Hi, it's an interesting video for us Vietnamese too! There's a few things I want to expand on: 1) About the personality of Northern vs Southern Vietnamese: it actually wasn't due to the war. Hundreds of years before the French even came to Vietnam, the difference was already established and every Vietnamese know it: the Northern people are hard to please, Middle people are frugal, while Southern people are easy-going. The reason is geography, the Northern land is harder to farm and they also have to deal with Chinese invasion for millenia, so Northern personality got harden by comparison. In the Middle of Vietnam, due to constant destruction by storms and flood, the people there regularly have to conserve everything they have. In the South, the Mekong delta is extremely fertile for food production, lesser threat of Chinese and virtually no threat of nature, easy sea trade with many neighbouring countries, so the Southern people have always been more laid back and accepting, not only to foreigners but also to Vietnamese from other provinces. Of course, it's only the exterior vibe that is different, most Vietnamese have the same level of hospitality and curiosity in foreigners on the inside. The easy test: try speaking Vietnamese, everywhere you go in Vietnam, you'll get happy compliments, or if you fall off your bike, any Vietnamese will immediately rush to you to help and even bring you to the hospital for free. 2) About ugly things such as men riding by and grab women's breast: unfortunately it's true and it happened to me once. It's not an extremely common thing but it does happen, just like murders. Fortunately, also just like murders, the percentage of such accidents in the population is really small compared to other countries. Vietnam is a safe country to travel, even for solo female travelers, and I have never feel dangerous walking inside any big city of Vietnam at night.

those sterotype of the different regions are just stereotypes. people might use it as banter at most. kinda like the brittish thinks americans are loud and obnoxious. and americans thinks the brittish are stuck up and pretentious. it's just stereotypes.

Nguyễn Sinh Cung (Ho Chi Minh) was a juvenile delinquent that also sexually molested and grabbed women breasts before his daddy Nguyễn Sinh Sắc, himself was demoted from government position due to killing a villager in a drunk fight, became worried and sent him abroad to find job.

It was the early '90s, and the sun was setting, casting a golden hue over the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. A young, more adventurous version of myself decided to take a solo boat trip along the winding river, a decision both exhilarating and slightly reckless. The water was calm, the surroundings serene, but as darkness descended, the treacherous turns of the river became less discernible. Panic set in when the motor stuttered, then died. I was stranded in the heart of the delta, surrounded only by the eerie sounds of nocturnal animals and my increasingly frantic heartbeat. Suddenly, another sound cut through the night: the distant murmur of a conversation. Rowing towards it, I stumbled upon a dilapidated hut standing on stilts in the water. A tall man with rugged western features stood there, speaking fluent Vietnamese with an elderly local. He introduced himself as Henry, an American journalist who had stayed back after the war, captivated by the country's culture and people. Seeing my plight, Henry tinkered with my boat's engine, all while sharing tales of his adventurous life in Vietnam. As we worked under the stars, he recounted stories of danger, of love, of moments when he felt he was one with the land. It was clear that Vietnam was no longer just a country for Henry, but home. Dawn broke as the boat roared back to life, thanks to Henry's expertise. We parted ways with a handshake, a nod, and a smile. The experience served as a poignant reminder of the unpredictable nature of adventures and the bonds formed in the unlikeliest of circumstances.

Đình is the village hall, where people in the past did meetings, judgement, collecting tax , performing folk songs, and ritual work. Chùa is the pagoda.

Exactly! And "Đình" is a place to worship the village lord, to worship the gods of some real generals and have great merits in the history of the country. Đình is usually located in the center of a village. "Chùa" is a temple where they worships Buddha because it is belongs to Buddhism

But not a polite way for he/she!
@HoangLe-rc5vb
@HoangLe-rc5vb Жыл бұрын
@@doantube22It's not a "polite" way of referring to someone but it's far from rude. It's more of a general reference to someone else instead of using the more polite "anh/em". I would for example use it to generally refer to my children when talking about them doing stuff as opposed to saying their name/official title. If someone asks if my son has eaten, I can say "Nó ăn rồi" which is to refer to him as having already eaten, but for some non-native speaker they can misconstrue that as me rudely referring to my son as if I were speaking about a dog or cat. The other way of speaking would be way too formal because it ends up sounding like "con của tôi ăn rồi" and will come off as less friendly as if you were speaking to a stranger. This is how things are lost in translation because people don't understand the nuances, essence and context. @TheTravelingClatt

Of course not all vietnamese guys do that, but a lot of them "play" like that with little condemnation by the people. I would say it's less of a crime than a small robbery. It doesn't happen that often, but it seems like everyone has at least seen that once.

Under the utterly corrupt Communist regime, sexual assaults happen often in Vietnam and vastly under-reported. You can only hear about those reported, like "Irish woman still shaken one month after sexual assault in Hanoi" or "Sexual predators targeting foreign women wanted in Hanoi" via online search. The Communist police didn't even do anything about it until the women filed complaints, unfortunately.

4:51 when the north took over the south post war that was pretty bad for some, among many things. the country is pretty safe and prosperous now and stable . It would be better if you don't discuss the political stuff because there are those that live abroad that lived through the war and/or postwar and doesn't like the vietcong very much. most vietnamese abroad honestly don't care because they're not living there anymore and they care more about helping their family and giving their family a better life. people from different regions of vn are very respectful and welcoming to everyone. everyone is just trying to live their lives and make sure their kids got a good future.

Signature bun cha is not anything to be passionate about because an innocent pig has been raised in a horrible factory farm, suffering daily with wounds and infections and then brutally murdered slowly... we should all go vegan and set a good example in Vietnam, stand for the animals....so simple to just replace that dead pig with tofu or mushroom and keep the other ingredients and cultural flavor. It is not tempting to try that horror. Thank you for supporting jew, muslim, vegan people.
