Jeff Chandler was once married and had a kid{s} too. The reason why he and his wife parted was there was no communication with him. He never discussed anything with her: his work, his feelings, so she felt completely unwanted and shut out. When he arrived home from the studio, he would tell her "I'm feeling very tired and would retire". This wasn't much of a way to conduct a marriage. Yes, Jeff Chandler was an exceedingly good looking man and that salt and pepper hair gave him distinction. He starred in movies with all the top leading ladies of the day: The lady takes a flier [Lana Turner]; Foxfire [Jane Russell]; Female on the beach [Joan Crawford]; Jeanne Eagles [Kim Novak], Stranger in my arms [June Allyson], and, in the 2nd half of the 50's in Raw wind in Eden with Esther Williams from which period began their torrid affair. From all the characters that he essayed, one could gauge that he was very deep, very esoteric and, fans, the world over; wanted to unravel the mystery behind that handsome rugged face. It really beats me as to why Esther Williams fabricated a story that Jeff was a cross-dresser, and cited this as the reason for their breakup. Both these humongous stars are no longer with us and only they have the answer we are all now seeking.

Esther was always a pathological liar. A real piece of work. She later said she made up the Jeff Chandler cross dressing crap to sell more books. In the meantime she was called out by many of her fellow performers, starting with Sheila MacRae who flatly called her a liar, and said Esther constantly lied. Next Fess Parker who was livid. She also falsely lied about other co-stars. Cyd Charisse told her, "you must have needed the money," to make up such garbage.
