TCL showcased a 163-inch Micro LED TV that's capable of 10000 nits HDR at the company's Global Partners Conference (GPC) 2024 in China. The model number is X11H Max.
Due to frame rate mismatch between the screen and our camera, some flicker and horizontal scanlines were visible in this footage, which wasn't present in real life.

oh no no no. You have to think about Pixel Density if you're going to be reading text on this thing. It needs to be at least 16K resolution at that screen size. You'd have 108 PPI which is about the same PPI as a 42" 4K Monitor.

@@toddpeterson5904 Dolby Vision is mostly just tone mapping (diming) for when the content goes brighter than your TV capabilities. When your TV is capable of 10 000nits, it can display the content untouched without the need of any tone mapping so the DV metadata are useless in that case.

Sony was prescient on going full LED. They'll get a micro LED top-end TV in the magic 65-85" sizes and sell millions of them. MiniLED will carry the mid- and low-range price brackets. TCL's TV here is the death of OLED. As microLEDs get cheaper and easier to make, you'll start seeing them in cell phones and other places.

@@toddpeterson5904 using a colour space technically and actually having colours from it are two different things. rec2020 exceeds P3 mainly in neon-greens, which is just not very common in most content. also rec2020 is about colour gamut, not volume, so it is independent of the brightness a display can reach and you can have a 100nit SDR master using all of rec2020 and a 10 000 nits master using none of it.

I'll be interested when they chop this up into quarters, and have 4 x 81.5" panels, requiring a quarter of the power to run. Built-in speakers don't matter on high-end TVs as everyone should be using a soundbar or surround receiver. Built-in multi-point Bluetooth audio with support for all codecs and a good DAC chip would be nice though (broadcast audio to 2+ BT headphones/earphones).
