The fact they had machined gearing, production lines, hydraulic presses, pipes and valves etc is amazing. Recording video and making films etc though sound was added later unless it was just a silent film. Amazing all this stuff has been around so long. But yes this is sad looking back. There were suspicions in the 1890s. But too much money was being made

Serpentinite rock, which very often contains chrysotile veins, is still commonly made into jewelry in the US. You can just order pieces online. It's supposed to be safe, but I wonder how much exposure the people who cut and polish the stones get to asbestos fibers.
