His inner ear piece wasn’t working. He points at it then sings it by muscle memory. His dream was to play Kazakhstan song for the world to sing. His dears sing this with him at all his concerts . Thank you for promoting Dimash. We’re on a Twitter binge to Tweet him on the Billboard charts. It’s working so far and hopefully the world will find Dimash 👑 vocal king

Greetings from Germany and thank you for the reaction to this beautiful love song, sung by the unique Dimash. I'm so glad that KZfaq exists, so that people like me can experience this unique voice. Unfortunately, I've never been in my life at all in a concert. I was unfortunately born with a serious illness and now at the age of 65 I live in a nursing home in Germany To be able to see Dimash live. But I'm grateful that there are social networks where you can at least do it with a laptop. His performances are one of a kind. I've been a huge fan from the first note Dimash sang and I have to join cry every one of his songs because he sings so beautifully and you can feel the passion he has for it.Dimash has a magic on me that I can't explain. I think I need a psychiatrist because I'm addicted to Dimash's songs.I love it when an artist brings cultural elements from their home country into their stage shows. You can see and feel how proud Dimash is of his homeland. This song is based on a poem by famed poet and patriot Magzhan Zhumabayev. Dimash plays dombra, the traditional Kazakh instrument, while singing Daididau. Magzhan Zhumabayev (Мағжан Бекенұлы Жұмабаев; 25 June 1893 - 19 March 1938) was writing about freedom and modernization. In 1912 his Kazakh poetry collected with the "Şolpan" name was published and quickly became popular among Kazakh intellectuals. In 1917 he has been taking part in the creation of Kazakh "Alaş" party and Alaş Orda Kazakh national government at both All-Kazakh congresses as delegate of Akmolinsk Oblast. He was accused of being Pan-Turkist member of Alaş Orda and Japanese spy, and was arrested in Petropavl and got convicted for 10 years. In 1934 Maksim Gorky and Peshkova received the letter from him and due to their intercession Magzhan Zhumabayev was emancipated before the appointed time. However, just half a year later he was arrested in Almaty again and executed by shooting of NKVD on 19 March 1938. During his time in prison, he was mistakenly informed that his wife left him. The song Daididau is a response to this information: "Are you determined to leave me? To whom shall I divulge my sorrow?"

He sang this whole song without his in-ear monitors, which stopped working early in the song. Always a pro, he didn't miss a beat. This song is always an emotional one for him. When he performed it in NYC, he fought back tears at the end. Not only was it his longtime dream to sing a traditional Kazakh song to an international/American/Western audience, he was incredibly moved that the audience had learned all the lyrics, so they could sing it with him.

The string instrument is traditional for Kazachstan, the dombra. The lyrics are a Kazakh poem. The poet was imprisoned under Stalin regime and was told his wife had been unfaithful to him, which was a lie. This is his answering letter to her. The woman was called Daididau. It was Dimash's childhood dream to perform it on an American stage. In 2019 that dream came true. Dimash was so emotional when the audience chimed in.

Daididau was arranged by Dimash and his fathers friend when he was 15. The most remarkable thing about this performance was that both his ear monitors had failed which is why he was gesturing at the beginning of the song, with the amount of noise bouncing back from the stadium he could probably hardly hear himself let alone the music. He probably had to rely on muscle memory a great deal. He plays 7 instruments including the Dombhra he played here, he also plays piano and drums etc. The costume he is wearing is the traditional costume of a Kazakh prince. He was extremely emotional as bringing Kazakh music to the world was his dream and he was finally seeing that dream come true. It was almost as good as seeing his reaction after singing this song at the New York concert. It would be great if you could do a reaction to Passione from New Wave. That's a stunning piece of pure art.

@AARON and DAVID yeah, if you watch right as he starts singing he pulled it out, looked to the side of the stage and gesticulated towards his dangling ear monitor. I often wonder if part of his emotional reaction at the end was just sheer bloody relief that he'd done it as Daididau means so much to him. Absolute professionalism from one who was so young at the time.

Dimash explodes on stage, gives it all up. The attire is one of the traditional costumes of Kazakhstan. Daididau, an iconic song, is based on a letter that a Kazakh poet wrote to his wife (at that time he was incarcerated as a political prisoner by the Soviet system) because he had been told that his wife was going to leave him. In concerts Dears all over the world sing along with Dimash and he always thanks his audience on his knees. It is very emotional, thousands of us have learned this song phonetically and thousands have learned Kazakh to sing at their concerts. Kind regards from Spain.

In many eastern countries, some music instruments treated respectfully. As you see, prince Dimash hands over his Dambora with both hands respectfully and that lady take it with two hands and showing respect. In my country, Iran, we have a similar instrument called Tanbour (with 3 strings) that many players don't touch it without having an ablution. Many of them kiss that after ending their job and put their forehead on that.

The dombra (dome-bra), also known as dombyra (dome-bera) is a two-stringed long-necked Kazakh and Bashkir lute and a musical string instrument. The dombyra shares certain characteristics with the komuz and dutar, such as its long, thin neck and oblong body shape. Dimash plays seven instruments: piano, drums, guitar, keyboard, dombra (the most popular Kazakh instrument, like a lute), marimba (like a xylophone), and bayan (which is like an accordion). Dimash's first solo concert in Kazakhstan. Something he has said was a dream come true for him. Adai is the first song on the Dombra. The second song is Daididau. Daididau: From Obscure Poem to Worldwide Hit (and unofficial anthem of Kazakhstan) Excerpted from a history written by Elisabeth Khan. A Silenced Poet Magzhan Zhumabayev was a poet who was very much in love with his wife. Her name was Zuleikha Kurmanbaykizi, and his nickname for her was “Daididau.” Distant cousins and teenage sweethearts, they had been married off to other people by their parents, as was customary in their day. Only after they both became widowed at a young age were they able to build a life together. This young poet dearly loved his homeland. At the time of his birth in 1893, Kazakhstan was being ruled by the Russian Czar, following the 19th-century expansion of the Russian empire. The Kazakh people, however, aspired to self-governance. Five years later, in the wake of the 1917 Russian Revolution, we find our poet joining the newly founded Kazakh nationalist party, Alash Orda. Zhumabayev’s patriotic activism got him into trouble with the repressive Stalinist regime. He, and his brothers, were harassed and arrested. Falsely accused of treason, he was imprisoned and sent to Karelia, a distant region straddling the border with Finland. Magzhan’s jailers told him that his wife had given up on him and was living with someone else. Not knowing what to believe, Magzhan wrote a poignant poem in the form of a letter in which he declares, “Oh Daididau, your face is as beautiful as the moon on the fourteenth day” and wonders, “Did you really choose to leave me? We had promised to never part…” Magzhan was eventually executed in 1938 never knowing that his beloved wife was still in love with him and spent all those years fighting for his freedom. Daididau was not a traditional folk song, but the work of a celebrated poet who had once been purposely forgotten.

If you haven't seen Dimash playing instruments before then you haven't yet reacted to his piano playing version of "Adagio," on the 2017 Chinese show, The Singer (a much more spectacular version of "Adagio" than the one you already reacted to) nor his dombra playing duo with a keyboardist on "River of Love,"----both well worth viewing and responding to. I have also seen clips of Dimash playing drums, xylophone, guitar, viola and harp! There seems to be nothing he can't do.

This is from his Bastau Solo Concert in Kazakhstan in 2018 and as he is a native Kazakh he wears a Kazakh Shspan. He is a multi instrumentalist so he plays most things but around 8 really well. He was and they all were playing a Dombra, an ancient Kazakh Lute with 2 strings traditionally made from horse hair. This was one of many concerts he has done throughout the world. This is a Kazakh Folk Song that Dimash re arranged for his more modern way of interpreting so it's basically his song as he has made it famous. He did covers in Singer because that's what they wanted but he does his own original songs now, rarely does he do any now apart from Kazakh songs 🎵 Dimash is fully involved in all that he does, he is extremely creative and of course ge hires experts but its him that tells them what he wants and how he wants it. He is his own producer so the buck stops with him. The story behind Daididau. However, just half a year later he was arrested in Almaty again and executed by shooting of NKVD on 19 March 1938. During his time in prison, he was mistakenly informed that his wife left him. The song Daididau is a response to this information:

Daididau talks about a soldier who left for the war and was taken prisoner, they tell him that his woman left him for another man ..... instead .... she is dead. This is just to make him suffer more. He plays 7 instruments, including piano, guitar, drums, dombra, xylophone and more. He sang in 12 languages but speaks 3. That instrument is called DOMBRA and has 2 strings. One of my very favourites.. With this one he had my heart for good ❤️ Daididau is the name of the woman that this song is addressed to. It is a traditional song based on the story of a dissident poet who was imprisoned during the Great Terror, about a hundred years ago. He was falsely told his wife had left him 💔 The 14th moon refers to the moon on the 14th day of the month which is the full moon, so it means something like beautiful & radiant. Comparing a woman's beauty to the moon is one of the beautifully poetic tropes of Kazakh folk music.

It's his Kazakh culture as is the language . As of 5 years ago he had mastered 7 instruments and sang in 12 languages , but the #'s could be off in 2021.

We saw his brother, in the line of Dombra players in white. I saw on an old video , Dimash plaiyed Dombra at 5 years old. Every children in this Country, begin to play Dombra at 5 years old.. Can you react to Dimash when he sang with his sister, pls. She was afraid and Dimash told her that if she will feel bad, he will sing for her. And that was appended. I hope you be able to find it. Thanks for all, take care. From Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Hello friend, i hope that you and your family are in good health with the blessing of God. So far i have seen Dimash play 8 instruments professionally. I don't know if Dimash plays more instruments, i think it' s possible because he is not only a great singer, songwriter and performer but also a great musician.

The back story is a Kazakh poet imprisoned by foreigners and told his wife had left him, as a torture. Her nickname was Daididau. Famous Kazakh folk song.

In the Islamic calendar the month starts and finishes with the moon movement , so 14th moon is always a full moon, so we have a saying or a complement that your face is so beautiful and bright like a 14th moon (full moon)
