Thank you for this explanation. I fully agree. People who oppose this headcovering practice with 'historical context' kind of phrases want to live in disobedience. It is simple - the Bible is a standalone book! God's word does not need any history pamphlet or history knowledge to learn what to obey. This is an important point - Paul said "For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified." Christians need to absolutely stop using that phrase of 'historical context' to justify disobedience. Haven't you noticed that historical context is only used when there is opposition to a commandment? When it is a blessing of long life or prosperity - nobody uses historical context as a reason the blessing is not for them. The Word of God is settled forever in heaven(Psalms 119:89) - and it does not have any supporting historical books it comes along with. One very simple fact is that we are New Testament believers - and most of us are New Testament Gentile believers (because we are not biological Israelites) - and Paul is the Apostle to the Gentiles(Romans 11:13) - so the revelations that Jesus Christ gave him are for us. We are in the same dispensation is Paul, that is, believers who believed in the resurrected Christ. All the epistles Paul (inspired by the Holy Spirit 100%) wrote to gentile believers in Rome, Corinth, Ephesus, etc, are all for YOU. These are doctrines for YOU. You deceive yourself if you say the are not for you. One of the most important verses regarding this head covering issue is in verse 16: "But if anyone wants to argue about this, we have no other custom, nor do the churches of God." Paul says that this is for the churches of God! So it does not matter if you are in Corinth in AD50, in Egypt in AD500, in Italy in AD1600, or the United States in 2024 - this is for the churches of God - and guess what, the Holy Spirit also says - IF ANYONE WANTS TO ARGUE ABOUT THIS - isn't it only God that knows what people will argue about? How is it that those words are there - directly at you, the arguing one? It means that even back then people did not want to cover their heads - that is why that statement is there. So please, humble yourself, and cover your head - if not you dishonor your head. I do not know what the consequences are for dishonoring your head, but there are/will be consequences. Another parallel I want to draw is Jesus paying taxes. They came to Peter and asked him "Doesn't your Master pay taxes?" Peter responded that Jesus does pay taxes. So when Peter went to Jesus to ask Him about probably getting the money to pay the taxes, Jesus made this point to Peter basically: We are not supposed to pay taxes. Its immigrants that should be taxed, not the people of the land - but, so that we don't offend them, we will pay it. This is what Jesus did. He made a concession, so there was not dispute - so how is it that people who are supposed to be children of obedience will do anything to not cover their hair - and in my reading of the scriptures - in 1 Corinthians 11, women are directly told to cover their heads in the presence of God.

I have avoided this topic for years bc I was raised united pentecostal....I am a believer in all of the word of God. He is our Savior. I believe in modesty....but I couldn't not agree with the cut uncut hair. I am so glad God impressed upon you to share this. I used to use a Shawl to pray . I am going to look up these Greek words. Do you wear your cover all the time or bring it with you ?

Head coverings were used in early Jewish communities as Paul said because of the Angels 1 Cor. 11:10. You need to read the historical literature at the time to know that, which you can find in the Book of Enoch. The tradition did not want to tempt the angels and have them do what they did in Genesis 6. This is the only reason why they wore them back then. Why women wear them today has nothing to do with the original biblical context. The reason why Paul says it's a disgrace not to wear one because you are becoming a temptress to angelic beings.

It was a rule written by Paul. Jesus never taught this. This has been a deep research for me. Have to be careful to really look at what Jesus said and not a man who follows after Him.
