Hey Daley, you've been very helpful! I was a bit distressed because I couldn't get my controllers to track once inside SteamVR but I realized that I just had to calibrate the tracker as well, and it worked surprisingly well with a single camera on top of my monitor. What I really wanted to play was VTOL VR, so I thought that all I'd need was the controllers. However, when using Trinus, my headset seems to be far below my controllers, so I can't push them even into the start button. When I eventually get my VR headset (I'm getting one of the VR-Tek ones pretty soon), I think I'll have the same issue since that one is also only 3DoF. Do you know a way I could "slew" headset upwards so that the controllers won't always be above my head? PSMoveService has turned out to be an absolute bargain thus far, so I'm pretty onboard with the idea of building this tracker, but I was wondering if you knew a workaround for the meantime.

Glad you are enjoying them! I try to put them out when I can, but this is a side project for me so I can't quite keep up to a daily upload. But I'm using a galaxy S6 edge+. I have gotten overheating before, but to be honest, it was almost avoidable or expected in all cases. Like.. using it outside in 28 degree weather! Ventilated headsets, or forgetting to turn screen brightness down. So really, user error any time it overheated. But it is touchy.

Daley Tech Thank you for reply! wow i have same phone and Gear VR Innovator Edition purchased them 2 years ago. I thought it would be too old for VR for PC. But now I will give it a try. btw is it any differences between ps3 and ps4 move controllers will it work as expected? Looks like only 10$ differences for pair of controllers.
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 7 жыл бұрын
No problem at all! Keep in mind, all the phone is doing is decoding the H.264 or H.265 video feed from the computer and relaying sensor data back to the PC. The PC is still the one rendering the game, and doing everything that a normal Vive or Oculus rift ran PC would do. In regards to the PS Move Controllers, the older PS3 ones are the best. if you can find used ones online that is ideal. Not only cause it's much cheaper, but also because they use an older firmware that still allows the PC to read the magnetometer. The new PS4 use a newer firmware that you can't calibrate the magnetometer with. Strangely enough!

If you have no parts at all, and you prefer to have something just plug and play, then nolo may be the best bet. PS Move Service does require some troubleshooting and a fair bit of setup to get working.

You will need 2-3 cameras :) 1 camera just doesn't work very well at all. But things are somewhat different in the main setup now compared to my setup guide. It's still close enough to get through, but I really should get a new one up soon. It is just painfully long to put those together.

Hi Daley. Props for you very clear and helpful videos. After a windows reboot I can't get SteamVR to recognize the headtracking. It's tracking just fine in Test Tracking Pose in the PSMoveconfig tool, just not in Steam. The two controllers are also working in SteamVR. Any ideas on what I missed? Maybe something I have to add or remove in steamvr.settings file? Thanks in advance
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 7 жыл бұрын
For head tracking to work, you need to make sure you have FreePie running the script, and you need to select what your tracking with PS Move Freepie Bridge, then in Riftcat, you need to make sure you have the tracking set to Phone orientation and Freetrack position. With all of those in place, it should work. Your steamvr.vrsettings file seems to be fine if the controllers work as they should.
@jeroengijselhart3567
@jeroengijselhart3567 7 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks for the reply. However: FreePie is running the script. In PS Move Freepie Bridge I select: 1) HMD 2) Controllers Which device type do you want to track: 1 Enter the ID of the device you wish to use: 0 I don't run Rifftcat since I'm not using a phone. It also worked previously without Rifftcat. Any ideas left?
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 7 жыл бұрын
What program are you using to relay the freetrack data from Freepie to SteamVR? Riftcat takes care of it for mobile phones, so whatever headset you have, you would need to use some sort of bridge. It sounds like the problem lies there.

Cool. I'll get that dialed in then. Does it matter if I'm using the 2015 Gear VR (white) instead of the 2016 Gear VR (black)? I know the fov is larger in the 2016. But are there enough features to warrant buying the newer model for $35? Or is there a better headset to get instead?
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 7 жыл бұрын
I bought the 2016 when I already had the 2015, and I do notice a decent amount of different. The FOV is a TINY bit bigger, but most importantly, I find it doesn't fog up as much and the inside is black. So I found a cheap used one online and got it. But I've heard from many people that it's not worth the upgrade, but I thought it was. What I don't like though, is that you need a USB-C adapter to use the external port. That part is a pain, but it does come with the gear.

@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 5 жыл бұрын
You need software to send the data from freepie to SteamVR. If you're using a phone, then Riftcat is doing it. So Piplay doesn't have a way of sending freepie data to SteamVR as head positional data. That is what Driver4VR does. There is an alternative similar but it's dedicated for Kinect. PS move service only does hand controllers since those are tracked very differently than head position.

Hello Daley Tech. I'm not really interested in VR as much as I am simply interested in 'VR for Elite: Dangerous'. So my question is, for E:D ONLY, if you had the choice on either a Pimax with your positioning setup, or an Oculus Rift, (pretend price isnt an issue) and pretend both headsets are stuck in their current state, which would you choose? Is the head tracking you've designed here as flawless as an Oculus CV1? does the loss of SDE far outweigh any tracking issues? Thanks for your time.
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 7 жыл бұрын
TBH, go with Oculus Rift. The SDE may be more noticeable, but keep in mind, the Pimax uses HDMI 1.4 which has a max of 4K @ 30Hz. So the 4K bit is true.. but only kinda. So you would have to drop the resolution to increase frame rate. And keep in mind as well, your brain will start to ignore the SDE after a bit of use. It's not something you will notice long term. You will only notice it for the first few minutes. Plus the tracking on the CV1 is much better than this setup. This setup works well, but not as good as Oculus.
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you would get 60 when lower. That's correct. And believe me, the fact that there is little-no SDE doesn't cure motion sickness. Motion sickness is caused when your head makes a movement and your eyes see something else. So think like latency and sudden tracking loss will case it. In fact, this is precisely the reason why the DK2 screen fades to gray when tracking is lost. Most people wan to turn that off so they don't lose their display all together when the camera loses the headset. That normally doesn't last long cause vomit comes up if that tracking is suddenly lost and the screen stops all of the sudden while turning around. The quality of the display is something to be noted as well. Oculus rift will have much better color as well. Many sites will state that between the Vive and Rift, the Rift display is much better. And I've never heard really great things about the Pimax display. Plus the extra resources that the PS move service ads. It's also more difficult to setup than the rift and the number of benefits from the oculus outweigh the pimax. If you have a Note 4 and headset. Grab 2 ps eye cameras and try the setup before you buy one of the 2. Make sure you can get it working with Riftcat. Cameras are pretty cheap and to make that head tracking, it's super cheap as well. May be worth a try since it could be a deal breaker for the Pimax.

@DaleyTech 7 жыл бұрын
I did watch a bit of that video and it's an interesting perspective. Most of what I've seen on the pimax suggests otherwise, but driver updates can always help fix things too, so perhaps it's gotten better. I guess if you're looking at ED only, perhaps it may be the better go then! I have never tried the Pimax, and really wish I could.

The biggest concern is the LED to use. You need to use a decently bright LED. Here is the only one I could find that would be ideal. amzn.to/2rWYz7n I'll update the description with more parts

Daley Tech thank you so much. I am also wondering if I can track literal vertical movement. so like standing to crouching with hmd headtracking
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 7 жыл бұрын
Yep, that is done with Freepie. Most of my main setup guide would apply. Expcept for calibration the controllers, you would make virtual controllers and not have to worry about controller calibration since other software would take care of your wiimotes. You would also follow this virtual HMD guide as is.

Daley Tech ok final question. Where do you buy the LEDs for the tracker?
@DaleyTech

I normally get mine at a local electronics store, but aliexpress or amazon should have them as well. They just need to be something like a 1W LED and colored ones make it easier.

Couldn't you do this with ps navigation controllers and save because ps navigation is way cheaper
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 7 жыл бұрын
unfortunately the navi controllers have no way of determining orientation. The virtual controllers will only compute the position in the room and not any type of rotation.

Hello, I have a problem with my ping pong ball i used for this project. I have actually tried 3 different balls, and each one has it's own problem. The most common one is the lines from the ball assembly(This is the picture if you don't understand me: imgur.com/a/olijJBT ), it blocks out the light and the cameras don't detect it very well. Any recomendations?
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 5 жыл бұрын
That little line shouldn't matter all that much. When testing, you should see the blue box tracking it the entire time still. You can also right click a bit closer to that line and see if you can get it to fill up a little more, or turn up the gain a little bit as well.
@the_unkilled2238
@the_unkilled2238 5 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you looked at the image i linked,but when i calibrate it and then use it in pose testing, it is very shaky. So i looked at the video tracking test and saw it bouncing up and down(under and above the line.) Will try some more things.
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 5 жыл бұрын
Ahh.. I see. Here is another idea potentially. If you have a file or sandpaper, you can try to make that line a bit thinner to let some more light through. Don't take too much off though for obvious reasons. But try the gain adjustment if you haven't already. But remember that it will affect everything else when you change it. And yes, i did check the image and fully understand what you mean.
@the_unkilled2238
@the_unkilled2238 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, will try the sandpaper. And the gain adjustment actually worked... to a certain degree at least. I don't know if it's because of the lightning(btw what is the "optimal lighting" setup)but it is working better, only that it's still a little bit shaky. Will try different lightnings,exposures etc... But thanks for the help so far! If you get any more ideas please send them. Love your channel! And you always respond really fast, seriously, it's amazing. Cheers!
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 5 жыл бұрын
No problem! Glad I can help :) Optimal lighting is what you would consider as "dim". That way the colored orbs stand out but it's no so dark that they reflect off of everything. Keep in mind, the end goal result is that you get a playable experience. If you're going for perfection it won't happen. Even PSVR doens't feel perfect compared to the vive or oculus. So as long as it's working and not making you sick and you can dodge things in game, that's a win. You can always keep trying to tweak it further, but it really just depends on how much time you want to put into it.

There is a way to do it in the freepie script, but I'm unsure. Sorry I can't help with that. But you can try moving the bulb between the middle of your head, and on the headset. For some odd reason, people get different results between the 2.

It's most likely a USB bandwidth issue. Try putting that 4th camera into different ports, or drop your FPS of the cameras during the color calibration.

amazing! i have 2 questions: 1- If i setup hmd on psmove Will It recognize everytime as hmd? If yes them It can send directly without bug the hands because i need to configure on steam folds to ignore hmd Mac serial... and sometimes steam crashs and i need to redo and test If It works,If not i need to do again and restart all. a little thing: If i setup hmd on like you showed,i could not use the bulb light but the Psvr lights.... but them there is another problem...It cannot track all 7 lightbars.. i wish psmove service guys could do this track Works them i dont need another psmove on Head..because It sometimes lose track and falling down from my PSVR....kkkk. but its ok. thank you for the video
@DaleyTech
@DaleyTech 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, this way you don't have to enter in any serial and you're telling freepiebridge to track the virtual HMD instead of an assigned ID that could get mixed up (which it has for me in the past a few times). Some PSVR work has been done with PSMS, but there are a lot of complications and with so few developers the demand for it was pretty low so it has not really been looked at for some time now.

Having that camera wouldn't be needed. 3-4 cameras are ideal but you can go more if I recall correctly. I saw some custom versions of the software floating around and able to go beyond. I don't recommend it though since it adds far more complications than it's worth.
