This song was written based on true events in her life. Written about her ex, Dave Coulier from Full House. If you really want to hear a depressingly haunting track, there is a hidden track that plays after the You Oughta Know (Alternate Version), at the end of the album. You can feel that she was truly, and fundamentally crushed by what he did. You don't have to react to it, but definitely check it out to get a very real look at her state of mind after their break up. 💔

When she did that tho.. she was echoing what was in the collective females heart. That’s why so many women became such big fans of Alanis. Being *real* unites us as a species. Anyway, lesson being: Older men do younger females dirty. It’s now historical information that needs to be passed on to younger people so they don’t repeat the same mistakes.

Never really listened too Alanis when she came out. Her first stuff was Paula Abdul type dance pop crap. Then this came out and still never paid much attention. Heard a few tunes on the radio but thats it. About 10 years after this came out a really gave her a listen. Chick is the real deal. She had a couple classic albums in the 90s. Paved the way for a lot of female performers. I am from her home town of Ottawa Ontario and have had a chance too bump in to her a couple times. She is a cool humble lady who showed nothing but respect in our interaction. Probably chatted for 15 minutes total but felt right at home. Was a pleasure meeting her. Cant say that about most musicians i have encountered.

She has a song called "Ironic" where the lyrics list several coincidental events and no examples of irony. And she says "Isn't it ironic, don't you think?" and everyone yells at the radio, "No!, that is coincidence, not irony!" It was kind of a thing when the song came out.

The 1st song I ever heard where a female expressed THIS level of rage. Cathartic in that respect for me. The flip side like Brad said, is you have to love someone that much to be hurt that much. I’ve heard this song probably thousands of times, and it always makes me tear up if not full on cry. To those who’ve never experienced this level of betrayal and Tom F?$kery , consider yourselves blessed.

Did I not scream this song with Alannis at the top of my lungs over and over driving with the windows down! Five year relationship, he met someone for weeks later got married and didn’t tell me! Got letters as we were still together? Alanis just said what so many people think in their head! She is so beautiful and has the most amazing voice. Whole album is genius. You have to listen to more and this song you must watch the video to appreciate her more! And he just didn’t wanna hear it because guys don’t necessarily want to take responsibility when hearing how much power their words and actions really do have. Listen to ironic video please please. Broadway play made off of this album called “jagged“ using all her music! Still playing today. Thank you so much for checking her out. She rock so hard and flea on the guitars wow!❤️❤️✌️✌️

Here I go again . Brad reveals himself in the words he says about this song as well. When describing the depth of grief she is feeling he says “ I hate to see it “ more than once. He’s an honourable man. He acknowledges feelings change and sometimes it’s one sided. Sometimes it’s not fair and unresolved emotions often result in retaliation. Hurt people hurt people. Big thumbs up to Brad.

This song is about the actor Dave Coulier, whom Morissette dated for a time… Coulier played Joey on the TV show Full House. He was in his early 30’s and she was in her mid to late teens at the time so, yeah she was devastated when they broke up.

So, Alanis is one of those unique artists from the 90's that I think most people appreciate despite what genre they generally listen to. She sorta reminds me of Eminem in that she shows who she really is with intensity. She also doesn't shy away from swear words, which isn't usual for her sorta poppy sound. It would be cool to hear a collab with her and Eminem... lol it would be one deep and intense song. DEFINITELY review more of her music!

Just thought that you should know that Alanis has sold over 75 million albums and received four Grammy awards for the album and song you just reacted to. Jagged Little Pill is one of the most successful albums of the 1990s. In the US, debuted at No. 117 on the and peaked at No. 1 in October 1995, almost four months after it was released, remaining in that position for twelve weeks in total. It was the first album to reach both 12 million (in February 1997) and 13 million (in August 1998) in sales in the US since 1991, when Nielson Soundscan started tracking music sales. It was certified 16× Platinum for shipments of 16 million copies. Morissette held the record by the youngest artist to be certified diamond in the US, until she was beaten by Britney Spears with her debut album . On the week ending June 21, 2015, the album sold 5,000, bringing the sales to just over 15 million, making the album one of only three albums to have sold at least 15 million copies in the United States since Nielsen Music began tracking data in 199and a further 350,000 units through BMG Music Club. The album also peaked at No. 1 on the Canadian Album Chart, selling over two million copies, being certified 2× Diamond.
