Hey John, as a heads-up you can actually run Soul Calibur II in 480p by holding the Triangle and X buttons as the console powers on and the game boots up. It also doesn’t have to be stretched at all. There’s actually native 16:9 widescreen support in Soul Calibur II from the display options in the game’s main menu.

I know this is 2 years old and the 30$ price is now 70$ on Amazon. But I still ordered it. I’ve got a ps1/2 and 3, the original ps3, which probably needs a gazillion firmware updates, but I’m going to try it out on my Sony Bravia and see how it goes from there. Thanks for the helpful vid.

If I need a new tv, I hope I can find one that still has aspect ratio controls and component inputs. That's annoying that new tv's seem to only have HDMI and fewer options like aspect ratio

From my two ps1 that I have is really good since I don't have a ps2 or ps3. So really happy with it. For me anyway.

I've got 1 of these (a variant of it) for 10bucks. I'm living in a PAL region, and it makes it 576i just like my GameCube games on a Wii with component cables. It looks very sharp and clear. I tried soul calibur 2 with progressive scan mode and it looks awesome. Only thing is, it's "windowd" within my tv screen and little off-centred to the left, like 1 inch or so. Fortunately on some games you can adjust the screen size manually.

It's nice that POUND put out the HD Link Cable for the Playstation 1 & 2. It's a nice option for those that don't have a 60GB HDD and I believe launch 20GB HDD PS3 backwards compatible with all PS1 game alike all models but also with PS2 discs via the hardware not software. I was lucky to find a Launch 60GB HDD backwards compatible PS3 Witch I still find better then the HD Link Cable from Pound. For PS2 games it sticnks they are darker then they should be with the cable vs with out it. The stretched is a bummer but not a complete deal breaker.

The streatching isn't actually a big problem... Just put your TV on 4:3 and you fixed the problem

Hey buddy. Thx for your take on the cable. I have a question and maybe you can help me out here. Does it matter if I'm using a PAL PS2/PS1 or an NTSC version of these consoles? As a European I want to make sure that I can use it before buying.

About 1/4 of my PS1 games are US imports. And so Sony's backwards compatibility is very limited for me because of it been region locked.

uhh, what happens if you don't bother to provide power via the microUSB? I don't have it connected, but it still works. Am I missing out on something?

My concern is that it doesnt upscale, just a passthrough. Problem is that most PS2 games run in 480i and it is a really low resolution, it is not officially supported by the HDMI standard, so some TVs do work like mine but many of them will not work with 480i through HDMI like the TV of my mother. The TV can accept fine 480i in Composite and Component but not on HDMI connections

I didn't think that this worked with the slim model. someone on amazon said it didn't work so I chose not to buy one but then again could just be user error on their end.

I prefer playing on a CRT. But the cable was something I was looking at getting for streaming. As my capture card uses HDMI. I can sort out the screen size and colours in OBS. It'll make my recording easier without using my old capture card or an upscaler.

I am using a ps3 component cable for HD tv. Looks pretty good.

If there's no way to change the aspect ratio, I'm out. Though I have a tv that can hit all AR's up to 16:9 @ 1080p. Kind of shocked you don't have a TV that can switch. I think Metal Jesus has the same issue.

I am a bit disappointed that you don't mention that there are component cables available for cheaper that give you the best picture. The big reason why you buy this cable for the original Xbox is because the official Microsoft product goes used for 50 bucks or more but on the ps2 this is not the case. And it is not like component is an obscure port. Most Tvs and av receivers will still have one or there are converter boxes available. Overall those component cables are not only cheaper but also don't change the brightness or color of the picture and most importantly don't stretch it

All my lcd tv sets have composite inputs, I just use them. I guess none of the new tv sets have composite inputs.

Thanks for your awesome review! The cable is underwhelming. I'm not convinced from comparison. The images looks too muddy for what the cable is meant to be, and the fact it stretches the 4:3 to 16:9 kinda sucks.

I'd rather just stock up on CRT's while I can. To people like myself they're like gold dust and are quickly disappearing, whereas to most other people they're more like floating turds that they just want to flush away.

So is it upscaling or just stretching the image to fit a modern tv???

Yeah it was starting to bother me when you showed the HDMI with it stretched. It was giving me a headache and making my motion sickness come out. lol Yeah that is why I am glad to have my retro consoles hooked up to a Sony 61" projection TV. And of course if I really wanted to play all my PlayStation games on a modern TV with HDMI. I could fire up my true fat backwards compatible PS3. Which actually plays off the disc instead of emulate the game. Because it has a PS2 and PS3 inside the console. And it is running 5 fans including the original inside to keep it as cool as possible.

Its a shame that there is no builtin 4:3 aspect ratio switch. I mean it shouldnt come by surprise that old games have 4:3 not 16:9 ratio. Nevertheless that can be changed from tv settings provided it has that. Not a showstopper just a delay. I am getting this. Thank you for the review. I always love watching you content.

It's an overpriced cable ! Europe it goes around 50 euro wich is just 2 much for a dumb cable when all games just output in 480p. Stick with component people, it ain't like the dreamcast or xbox that actually supports 720p
