I’ve gotten a lot better with this method through practice thanks a lot HRP. You definitely need to have a finesse with the drill and polisher to get the results you want. I’ve been using turtle wax one and done polish and compound with a couple dabs of meguiars Plastx for the final polishing. It’s been working good 👍

Well. Today I tackled my headlight on my Mercedes CLS. One side is brand new and obviously looks super nice. The other side is the original 10yr old lens.It looks like crap and is hazy but not yellow. I did everything by your book but still it looked hazy. I remember you saying Mercs were the worst to restore. I hoped the clearcoat would do the trick, but no. I quickly wiped the clearcoat of with thinners. It was then I realised some a hole had 2ked the light previously, as it started crazing up. You would not believe how thick the 2k clearcoat was.It took a good 30mins of wiping and sanding with 220 wet, to remove it all. (These are a big light). I will start over again tomorrow. Is the orange sponge the best with the 3m finess-it to generate the heat? Cheers

Only advice I would have is to make sure you check your work thoroughly because after markets are made out of cheap material which requires more work and you're going to have to check your work more frequently.. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gbyRq8uempnHgXU.htmlsi=riutoln7O7jVrrcY

I really enjoyed and learned from the video the only problem I have is the fact that with a drill brush I have some areas that are more sanded because de drill attachment doesn’t run smooth I think or maybe it’s the shape of the headlight so that’s why I prefer sanding with hand better but after watching this video I doubting hand is still good enough 🙈 and I did it with wet sanding with hand and hoped if it was also enough with dry sanding with hand and end with polisher is good but I don’t know 🙈

Update: i got mojority of the work down now. Sanding, buffing. Amazing. Part im still having troubles with is spraying. In my garage it looks perfect, i take it outside and the spray looks like spray. Not sure i can describe that better. I did 4 cars and the customers are happy, but they should considering i only billed them $100 canadian which is what the dealer charged them just to polish. Doesnt look like paint run. It's flat. You look at it, and you can see the clear. I was using the spray in the meguiars kit, the tiny bottle. I also purchased the bigger bottle you use so still waiting for an opportunity to use that one. Maybe there is a difference or maybe i just cant spray. You ever had a bad batch?
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 8 ай бұрын
I've had bad batch but it's extremely rare... Most likely to something you're doing.... It sounds like you double coating which you are never supposed to do no matter what they can says.... Or is praying from too far away.. maximum of five to seven inches away... I would advise to watch a couple of my videos whichever one and just watch the spray part and examine that... examine it

When using the drill do you have it set to the low or high setting? The 450 or 1700 rpm.
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 6 ай бұрын
You could do either or as a beginner I would suggest start on the low speed.. you got to keep in mind I'm a seasoned professional that has done thousands of lights literally no exaggeration.. I would start slow and work my way up...

How come you never use a DA polisher? I have both a drill and a 3in rules DA polisher. Does it matter if you are using a drill (rotary) or a DA?
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 8 ай бұрын
It matters heavily... The day you're not going to produce enough heat... That's for one they typically aren't going to be the same kind of RPMs also it's not the same type of motion it's a much stranger sanding and a rotary and very likely easier to lead to a lot of scratching and pressure control... DAs are designed to slide across the surface not taking the surface up in fact the design to be the opposite of digging the surface up... There really no good in the sanding stage and or the polishing stage the only thing I would approve a da used for on headlights is aftercare wax application... And besides all that like I said the heat is just not there but the heat is one of the hugest factors while my headlights look Superior to others....(people think I'm talking shit when I say things like that but it's just what it is)

where are you finding the headlight coating now... seems to be a shortage, cannot even buy direct from Meguiars now
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 8 ай бұрын
I get everything from Amazon... They always beat the direct purchase from any manufacturer even if you got a contractors deal with them Amazon always finds a way to beat their prices by far... But yeah I get my shit from Amazon... But I'm buying like 10 at a time so sometimes it's weeks and not a month or so before I have to order some more.
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 8 ай бұрын
Also throughout the year there's always seasonal shortages this is why I buy in bulk... One of the reasons... I'm not talking thousands I'm talking instead of buying two cans I'll buy 10... I keep that method with everything else because it happens with everything else....

Is there a reason you don't use the polisher to sand your headlights also?
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 8 ай бұрын
Because of polisher a true polisher like this is a compact high-speed polisher the thing goes 7800 RPM you would start a fire on the headlight way too fast it's designed for heat basically... If you add a sandpaper on there it's highly likely you would destroy the light .. not a very good idea trust me...🤓 And just to let you see it next to each other.. Drill = 1700 RPM. Polisher=7800 RPM

@theheadlightrestorationpro I have the AC Delco 2 speed 12 volt polisher. Is it safe to sand with it using the slow speed? Thays what I did on my headlights last time I did them. Hope I didn't ruin the lenses?

@dankomartek2145 already answered your question.. you never sand with this not on headlights..

So why do you use a torch instead of a heat gun?
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro 7 ай бұрын
Because of torch is FASTER you got to take in effect that this is a videography standpoint as well as headlight restoration education... If you like to know how to produce KZfaq videos correctly there's other videos on the internet... A torch produced the effect that I wanted almost instantly the saving Time on the video.. The point was expressed very perfectly and very easy to understand....
@theheadlightrestorationpro

Also I saw another comment of yours... You're speaking of bonding to the headlight... You're thinking of a very old method for people had to use things that weren't designed for headlights... This is a New age technology it does not need to dig into the caverns of the substance that it's bonding to.. when using material and products that's actually designed for headlights.... it's a new world.... You don't have to spray furniture varnish on headlights anymore.... This might help you understand a little bit better... As well as many other videos on my channel over 100 of the best headlight restoration anybody in this world... Proof's in the pudding..💯 And people who talk too much are you the smartest people in the room... The educators, the professors, the people who make smart people.... As that goes with any sort of Education involves a explicit amount of talking.. if not nobody would learn anything...👑 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gqlkjaWmlZiuips.htmlsi=QlosjX_YuOz27tVm
