Hover-1 Pioneer Speed Limiter Test (DOES IT WORK?)

I saw a few KZfaqrs disconnecting a white wire on the Hover-1 Pioneer that was said to be the Speed limiter. I assume this is to allow the scooter to go past 15 mph or to prevent the controller from cutting out the power once it hits 15mph (correct me if I'm wrong). I couldn't find any video proving if this works or not. Today I will be putting the speed limiter to the test on the Hover-1 Pioneer Electric scooter. Does it really work?

The white wire is for the safety braking. When going downhill it prevents the scooter from coasting faster than the limit. It does not affect the top speed of the scooter under its own power on level ground.

Quick reminder: In the Gotrax models, the battery and controller is located within the stem. This the cylindrical section from the handle bars down to the front wheel.

To anyone that thinks around 20 MPH Roughly is not moving that quick, you really are moving pretty fast for an electric scooter to the point where you are almost keeping up with other cars, and going through school zone barely legally. Not to mention legally in illinois where i live they cannot exceed 20 mph, so I Bought a Ninebot ES2 with battery upgrade to achieve this. Or for Hover, I feel the best option for the money is the Hover-1 Alpha. A 450 watt motor is insane.

White wire is a temp switch I believe, which slows speed when it heats up.

I like the pioneer model so much because it has that nice stainless steel finished hub motor and it has a front shock absorber. Only drawback with the Pioneer model is that it only has 6 inch wheels

Great video, thanks for taking the time to do this. It seems that even if you're actually doing 17 or 18mph, the display won't show more than 15mph, is that right?

What’s a good battery replacement for this scooter? Have a lot of hills and I kill it in 23mins. Was lucky to make it near 45mins after stopping and manually go up hills. Thinking on returning it. Saw there is a Bluetooth insignia on there but no clue on making it work or to turn it on. For a while I had issues activating cruise mode, of course cruise mode be around 8-10mph.

Just install a second battery long as same amps u can easily double or triple battery life and scooter will get like quicker on acceleration might up top speed 3 or 4 mph but double time u can ride

My hover 1 pioneer just threw the e-1 code. I've got it apart and will continue trouble shooting it in the morning. Any advice on known locations for the wiring or solder to fail? Thanks

If it did work, I’d put it on a foot switch for just when I wanted the extra speed, and then reconnect it all other times. Pretty sure it might have something to do with the charging circuit so the house doesn’t burn down? I’ve measured my chargers at 125’f inside in January. Imagine if you charged it in the sun in May...

I unplugged the temp sensor wire in my car and didn't notice any difference either. I thought for sure it was a universal hack. Dang it

The white wire disconnect only works on certain controllers.........mainly ebikes

Just download a speedometer app that can estimate how fast you are moving. No need to communicate directly communicate with scooter since it goes by GPS Position and not scooter information.

@@HBV90 Wonder if there is a way to limit that from occurring such as keeping it in eco or something. M365 on the same hill doesn't seem to have an issue. Though this scooter out of the box is faster than m365 from experience. Might have to look further into it. Thanks!

I tried unplugging white wire, taping ends for precaution sake. Put my Hover 1 Frontier back together, and went for test run. "Well folks FYI, this hack is crap" I did not gain nor lose any speed. So if you just want to waste 20 mins or so, go for it. If you don't like b.s, forget this hack.

@@HBV90 Actually the white wire is a limiter, but it limits motor when motor gets hot. Keeps motor from being burnt up during long periods of Max speed.

Also the distance that you went was too short, it takes awhile for it to hit the max speed I had to go at least two blocks before it topped out at 23pmh

You went 23mph stock? Do you weigh 90 lbs or less? I'm 170 and my speed tops out about 16-17mph similar to the video. More than likely if your measurement is accurate then you were traveling down a negative incline or you really are quite light.

@@synergy021 I'm 6 ft tall and I weigh 184 lb, once I saw the speed hack I disconnected the wire on my first test run I got 20 miles per hour and on the second test run I got 23 miles per California flat terrain.

The speed limiter is to stop the battery giving juice to the motor while going downhill. Its a safety feature. If you unplug it it still gives juice going downhill making you go 20mph or more.

Next time i open the bottom im going to check the controller to see if it would take 48v. If so thats a game changer. Way more speed power
