Yes! I love Nyango Star! He’s the unofficial mascot of Kuroishi City, Aomori, Japan. I live in Aomori and it’s one of the poorest prefectures in Japan. Because of that, this dude (who remain anonymous) wanted to attract more tourists to the prefecture so he decided to combine his drumming skills with mascot culture and now Aomori (especially Kuroishi) has gotten more attention because of him. You should check out Scaretale by Nightwish. It’s with their second singer Annette Olzon, but I feel like her voice was perfect for that song.

If I ever go to Japan... you bet I wont be glad with the big cities, now that I know about all those other places. Seriously, How many foreigners ever heard about Aomory, if not for Nyango? Or Susaki, Funabashi, Kumamoto, etc. At least to put the names out there, these mascots are worth the effort.

Oh, you like drums then? You need to do Wintersun! Either "Sons of Winter and Stars", "Time", or "Land of Snow and Sorrow". Aside the immense drumming work, guitar work is out of this world, and vocals too (some growling on there). If you do it, chose the Live Rehearsals at Sonic Pump Studios. The drummer, Kai Hahto, is the current drummer for Nightwish (you did some videos with him, Poet, Greatest Show on Earth). In Nightwish he server as a (very) competent drummer. In Wintersun, he destroys the competition. Give 'em a shot!

2:20 really is the punchline with this character... Like, why in hell such a great drummer would give all that skill to a character like that! The answer to this is already given in other comments, Japanese mascots are quite the phenom. I actually think it may become a form of theater, Kabuki started out like this, more or less.
