Dan, don't think you know how much of an influence you have on people's lives. A haircut may just seem like a simple thing but you have no idea how good it feels to get exactly what you want. You're a legend, mate!

You are 100% correct! I’ve had the same hairstylist for about 10 years, off and on. There have been just two times that I really loved my hair when I left her salon, and the style I liked the most…..well she never even came close the second time. She is however the lesser of the two evils (known and unknown stylist) so I keep going back to her unless I’m terribly upset with the last style and just decide to grow my hair long, which is what I’m doing right now, except that I did give myself “The Brad Mondo” cut that I saw on YT. It turned out fine. Dan is just awesome, and not bad to look at either. 😊

@@lolaottinger3038I have the same issue that the stylist will cut it great the first time & then can never recreate EVEN WITH A PICTURE of how *they* did it the first time. Not a picture of someone else’s hair or cut, but their *own* cut they can’t recreate it. I’ll continue to go back b-c as you said lesser of two evils b-c I’m familiar with the person. But eventually I have to change b-c it becomes intolerable. PS I agree with what you said about Dan 😁

I love how the client is so interested and engaged in the conversation. He's asking good questions and is valuing Dan's responses. When I was in school I wasn't taught point cutting but I was watching Dan's videos. I started point cutting on clients on the shop floor and my teacher actually stopped by and said "where'd you learn that?" and I had to say YT. It was frustrating to be in school, paying a lot of money, to then be getting a real education from Dan and others like him on YT. Now that I'm a professional barber, I understand that there will always be something new to learn. Dan's videos are a true blessing to come back and watch again and again, picking up new techniques and skills. Thank you to Dan and everyone at RG to helps makes this content.

One of my Moms' boyfriends was a barber, and he was awesome!! I would spend delightful hours in his shop with him, Frank (his partner) and their customers and regulars, and their "bookies", and that whole scene, and it was wonderful!! And my hair never looked so good - even though I am a female he did my hair - and I look back very fondly on those days!! And we all did the "crypric crossword" together and one day the answer to the clue "tonsorial artist" was ... barber!! 👍🏼 I bought him gift of a skeleton on an electric chair (the chair was named Sparky Sing Sing), and there was a header that read, "I thought I was here for a haircut!!" 😂😂😂 Good times!! ❤

OMG at last someone that actually understands that there is no substitute for years of proper training, Dan you have reiterated what I tell people that you cannot learn this trade in a week, well done mate for saying this online. And for the first time in 40 years of cutting hair a customer phoned and asked if I can cut hair, of course I said yes, however to my surprise he wasn’t being stupid it was that he had been to 9 barbers who turned him away as he had long hair and wanted a scissor cut, unbelievable!

Thanks for this. I have brown/darker skin tone with straight hair and this hair cut is a great example i can show my barber. As a compliment it is a great idea that you cut hair of all textures and skin tones because ive noticed that not all hair styles match well with particular face shapes/ skin tones/ ethnic specific features.

I haven't had a barber explain exactly what I was thinking in my head. I'm not a barber, but I've always been pretty OCD with my haircuts. I've realized from jumping around that a lot of barbers just apply what they've learned to every head. Obviously, not all heads are the same. You are the first I've heard to explain that there is a lack of scissor work skill these days.
