Honestly it looked like the moment the ref called the ball out he decided he was gonna get sent off. When the ref didn’t send him off for kicking the ball away he literally antagonized him until he got a red card.

It’s clear Dest has fallen from grace. He went from playing at a top club to finding a home at PSV. You talk to ANYONE 3 years ago, and nobody would’ve had Dest playing at PSV. He was supposed to be bigger than he turned out to be, and he shows it. Mental game is keeping him from self-actualizing.

What I would give to hear Gio Reyna's version of the story. He was right there for the whole thing and the first one to confront Dest about what he was doing. If Berhalter was a halfway decent manager he would make Sergino's future inclusion in the squad contingent on some kind of anger management/therapy. Lord knows the kid needs it.

I couldn't agree more, but I also generally agree with what Steve Nicol is saying in this clip. I think there might be some deeper arrogance happening with Dest that might not be so easily resolved. At a certain point you can't teach selflessness and respect. If someone is 23 and hasn't developed the type empathy to not put themselves so far above others, the person might not ever be trustworthy to do the right thing going forward.

Well to Shaka's point, it's MORE than the Reyna issue. Remember, Berhalter had another issue with McKennie's discipline that led to Weston being off the team as well. There's a lack of respect IMHO that exists in the camp and it's an issue. Always was. But there's the USSF....

Like Stevie said, I think Dest has a chip on his shoulder. With Dest being dropped by Barca and Milan, I bet he is feeling terrible and his ego, pride, confidence, whatever you wanna call it, has been completely withered away. As a Barca fan and US citizen, it sucks seeing him like this but I never truly felt he was a top level player. was he even a major role in that Ajax run in the UCL like De Jong and De Ligt?

He wasn’t part of the Ajax team that reached UCL semis. Didn’t play with De Jong and De Ligt. Right back was Mazraoui. Dest joined the first team the season after.

Hislop hits the nail on the head here, but look-Dest's maturity is going to have to catch up with his ability. He's a GREAT PLAYER, but discipline MUST be embraced by the player. He needs to EARN some things back.

Dest is more talented on the ball than Scally is. Scally is definitely solid defensively, but in a situation where you're missing Pulisic and Weah, the team might be giving up too much offensive creativity without Dest.

@@logirex dodgy keeper remains to be seen really, this wasn't typical Turner. I have no problem with them playing Scally and it seemed like he was going to play the second half anyway. I just think that if the objective was to score goals and needing a threat on the right without Weah and Weston, Dest was the better choice. If Berhalter only wanted to protect their lead then Scally would have been fine though.

Dest is the best player in the US pool on the ball. He is a Mexico destroyer. He is one of the most skillful players in CONCACAF. Public apology, 5 match ban, therapy and back on the team with a player vote. Zidane headbutted Materazzi, Cantona karate kicked a fan, and our own Dempsey snatched a refs book from him and ripped it up...but he's a legend. I'll be over this yesterday.

To think that Sergino is a grown man and a professional football player, and is behaving like that? It is completely unacceptable. I’m starting to see a pattern here, and it is not a good one. He needs to get anger management counseling or something, because he simply can’t behave like this. His teammates need to be able to depend on him to do his job, and if I were them, I would not trust him. He let them all down last night. If I were Berhalter, I wouldn’t be calling him up. The sad thing is, he’s by far the best right back we have!

I do understand his frustration though being a Barca fan. Had a Dream to be a Barca rb for years to come but then is just simply not good enough, and then the same happens at Ac Milan. I dident see any anger issues or bad behavior from him in Barca. He dident really Seem to fit with the team though socially. Just like semedo he kept a lot to himself and was very introverted. No way to know what kind of shape Ream will be in next summer but I think he played well this window, so I don't agree with dropping him at all. Especially since the only other left-footed CB we have that is starter-quality is John Brooks and Berhalter refuses to call him up. Aaronson however is another story, there's no way the minutes he gets wouldn't be better used by other players.

I agree with Shaka. When I saw Dest boot that ball into the stands for no apparent reason I thought what’s really going on here. My theory is Dest didn’t agree with being subbed off at half so he took matters in to his own hands and got sent off. The miss calls frustrated him and it was almost half why else couldn’t he wait 5 minutes? He knew his time on the pitch was coming to an end and his frustration spilled out.

It’s one thing to get a red for a bad challenge or even a quick lash out in frustration. But when your teammates keep pulling you away and you don’t listen or care to let a missed call go, there’s no excuse for that. He shouldn’t be called back up for the foreseeable future

Xavi saw who Dest was, folks thought Xavi was picking on him bc he didn't want an American in the starting lineup. It was never that, Xavi never had anything personal against Dest. But he saw a player who wasn't as talented as his ego made him appear and he saw immaturity. Sergino Dest is immature and if he isn't careful he could end up off the national team. Barca on the other hand will probably sell him for pennies when his PSV loan is over. We can hope this moment is a turning point for him mentally and he grows from here. @Lioness_UTV I know. I've watched Dest since he was 16. I was joking. The only part that should be taken seriously is that he will lose his spot if he doesn't grow up. In the meantime you have incidents with reyna, mckennie and now dest, but there's been others. They're a young team, and there are growing pains, and it's not easy on any coach in our situation. Money will always do the talking, though - this is a champions league right back and our starting right back - and that's for a very good reason. He'll come good.

Sigh, Berhalter is not the right coach for this team. I really tried to give him a fair shot but the longer this goes the more I see he's not going to be successful. Dest should have been crushed and instead he's the spoiled kid whos parent is in no way addressing his behavior. Berhalter is scared to address it too hard because he needs Dest to like him. He wants all the players to be his friend.

Dest knows Greg is weak .. so he can get away with it.. Greg is a weak manager and he isn't the man for the job, Dest should not be called up for the semifinals or final of the nation league , then should be called in for Copa America he doesn't start, rather be a sub or not call him in.. My lord i started listening to this without knowing what happened and they all sounded like dest headbutted or bit somebody or something like that but whaddayaknow.. a small push.
