One of the things I find overlooked about Alice in Chains is that they were one of the only bands of this era of music that HARMONIZED. Jerry and Layne killed it here!
@BrandonHeilBHB4 жыл бұрын
Literally not true at all Practically every grunge band utilized harmonies especially Nirvana
@suhijo4 жыл бұрын
@@BrandonHeilBHB Dave and Kurt were really good harmonizing but pretty much nobody notice that. Beside they used it almost exclusively in studio. AIC on the other hand were pretty disciplined to do it all the time.
@Drew-ft7wf4 жыл бұрын
its the way they harmonized, and choice of note sung to harmonize, and how much they did that stood them apart. it was a focal point, not an afterthought, or for the sake of it. the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, something new is created, a new voice. It defo set them apart! 😜🎶👍 Nirvana did great pop harmonies, subtle sometimes. Nothing was subtle about AIC. And the contrast of Jerry's smooth voice with Laynes southern drawl gruffness at times, that created that magical tone together. Jerrys voice really lent itself well as a 2nd part harmoniser.
@stephenstuckey3 жыл бұрын
I consider them the greatest band out of that era/time...Seattle grunge scene etc. They're just different from the other bands and there's soooo many great bands from then. AIC is my favorite band anyway, generally speaking. I dont really consider them grunge. They are definitely "grungy" but I like how Jerry himself described their sound: "We're like a heavy, bluesy rock band ...."essentially. I dunno Layne is the fucking shit and Alice in fucking Chains are the shit.

The intricate harmonies of AIC are honestly what set this band apart for me from other grunge bands and even bands today. Yes, many bands harmonize. Not many use minor thirds or major 4ths the way AIC did (and the new lineup in the band caries the tradition with song writing and performing, in recent years). The tempo in the chorus, transitions, solos, everything. Their style, passion, talent and soul set them apart.

My dad passed away in January this year. He introduced me to AiC and all the other great alt bands of the late 80s-early 90s. He's the reason I picked up a guitar cause I wanted to play Rusty Cage, Rooster, Even Flow, etc. I'm right there with you man. It hurts, depression hit me hard and still going this year.

I lost my Dad when i was 8 years old. I’m 47 now, but AIC helped me through a lot of tough times. Hope you are doing well.

I remember about two years ago id buy a bottle of jack each day and id finish it by the next morning. This is the song id be playing on my guitar all night. Id be blasting this shit on the day just jamming to it. One of my favorites. Prob my favorite besides them bones or no excuses. But this one here is what just gets me feeling better every damn time. Someone around va wanna jam to some heavy shit like this? I wish more people were into what i like.

Had to hear it this morning. So glad I came across this live version. Even better than the album. What a fantastic band, stunningly underrated drummer, intense live version AND just cannot beat those vocals. And the feeling put into every millisecond of this song. Fantastic art that shines with intensity, compelling, and lasting since the day it was made far into the future.

Like I heard Laynes dad say recently. "Someone out there is putting on Alice for the first time and it will rock them just as hard as the first day they put it out . Alice in chains is truly Evergreen..."

You can see hair metal bands going extinct in the background of this song.

Respect to Van Halen for inviting Alice In Chains to play a show. No other glam metal band would do that.

This is the best live performance of a song i have ever seen, so powerful with beautiful harmonies . First time viewing this but definitely not the last.

I love this because Layne is having a seriously GOOD time,and Mike Starr just clicks right with Sean! 1st time I ever heard "We Die Young" it was like FFS This is really more than very damn good,our Drummer Gerard totally nailed that I was super super into it,after never ever hearing it before.

We Die Young was the first Alice in Chains song I ever heard, on a local college radio station (KSYM 90.1 San Antonio) in 1990, and I was immediately hooked, buying Facelift on cassette soon after. Several months later Man in the Box became a huge hit and the band went from obscure to popular overnight.
