgotten how strong I was and I still am. Edit: today i was diagnosed with OCD :,)

Turtles All The Way Down was the first piece of media I'd ever encountered that actually captured the experience of OCD. (Which makes sense, since the author has personal experience with it.) I'm looking forward to seeing this one!

I LOVED this book when it first came out because it was the first time I had ever read an accurate representation of how anxiety manifests. It's funny because in the book it was never explicitly stated that she had OCD, so I didn't make the connection that I also had OCD until I was diagnosed YEARS later AND found out John Green revealed in the interview that the main character had OCD. I've read this book more times than I can count just because of how much it resonated with me. It made me feel seen and not so crazy. I even read parts of it to my husband to help him understand what my OCD spirals look and feel like. Really a life changing book for me. While I've been waiting for a movie adaption....I'm really scared this won't represent it right. First, WHERE THE HECK IS THE WHOLE MISSING PERSON PLOT?? I know it didn't have a HUGE bearing on the plot, but it was the driving force of the story. Also, they're playing it out as a really happy romance story, but it's not. Just because this book meant so much to me, I'm really scared how this will turn out. Guess we'll see on May 2nd.
