Gerrard was immense. He carried Liverpool, a match winner and could play in almost any position. He scored worldies, decent header, tackle, free kick specialist, great pen taker, strength, power and speed - he had the lot! By far and away the most versatile midfielder in English football. One of the all time greats!

Don’t forget he was shifted out of position because BETTER midfielders like Xabi Alonso and Mascherano were at the club and they went on to win it all.. “All time great”.. Name another “all time great” who won almost nothing.. Gerrard ain’t some special dude, the best players win things..

@@Primitive01he won every major trophy but the prem at club level, while scoring in every major final, the only British player in history to do so last time I looked. He has an fa cup final officially named after him….. one of only two players in over 125 years off fa cup history to do so 🤷‍♂️

This is why I always go with Gerrard. The guy was world class in 3 or 4 different positions/roles. Could play as a #6, #8, #10 in the centre, and right midfield/wing, and even as a right back/wingback!

For a period of two or three years, the most complete and exciting midfielder in the world was Gerrard. Even more so when he typically always delivers in big, big matches, and in such dramatic circumstances like Istanbul 2005, FA Cup 2006. Football was opera when Gerrard was on the field.

Chelsea fan since 96, Steven Gerrard wins this one easily for me. If players swapped clubs during their playing time then Liverpool would have been a lot worse off. Gerrard took so many games by the scruff of the neck and you could argue he's defensive game is better and he was a stronger captain. Both could pass, finish, create and take set peices. Lamaprd arguably had the better technique, but Gerrard's overall game was stronger and he influenced games where Liverpool had no right winning.

I’ve been an Everton fan for 30 years I’ve watched all these 3 careers from start to finish an in my opinion gerrard was the best midfielder I’ve ever seen hurts to say it but he was the best of the best and I hate him for it the other two are world class but gerrard was the pinnacle

Yeah. 2007-09-ish he was the best in the world, until Messi and Ronaldo took things to a new never-before-seen level. Lampard and Scholes were sensational players too, no doubt about it. Impossible not to appreciate them, regardless of what team you support.

If you really watch football it's not a debate Scholes was levels above anything in England he actually controlled the game . Gerrard good player but all blood and energy didn't have the discipline or football iq of Scholes. That's why Scholes is more appreciated by world football not British passport . I watched both players and honestly Scholes is underrated

Gerrard all day long no contest. Those of us that were there to witness, you can sing until the cows come home about Scholes or Lampard depending on which colour you wear and that music just fades into the background when Gerrard is brought into the conversation. The best midfielder I have ever seen, no one comes close.

Gerrard all day long had everything over 100 prem goals playing in the positions he played in scored all types of goals pace never stopped running won numerous trophies single handed in some average Liverpool teams Scholes and Lampard played in some great teams sorry no debate on this he would be first name on everybody’s team sheet both Ferguson and Jose wanted him as well

His goals and assists and all sorts of numbers would have been insane if he had played for one of the giants at the time. Man Utd, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern... This is why I always say that people easily get blinded by players who play for the giants, where their working conditions are perfect, as opposed to those who walk the path of more resistance. Liverpool, at the time, was a sleeping giant, and he often carried them. Tough luck for him. His entire career played in the void between the 80s and Klopp. Periodically an "almost-team", largely due to him, but usually missing that little bit extra.

Lampard and Scholes were fantastic players but they were always in great teams. If you put either of them in the Liverpool team then they wouldn't have won much at all.

He didn’t play cm though did he lol. He played second striker, what’s commonly known as the 10 role today. He played behind drogba…. Gerrard played a similar role behind Torres for a couple of seasons and has similar numbers in that role, scholes played behind sheringham and has similar numbers. He also played international football in the same position yet never even scored a goal for England at any major international tournament 😂

Liverpool in 2005 was a joke of a top club, but gerrard drove them to champions league, off course with a little help by there fans, who were buzzing that year. Liverpool in 2005 were just a rubbish team, but gerrard drove them to that champions league, and just never let them give up. With such players and right fans, you should win Scholes, was not like that, neither was lampard Gerrard was englands version of lothar matthaus, but for england, gerrard did not have the right fans. Gerrard like roy keane could of played for any team in europe. Roy keane did same for man utd, but off course roy had far better team of players to play with at man utd. Roy keane drove man utd to champions league in 1999, and gerrard did it for liverpool in 2005. If you have those players you should win, and if you do not, you do not have right players around them, or right fans. Its why in one moment roy keane rubbished man utd fans Gerrard never had to rubbish liverpool fans, gerrard just did not have the right players around him, like roy keane did.

People give Gerrard high praise by saying Scholes and Lampard played in great teams so they couldn't have been as good as Gerrard. So should the qualities of all the great midfielders I mentioned be diminished aswell since they also played in great teams

So I simply stated Gerrard is greater and a follow up fact. Here I'll give you an example as to why your comments flawed..replace Gerrard in the Liverpool team with either scholes or lamps and that Liverpool team doesn't achieve as much..hence why comments about Gerrard in not so great teams exist.

Here, I'll make it easier for you.. Gerrard could do what scholes and lamps could but not so true vice versa. Gerrard could play different positions whether in defence or attack but the other two couldn't. You seem like someone who would deny the existence of oceans even if they were slapped in the face with tuna. Be interesting where you steer this dialogue now however 😂😂

Lampard was the least special of the 3, even though his stats were somehow the most special, and credit to him. But Scholes was a genius, and Gerrard was beast of a player, and the one that stood out the most to me, as a United fan who used to play CM in school.

It's a difficult 3 to choose from. And Lampard ends up as the least special, despite the irony of him having the most special stats. Clearly all 3 were great, but testimony from their peers and rivals also has Lampard as the least amazing of the 3 from his praise.

A large majority of players who played against them all picked gerrard. He is in the team of the year a record number of times and thats picked by the players!!!!! Nothing to do with him being scouse
