I'm sorry for the lack of planespotting videos recently... I've been doing more flying than planespotting as of late but I certainly plan to create some more spotting videos soon.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've never really had the same attachment to the Delta Air Lines Boeing 747 as I have for the United Airlines version (recently retired), but a Boeing 747 is a Boeing 747 and I love all jumbo jets.
Got a chance to fly on this magnificent bird at least one last time and flew it from Detroit Metro Wayne County KDTW/DTW to Tokyo Narita International Airport RJAA/NRT and back thus spending almost 24 consecutive hours on the same airborne aircraft.

Awesome! Great to ride these beauties before they’re retired. I still remember the old Northwest livery on these at Gatwick and Amsterdam, such good memories!

I remember in the 1990s all the British airways 747s lined up around terminal 4, the days when British airways aircrafts still had the corner of the UK flag on their tails

@@OHAREAVIATION , I've noticed that some foreign airlines are still continuing to make new 747s, one of them KLM. But all the American airlines use the A330s and 777s for their long overseas flights, which are just as powerful and fuel efficient, but I can see how traditionalists miss the 747s and their trademark second story hump

Sad to see these go but the airplanes of the future and the new ones being made now more than make up for it in my opinion having flown on all the new long-range birds.

Jay, thank-you for taking the time to produce this video and share your trip with us. That was certainly a labor of love, and I most certainly enjoyed it! The longest commercial flight I ever made was in 2003 to Seoul and back, through Atlanta and Narita. Given the length of your video, it is difficult for me not to have some salient observations, but I will keep this as short as possible. I can see that the food still looks rather appetizing and served with prepackaged delicacies, prepared by companies I never knew existed. Personally, I’m trying to devise a way to sneak some spices, hot sauce, butter, and salad dressing on board. It was a shame that you had so much cloud cover over some very beautiful landscapes. I find it difficult to sleep much more than two hours on any flight, and I do get tired of reading. Consequently, I love to gaze out the window, even after 40 years of flying. Besides, I have yet to be on a flight that provided any movie I enjoyed watching. It fascinated me to see such a huge presence in Narita by Delta and United. In fact, I saw more passenger aircraft with their liveries than I did from any other country in the far east. Especially when I saw the United 737 parked at the gate, I could not help but imagine flying it across the Pacific (Just kidding - I finally had to find an article and read that United used to fly a leg between Narita and Inchon.). What really floored me was the Japanese ground crew waving you good-bye; absolutely amazing! I have never seen that before in my life. Thank-you again, sir. I always enjoy viewing your videos. Please, keep-em coming!

Perhaps my last time ever doing this on a 747, let alone a Delta 747... yes, indeed a labor of love. I live on airplanes and in the airports many times in my travels and the 747 has been a faithful friend to me in my travels. I can only return the favor at least this one more time. The food was pretty good for airline food, but yes,... some spice helps sometimes. I do wish for better weather but not bad for covering a 3rd of the planet without too much to slow us down. Out the window is where it's at... LOVE looking out the window and seeing a perspective that generations for centuries past would have given much to see. Yes, indeed it is pretty interesting to go abroad and STILL see U.S. carrier mid-range aircraft. Makes you do a double take sometimes. I had a acquaintance that used to fly United 737s based in Guam.... The waving goodbye was a nice touch and I waved back for sure... I ave seen this only one other place and that was Burlington, VT. You're very welcome and it's my pleasure to film these experiences for all who are interested in watching. Admittedly, I have been very busy as of late but as always new videos are just around the corner... sometimes the hallway to the corner can be a little lengthy though ;) I always appreciate folks like you. A BIG thanks for watching!

Wow, sir! What a very thoughtful reply. I found that I have to curb my enthusiasm whenever I make a comment, because I tend to unload and point out all I found enjoyable. Please do noted, that I only do comment when I have something pleasant to state. There is no sense messing things up for others. I no longer fly that often, and I have only flown on a 747 a handful of times. The one thing that has not yet been duplicated is the ability for passengers to look forward. I was on a charter flight and was seated at the very front in a window seat. Given the way the nose curved around, I was fascinated by watching us landing and taking off. So sir, next time I will let loose a little more and hopefully, you will not be looking for a sock to shove in my mouth. Thank-you again!

Funny that the in-flight map graphic uses a twin-engine icon for a 4-engine plane.

They use the same icon for all the in-flight map graphics, and twin engine planes are the most common now, 737s, 767s, 777s, A330s

That’s an incredible feat going to and from Tokyo-Narita in 24 hours. You have strong physical strength, stamina and endurance to fly on the same Delta 747 from Detroit to Tokyo and back. Today Delta fly A350s between Detroit and Tokyo-Narita. Delta is poised to go nonstop to Manila, Taipei and Singapore from the likes of Detroit, Atlanta and JFK as more A350s join the Delta fleet. JFK-Manila, Atlanta-Taipei and Atlanta-Manila will be up and running when Delta have more A350s and they fly the routes. There are no 747s flying in the Americas, only the visiting British Airways and Lufthansa 747s come to the Americas. British Airways are lagging behind as they keep their 747s while major rivals retire the Jumbo Jets for 777s, 787s and A350s.

Great comment, Syed. As I remember, British Airways is sticking with their 747-400 models and just upgrade the interiors. Lufthansa has moved to the 747-800 models. I would love to fly either airline. Skytrax rates them with 4 stars. The best any US carrier is rated is 3 stars.

It’s funny that Detroit of all places gets a route like this just because of its hub status, yet larger and overall BETTER hub cities (Philadelphia, Phoenix, Charlotte) are still lacking them.
