People saying this devalues the game. I disagree, the value is in the disc and artwork, not the case.

Already started jumping on these but was the first run and put a little sealant on the inner knobs to close better. Soooo glad they started producing these again, gonna really show which resellers care to go above and beyond for the prices currently asked.

I remember when my brothers and I got a Sega CD from my dad. It was pretty incredible at the time. We were a Sega household. I remember playing Eternal Champions on Sega CD for hours. Years later I’d see Sega CD consoles at used game stores and wish I still had it. Really cool they make replacement cases because those things have taken a beating throughout the years.

I wish there is an option to just buy the case covers. I think most games have a good tray. Also, the lack of the embossed "disc" just make the tray look like knock-offs.

Perfect review video for these. I was still skeptical about swapping old trays in with the new cases even after reviews from some of the other MJR members just because they didn't have much to swap. Im very grateful that you did this video since my main collection is Sega CD. I can now purchase these instead of waiting for Limited Run to finally say if they're actually going to do them. Oh yea. I definitely remember when I was younger and was into PS1 gaming. I bought all of my games 100% brand new back then, but every now and then I bought games used on like eBay and they came cracked and whatnot. It's fine for the single disc games on PS1 sinc eyou can take any standard size CD case and swap out the contents. What's bad is the multi-disc cases which is not really a 'standard' case and more difficult to replace. I don't collect "retro" games anymore and as of now, I only have the PS4. I've sold off my PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games and systems. I still have a few PS3 games on my eBay and I still have Vita and stuff on eBay as well. I just felt it wasn't something that I could afford to keep doing, they take up space, I don't have much free time as is, and I'm happy with the PS4. Heck, I have a massive PS4 backlog as is. I currently intend to keep the PS4 and then move on to PS5 later. I think another reason is because as much as I do enjoy nostalgia, I think that honestly I'd be playing newer games on modern TVs. Going back on topic, this is a great product. It's definitely a huge plus to buy replacement cases; especially for long box and multi-disc cases. Also, I'm sure you'll reach 80,000 subscribers soon! "Warning about this Product" I bought 2 orders of the first run in the past. Both times multiple cases were broken and the company does nothing about it. Read the reviews on Amazon a lot of people complaining about this!

I bought a box of the second run and while they fit perfectly for 99% of games I did not have luck with most of my Working Designs games. The back art is just fractionally thicker and doesn't just slide in like the rest. They'll fit with some patience but I noticed additional spine bowing because of how tight they are. I couldn't live with that and swapped back to the scuffed originals. Hopefully there's a third run that accounts for this because they worked great for everything else I tried.

VGC should offer a trade in program. you know there will be lots of older more weathered cases that could be melted down and repurposed into these injection molds to make new ones again. Would be nice to send them to VGC and get like... a free case or two for every 10 you send in. there are also some tray inserts that were not the standard ones. some Acclaim games come to mind in that their tray insert it totally different.

Interesting product. Definitely will look into that for my more expensive games that are in need of an upgrade. I do like how you can use the original CD holders as I prefer the original center sprockets as there are variations.

Collectors can be a particularly persnickety lot. Do you think it's possible, especially in the long term, that there could be some blow back in certain collector circles over replacement cases being 'inauthentic'? Just curious about your perspective.

These look great! Sounds like a new shipment should be coming in during September 2020, so I'm planning to pick them up then. Question for @John Hancock or others who use these. Do you throw away your old, cracked cases? What are your thoughts about losing authenticity by using these?

Now we have these cases the PS1,Sega CD and Sega Saturn long box games will go up in price, because resellers will think they can get more now.

Although it is just a case, I wish there was some distinguishing mark to let you know it isn’t authentic. Even if it was just In the inside so it wouldn’t detract on the shelf. You can look at it in the same light as repro games not having identifying marks and trying to pass them off as originals.

John, how do you think these cases will affect collector value, in terms of keeping everything original? to me, if all the artwork is original, there is no difference, but would certain collectors prefer the broken case because it is original? should you disclose that the case is repro when selling? or is this just kind of a restoration rather than a repro?

John, Sega CD and Saturn cases were notorious for discs coming loose. How are the new black inserts at keeping the discs in place?

Probably scratches are easy to polish away if case is in good condition otherwise.

Man I never knew how bad the elitism was for retro collecting, but looking at the comments I'm starting to see. These are great products for collector's to protect their "investments" of gaming history and all I see is "but yeah their value is decreased because this dirty, yellow, original cracked case Panzer Dragoon Saga was in is gone." The assumption of selling and the fact they would leave his collection or any collector's absurd, but I guess if people are too diehard for that "authentic" vintage look sure let your games get disc rot faster then from being "authentic."

For those asking, 3DO cases are significantly different, and these would not work at all as replacements in size or function. I sure wish someone would do these for European CD-i cases and PAL Dreamcast as others have mentioned. Those just have no counterpart, and the hinges on those CD-i cases are just crap.

The PAL Sega Saturn cases are also problematic, the cardboard always gets ripped/dented with imprinted marks, alas the covers and back are glued together and so can not be replaced.

i researched this quite a while back and if memory serves the guy that started limited run games was in process of making these, even trying to get the original molds from sony, although a different company made them, sony owned the company i think, but they said no. he was trying to get them perfect and wanted to avoid chinese mold builders due to the counterfeit risk there, when another guy did exactly that and produced these. not sure where the other ones stand today. sure hope some better ones come out.

I feel like for $6 each they should include some foam so the manuals don't get warped over time.

I only own two longbox ps1 games and they’re the cardboard ones. SF Alpha and Darkstalkers, and they both are different longbox styles. It’s maddening lol

i picked up the first run for $30 and thought they were great. sucks the jumped to 60 just so the cases close a little tighter.

This is old news. I'm being lazy and flipped through the video. Did you get the first release issues or did they start making the 2nd version? One of the 2 places that are making them did a first one and was/is selling them dirt cheap until they sell out and they can get the 2nd (improved batch.) done. Also I'm to lazy to post a link of a game of love article that talks about the whole story of the two individuals who decided to make replacement cases.

With that new case you be able to sell that game a lot more expensive and with the old scratched up scuff mark one....

Would you go ahead and swap out all your acrylic shell and keep the compact disc retainer? I like the compact disc logo over the majesco like generic look. Do you feel taking the old original acrylic out of the equation it will change values. Will there be a resurgance of ideals and people will want that old patina look?

Very nice cases, But I don't need 10 of them I only need 2 or 3. I wish they would sell them in 2 packs. $15 for a 2-pack and I think they would sell a lot of them.

Amazon is showing VGC online product no longer available :( Hear anything on if they no longer offer these moving forward, or just currently out of stock? I hate buying an unwanted game just so I can get the case, and then having to resell the unwanted game, stipulating the damaged case I swapped, for a penny. It can significantly bump up the overall price I paid for the Saturn game that I did want. My only concern is that I have 8 NA long case Saturn games (plus 3 JA and 1 EU using different cases), and I'm not looking to buy another, so I wouldn't need a big box of cases. EDIT: Do they make tray replacements for multi-disc Saturn games, like _Command & Conquer_ ? By the way, I have _C&C_ for the Saturn because while I had the 5 disc _C&C WWW_ for PC, I had given it away years ago when I could no longer slow the game down enough for it to be playable, unaware at the time that solutions to play old software on new hardware was being developed. RTS games like _C&C_ don't play well without a mouse.

If they ever come down in price, I'll consider. But that's at least $20 too high

Y'all are crazy complaining that they arent original. They were using generic cases when the games were first produced and packaged. I bet none of you would notice if I sold you my panzer dragoon in a sega cd case.

They need regular CD cases with custom art inserts because those cases are to big. Yes it's not the og look and all but CD cases are smaller and store so much better than the long box. In my opinion, PS1 had it right the first time. All games should took that as the standard. Not the DVD case.
