There is a special piece of track near Harderwijk: it is an arc with the largest cant in the Netherlands. If you travel further with me to Groningen you will see that the storks are nesting extensively again. And you see a number of new measures from Prorail to ensure that no new nests are created. 523 kWh for the whole trip? Really makes you think how inefficient electric cars are compared to an electric train. For this trip this whole train consumed the same energy as...lets say 10 cars? Amazing

To be fair, electric cars need the battery in the car itself, and batteries are very heavy. Trains have their overhead lines for this

@@Phosphorite05 the main problem for cars (in general, not just electric ones) is that the rolling friction of rubber tyres on road is orders of magnitude higher than that of steel on steel rails which a train uses.

It's still VERY jarring when it hits the glass whether it is a train running down the bird or the bird trying to fly through a high-rise's windows. When you are very close to the glass it's too late to duck and the adrenaline surge is very real. Vincent maintained his "cool". Congratulations are in order. {o.o}

very interesting to see how well the trains drive on such a cant. I thought the cant between Amersfoort & Hoevelaken (right before Hoevelaken) was already quite sharp. and what a coincidence, I happened to be in the ICM to Den Haag Centraal that passed by around 3:08 that day (because I explicitly remember missing that RRReis Sprinter you saw at the beginning at Amersfoort 😅)! what a small world we live in!

@@CabviewHolland Heh - it is all math, trigonometry and algebra mostly. One effect of the design keeps the apparent direction of "down" directly below the tilted passengers. If I go deeper into the weeds the rail heads and wheels are not quite perfectly horizontal on a straight run. They are at a slight angle designed to keep as much surface on the rail as possible for a large ball rolling on the track. That way the wheels will track the rails without the flanges rubbing the side of the rails very much or very often. Due to centripetal force the cant has to be larger the faster the train is moving and the sharper the turn. A fairly slow train on a very sharp turn still needs a lot of cant. Note the lack of cant in the maze of track going into and out of stations. When the trains take those curves the train may be pushed to the outside of the turns enough for the flanges to rub giving the symphony of squeals often heard in such places. Long ago somebody got really creative about keeping vehicles that use rails on the track with minimum wear and tear on track or wheels. That was one of the major enabling inventions for railroads. {^_-}

Here in the part of California in which I live really fast might be 40 MPH, about 60 kph. We have too many grade crossings and stops to really work up some good speed on the tracks a bit south of me. {^_-}

@@mmsmits2868 Out here we are building a "high speed" railroad from nowhere to no place over earthquake faults. It is a total waste of money, which is typical of the political party that holds a complete stranglehold control over our state government. The fascinating thing about the tracks to my nearby South is that during commute time I bet you can get from San Bernardino to Los Angeles faster on the walker than by car. (I call it walker because it surely isn't a sprinter. {^_-}) I've noticed that Metrolink/BNSF seems to be electrifying stretches of the track. I wonder if they can stay ahead of the copper thieves. The proportions look funny after so many EU (particularly NL) videos. EU is about 15 meters up for the wire. Here it's more like 20 meters. Isn't there a short segment of Biden's ride from DC to Maryland that really is "high speed"? And then there is the FLA high speed - for segments of the trip. {^_-}

Fijne en interessante rit meerijden op de 'bok' van de DDZ. Ook de beschrijving van de steilste bocht bij Harderewijk is leuk om dit eens te weten. In Zwolle 'uitgestapt'. volgende keer verder naar Groningen.

Mooie rit. Ik moest een keer vanaf Putten naar Den Helder (huis). Ik had toen een tijdwinst van 30 min. Dankzij dat ik een keer extra overstapte in Amersfoort Centraal. Ondanks dat ik een (zware) E-bike mee had, verliep de reis zonder problemen. Ik ben verbaasd dat dit mogelijk is om met vaker overstappen sneller te zijn dan met minder vaak overstappen.

With the time difference, you are posting this after lunch there and I just happen to be up and see this. I still have about 2 hours to go to an early breakfast here. For those on the other system, the curve is 5,9 inches higher on the up side. I'm gonna drink a coffee and maybe watch some more of the train video. Coffee and high speed, banked turns pretty much has made returning to bed not an option. Nice video, Señior Cabview.. RT sends/envia, Pueba, México.

Had een keer een machinist die van amersfoort tot ermelo 110 ging en vlak voor harderwijk 130 ging rijden en de bocht in reedt met 123km/h (volgens de NS app. Treinposities vermelde ook geen afremming in hun 2 uur grafiek). Fijn dat de ATB bestaat om de machinist te 'waarschuwen' zeker bij bochten waar je tussen de 90 en de 120 rijdt

@@CabviewHolland ja is toch iets makkelijker... ik wist zelf ook niet meer hoe mijn profielnaam eruit ziet als je het leest. Vandaar mijn naam thalys4532. Ik had nog eventjes gevraagd waar die rook vandaan kwam, dan weet je dat ook. Het was dat de biobak die lost soms z'n vuilwatertank. Wat gelukkig alleen water is. Maar het water is dan 85 graden en met het temperatuurverschil. Verdampte het gelijk. Dus dat was het, wat er aan de hand was. Hoe was je ritje verlopen naar drd... geen gezeik gehad toch met het splitsen. Volgende week 1 2 en 3 mei. ICNG opleiding!!!!

Mooie vid. Ben je bekend met de Pendelino intercitytreinen die gemeengoed zijn in o.a. Italie en vooral Engeland? Deze klasse treinen kunnen op oude bochtige Europese trajecten een snelheid halen van 160 tot 200 km/h halen zonder dat een er een nieuw trace hoeft te worden aangelegd (kostenaspect) Het concept van de Pendelino - naam komt van zo'n oude klok die heen en weer beweegt - en daarmee de vliedende middenpunt krachten opheft waardoor het voor de reiziger comfortabel reizen is ondanks het nemen van bochten waar normaal 100km voor staan nu met 160km kunnen worden genomen. Dit systeem wordt gerealiseerd voor een hydraulisch systeem op de draaistellen. De grootste sta-in-de-weg voor iets als de Pendelino is het verouderde ATB systeem waar nu de Vmax nog 140km en de relatieve onbekendheid bij de NS van dit systeem..

Is er reden om de treinsnelheid op de traditionele lijnen in Nederland te beperken tot 140 km/uur? Door het profiel van de lijnen konden treinen sneller rijden, met lange rechte lijnen en weinig scherpe bochten.

The Netherlands is basically a big swamp and the ground mostly doesn't provide a good enough foundation for higher speeds. There are currently 40 kph restrictions between Utrecht and Den Bosch because of poor track foundations. The HSL Zuid was built as one big slab of concrete to allow for 300 kph speeds, which wouldn't be necessary in most other countries (as can be seen in France).

Heeft te maken met het seinstelsen en bijbehorende treinbeveiligingssysteem. Er is bepaald dat harder dan 140 te weinig tijd wordt om te reageren en anticiperen op seinen. Onder ERTMS wordt wel harder gereden, maar het uitrollen daarvan kost tijd
