I truly believe the Otis and Ruby relationship scared the writers. They clearly didn’t see anything long term with it but we’re surprised that a large portion of the fanbase enjoyed this relationship more than Otis and Maeve. These two deserved a writing team that wasn’t scared of them

I genuinely don't understand how people could prefer him with Maeve! Ruby and Otis have way more chemistry and its a better story. Maeve got annoying after season 2. Team Ruby all the way.

The criminal thing about the show and the last season is that this beautiful story is about a sweet, beautiful girl with a tough exterior who softened for Otis and showed such vulnerability towards him, that they sort of tossed it out. What a shame. I loved the scene at home when he crashed there and she remained vulnerable. End stunk!

Otis and Ruby should have been the ending couple, in my opinion. It's a shame that Otis ended up single, hopefully they'll eventually reconnect somewhere down the line.

The chemistry between ruby and Otis felt effortless. Maave and Otis felt forced couple. Even though there was no rotis kiss it still felt good to watch them together. Maave and Otis were together but it just felt artificial!

It’s hard not to fall in love with the vulnerable and caring person Ruby was when she was with Otis. Wish they would’ve ended up together.

How do they manage to always make me root for the "2nd" girl? She's a total Queen B and I love her. Her character is fascinating, she's tough, she's so so caring and loving, beautiful and just ICONIC. I hope this character will stay relevant for many years to come. Mimi did a great job, although I think there's also so much of her in Ruby.

If only after Rubys reply of 'I have enough friends'. Otis would then turn around and say 'then why don't we be something more than friends'

So the show ends with Maeve leaving Otis for a second time to go to America, and now both Otis and Ruby are heart broken all over again. It felt like a strange repeat of season 3's emotional arc.

They are ITTTTT. The show wasn't brave enough to give us the endgame. But they will be endgame in my heart.

I am for one more episode (as a special episode) with a happy ending. It was hard to see Otis and Ruby‘s friendship ended like this and they deserve much better.

I didn't know how much I hated Otis and Mauves relationship until Otis and Ruby together. It was so cool seeing Ruby's defensive walls gradually come down. When she confessed and Idiot Otis didn't say it back, I rolled my eyes so much it hurt. Haha!

Once again, this season proved Ruby was a far better match. In my mind they ended up together.

Ruby and Otis were the best ship in this whole series. The end of the series is still just the beginning of their adult lives, and I feel they will find their way back together. Once he's ready to move on (now that he and Maeve are officially over), Otis can start winning back Ruby's trust, friendship, and love. She threw down the gauntlet in their last scene and let him know she wasn't going to wait around pining as his friend or settle for being his fallback girl after a glib apology. With Otis' little smile, it feels like he got the message and will take up the challenge when he's ready. It's probably about the best we could have hoped for with these writers. He and Ruby had way more of a dating relationship in the series than he had with Maeve. Ruby and Otis had fun together, went on dates, communicated openly about personal things, were highly sexually compatible, and were together when they were together. They actually were bringing out the best in each other when they were dating-she loosened him up from all his inhibitions while he broke down her walls. It's quite different from how Erik describes Otis always ignoring everyone else to chase Maeve. That repeatedly led to tension and isolation from others. It feels like (with all the near misses and never getting to have stable relationship time together) his connection with Maeve was more infatuation and idealizing someone. Kinda like she was his Emo Pixie Dream Girl. Otis and Maeve spent season after season playing games. They got held back by poor communication, choosing other people repeatedly, and by pretending that they were fine with being just friends. With one sentence Ruby just said that she isn't going to participate in playing that game.

Man the writers didnt know what gold they'd struck with these two.

I believe the writers were scared about the chemistry of this ship. I still remember in university the class to write where the professor a veteran fantasy writer said, "Don't write a word of your saga if you don't know what is going to happen, how it's going to happen, and why, but never be afraid of change things if the characters grow in a new direction in a way that becomes so natural, even if you did not think it before ."

I love how Ruby turns to be one of my fav characters in this series. She wore a mask to avoid pain, but truly has a good heart.

I usually don't enjoy characters who are popular girls like Ruby, but the development and acting was so good I totally rooted for her. And I found Otis and Ruby quite touching.

Here's what i think about season 4 : The writers knew how much we hate Otis and Maeve so they didn't dare to make them the endgame but since they were their main couple from the start they wanted to force our mind that their love was so true but the funny thing is from their own writing we all know Maeve didn't care about Otis at all she didn't come back for him and i don't hate her for that she is allowed to follow her dreams but she lied about it and said Otis was the reason i hate her for that we clearly saw she came back because she was rejected there and then even when the writers was always trying to force Otis and Maeve i clearly felt Otis's love for ruby when they were trying to make the video for example when he was freaking out he was so relaxed when Ruby talked to him for a second and he really wanted to spend the night with him and i feel like he brought up Ruby before sleeping with Maeve because he wanted to be with her instead there was no reason for bringing it up exactly in that moment if it didn't mean anything so when he said to her that it didn't mean anything he lied to so their relationship was the most toxic relationship i have ever seen with absolutely no chemistry so it wasn't true love at all!! I just wish the writers cared a little about their viewers and made the amazing Otis and Ruby the endgame properly

The whole last season they had subtle hints of them ending up together like the sleep over and the comment from O about her waiting for him to realize he wanted her all along. Then the bus drives off the cliff....

I think Ruby deserves a spin off series the characters great and the actress is brilliant.

The fact that Otis never had issues with Ruby with their physical relationship is telling. Otis had problems with Ola, the weird alien girl and of course Maeve.

Ruby had so much character growth over the course of her relationship with Otis. I'm kind of sad that they didn't end up together.

You guys do not understand how upset I was when these two did not get a good ending. Ruby's character development when she got with Otis was one of the best things ever. Especially when she talked about her dad and she said "I love you" first. But whatever, I'm my world, they ended up together.

I was always rooting for him to stay with his maeve, but the writers always had that "will he or won't he" joke between the two of them that got tiring. Then Ruby showed up and stayed with Otis and I simply loved her. They were supposed to end up together.

They’re were a perfect couple story imo. Tells us you can win the girl you never thought you’d get just by being yourself and sometimes that girl is alot more than what she makes herself look

These show writers obviously wrote for their own narratives and agenda and not fan wishes. If they really wanted to close this show out uniquely and brilliantly, they would have made three endings. One with the original which everyone saw, one with Otis and Maeve riding off into the sunset and the final with Otis and Ruby giving it another go and people could watch whichever suited them. Everyone would be happy yet now many people are unfulfilled.

I like to believe that after the finale, these 2 ended up together eventually. I honestly wished the show would've ended that way, Meave and Otis work so much better as friends.

One of the things I really love about their relationship is how Otis automatically becomes cool and confident around her and isn't fumbling over his words or afraid to speak his mind. It makes for a really fun, playful and flirtatious dynamic that I just melt for

I didn't even expect these two to get together when I started the show but I really liked their relationship and how Ruby changed and became an amazing person. Season 4 was kind of a let down for me but I really wanted Ruby and Otis to end up together, don't know why the writers decided to end it as such a note. I am not satisfied with the ending at all

If you really think about it. Ruby actually has a higher chance of getting back with Otis after the ending than Maeve. Maeve gives closure to otis but Ruby denies Otis friendship. Ruby did not reject Otis, she sounds more like "I have enough friendship, try other status". Ruby really knows what she wants.❤❤😂😂

This show really felt very close to my heart, it made me feel safe & confortable.

What I hate about this show was that Meave never seemed to respect Otis and saw him as the nerd she was too good for (3/4 of of the first season at least) and Ruby straight up respected him way more even though she saw him as a hookup partner at first. Meave hooked up with that athlete and did a bunch of stuff to hurt Otis while Ruby genuinely was just so much better for otis. Ruby and Otis are the only real couple in this relationship: IDK why it is so common that we go for things that are bad for us or that hurt us instead of just choosing to go for things that are right and genuine for us. I think that Otis likes Maeve because she brought him out of the bubble he was in when starting out but Ruby made him more comfortable with himself and confident in himself. He is gonna miss out on a keeper by being with Meave. Edit: Otis needs to get with Ruby and move forward because Maeve always played with him, his feelings and his time/attention/energy. Ruby kinda was down from the start and the actual gem that he needs.

Just read the description to this video and I think the same thing. At that point, Ruby had been playing the waiting game with Otis for so long that she’d rather just get straight to the point instead of hoping their friendship would blossom into romance. But at the same time, maybe Ruby has lost all interest in Otis and just left him entirely. While sad, she does deserve better. Even if they were to get together, there would always be the thought in the back of Ruby’s mind wondering what could happen if Maeve ever returned. I was just always confused as to why Otis never loved Ruby. She was the first person he was able to have sex with- more than once, she changed her lifestyle to level with him and seek an actual relationship, and she brought him into her own world by introducing Otis to her father. Maeve hardly did HALF of that stuff, and arguably caused Otis more grief if anything. Maeve’s true love was writing. Otis true love was Maeve. Ruby’s true love was Otis. That, absolutely sucks. It’s even more disgusting when O calls out Otis for not caring about Ruby and he just shrugs it off. I’ve just, lost alot of respect for Otis. He’s grown from this sympathetic shy guy to such a selfish jerk. I just hope if we ever see these characters again, he’s matured quite a bit. But, in my head, Otis eventually fixed his act together and reached out to Ruby. By any chance, do you guys know any shows, movies, or books that has a similar story dynamic trope as Ruby and Otis but does it better?

The writers dropped the ball so incredibly hard with Otis and Ruby, they were the only couple that genuinely felt perfect, the relationships had rocky roads and cheating but theirs was perfect.

I'm not usually interested in hetero couples, but they were sooo cute (plus i have a weakness for the "popular girl falls for new/loner/introverted character" dynamic)

season 4 for me was just badly made at a point they hung out and end up cuddling, but then they turn otis into a manipulative guy and end up hurting and using her. while i think they were the perfect fit cause he was confident around her, she didnt play games and always showed him how that she wanted him just a simple and true instant connection. they should have been the endgame couple. can't believe i waited 2.5 years to be dissapointed
