Holy crap Ian! What an absolute badass interviewer you are!! All of the questions you asked were perfect, and the answers were even better! If everything he said is accurate, and can deliver on his promise, regarding specs (I have no reason to believe he wouldn't..) Than this set of goggles is going to blow away any current analog goggle on the market, and even put DJI on notice. What a gift to our hobby. This interview made me think differently about HDZero. I wasn't aware that he had been inventing these chipsets since the early 2000's. What I'm seeing HDZero do today makes me fully consider moving over from DJI, but to see it get better with lower latency blows my mind. This is fixing to be a David and Goliath moment that rivals all others.. Thank you Ian and Carl!

Thanks Mike I really appreciate the kind words. Tbh I was not fully on my game as I had not really prepared enough but we got some gold. I tried to let Carl just talk and me poke in here and there and for the most part we got it perfect. I just need to up my game on the questions lol.

1080p HDzero? DJI needs to massively step up their game here. Also, this system is going to be useful for SO many things that are not fpv. I really hope that they, and especially Mr. Zhou, succeed

1080p means very little in fpv for most people especially flying freestyle, penetration isn't nearly enough like DJI has even on the 1w vtx. It's a step up yes but doesn't mean it will be better than dji.

@@FailsafeFPV It will be better in many cases, but of course not every single one. I'm sure racers will appreciate more resolution. Also, not everyone flies freestyle in places where penetration matters that much. It's also so much better than DJI when it comes to latency. I have both, analog and dji basher quads and I've seen a lot of hdzero. For me, it's dji all day every day. But with 1080p I think hdzero would have a nice advantage in one more area - of course only if the quality really is better.

We're so lucky to have a guy of Carl's passion and humility working for the FPV community. We're pretty niche, and this is just a hobby but he's risking his own money to make these products. I for one and glad I haven't spent any money on DJI so far but have bought 2 HDZero systems so far and am looking forward to buying more HDZero gear in the future. Thanks so much Carl. ❤️

The man is extremely impressive. I am happy to have bought into his ecosystem and am delighted with the quality, and even more delighted to see the passion and drive of the engineer behind it. Looking forward to buying an HDzero enabled display or security camera system at some point in the future, and maybe a skyzone hdzero google in the nearer future

Ian I just loved how you described FPV as the F1 of "EVERYTHING " it really describes the hobby in a few words. Battery, Power, Control, Lattency, Video Clarity, Signal penetration... Awesome interview so many nuggets of gold between you and Carl it's like poetry to my ears.

I cannot wait for the HDzero goggle. The Orqa is a close second with updates to scale a 16:9 image to 4:3 but hate the external module. The new 533 Orqa is is great looking goggle but I am holding out on what HDzero has to offer.

Hey Ian, I finally had a chance to watch this full interview... freaking Carl man, what a guy! Arguably the single most important person to enter our hobby in years and he's not even an FPV pilot! It's really exciting to hear what he's working on for the future of the system, and it's simply unbelievable how far HDZero has come this year. Thanks for the interview! I always love to hear where we are heading and the future for HDZero is looking better than ever before. We now have solid cameras and VTXs (with way more on the way) and even a new google is on the horizon. I was thinking about upgrading from my basic box goggles but wasn't sure if a high end anlalog one would still be a good investment, now I know what I was waiting for, I surely hope it turns out great. And that Karl is already working on the next generation, even if it's still a long way to out, gives me hope that HDZero could someday even surpass DJI.

Awesome interview! I'm excited to see not only the new goggle, but also the V2 chip. I think with those two things, hd zero will have it's place in fpv solidified forever. A system that uses the dji chip will always have letency issues. Super excited for 90 fps, people don't even know how much that matters when the screens get closer to the eyes.

Great interview! Wow! Listening to Carl, hearing how passionate he is about FPV and how resolute when faced with problems I tip my hat for him with utmost respect! HDZero in 2-3 years is going to absolutely dominate FPV - forget FatShark with their flimsy, underdeveloped digital system, forget even DJI with their self-satisfaction and lack of progress... By listening to the community and constantly improving his products Carl is on the pathway to success - good luck!

Amazing inteview in a very interesting field. I am not a drone guy although I just got my son a Tello and am starting to learn, but I am interested in digital wireless video transmission so this was very cool to hear. I think I have a little board with that Toshiba chip Carl mentioned on my Raspberry PI here in front of me.

Just watched this and it was fantastic. Thank you very much for this excellent interview. Liked! I learned that Carl designed the driver chip that is used in Sky04X and HDO2 goggles. Fascinating nugget there. Carl was making stuff for FPV before Carl even knew he was making stuff for FPV 🙂 Did he say 40nm or 14nm process node? If it's 14nm then that is a fairly modern process I could imagine moving to TSMC 7nm would shrink the size of the chips dramatically and reduce their power requirements significantly. I would love to hear Carl's thoughts on going from 14nm to 7nm on next generation HDZ.

Clarification when Carl says "WiFi PHY" he's talking about the WiFi physical layer (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_layer) of the WiFi adapter which OpenHD is forced to use.

v2 is years down the line. Potentially yes to get 1080p but that’s not happing anytime soon. Carl is looking at the future of the system and that 1-3 year plan.

What ESC? It's most likely going to be cheaper just to buy a new one :)
