While warming up in the WCOOP $10,000 Heads Up Tournament, Sauce sits in at Doug's $50/$100 heads up Zoom table. It's rare these days for Doug to get action at high stakes heads up no limit hold 'em, and even rarer for it to be broadcasted live on Twitch!
Doug has a lot of heads up history with Ben Sulsky. With much fanfare, they once played a 15,000 hand heads up challenge with a $100,000 figure sidebet, in which Doug won $727,000 at the tables.
Doug is in Vancouver for the PokerStars WCOOP. Check out his full schedule here: pbs.twimg.com/...

I guess sauce figured you would be distracted by streaming and he might gain a tiny edge.

Doug pls can you explain one thing from $102,000 WCOOP? WHY, did most of the players, Registred just seconds before late registration was closing? Could you explain what kind of Tourney- tactic is that ? Was watching Jason Mercier stream ( do not want to comment the quality) ( But DONT STOP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING ;-) )

Yeah, been wondering the same thing. I guess the ones who late regged feel that they're pre-flop play is stronger than post-flop. So maybe they're regging when it's generally less pre-flop play?

It has to do with ICM. The later you register, the more your chips are worth, since you have less compared to other players with a broken (non winner take all) pay structure. It also places you closer to the money. There is no edge in entering early anyways against such a good field. Don't get me wrong though, the edge gained is less than the rake, maybe $600 or so worth of advantage. The game mechanics of Poker also naturally gives the shorter stacks an advantage because of antes. If you have 1 ante, you are getting 9:1 against 3 players or so,. If you have 8 ante, very similar story. Bigger stacks are forced to give up equity in side pots against each other when they fold, or avoid hands altogether pre flop, while shorter stacks often get to go all in and always realize their equity. It also makes shove spots very clean. A bigger stack cannot steal blinds light with an 80bb stack when the bb has him covered and the sb and button players have 10bb, but when the 10bb player is on the cut off, he can. tl;dr - In a $102,000 buy in, you want to get every edge you can. Entering the tournament later grants a small edge which has magnified $EV because of the high buy in amount.

There was a potential for overlay, that is, the guarantee was more than the tourney buyin so many people wanted to capitalize on this, but because so many people thought the same way, the overlay that seemed like it could exist didn't.

Didn't catch the first few hours, but from what I understood from forums, there was a point in time where there were 9 players registered, and Doug, otb, Vogelsang and sauce was at the on table, the five others on the other. Considering these four players are probably considered four of the players you the least want to be on the table with, no one seemed to register to inevitably be put onto that table. I believe the tables were like this, with no one registering, for like two hours. Just a theory though, and it doesn't explain why people didn't register at the very start, but could explain why so many waited until last minute. Btw, found a post on 2p2 from Doug from during the event (on forums while streaming and playing a 102k, like a boss), _"This will get a ton of late reg, people dont want to play deep in this lineup"_

Take the winner of the tournament Bencb, why would he sit 500 bb deep with the best cashgameplayers in the world? He knows he has the best understanding of ICM and tournament strategy so he just waites when everyone is less deep.

I would say it's a very bad runnout for a 3barrel with the A on the turn given your sizing OTF, it leaves you with almost only AA-AK for value, and improves a lot Sauce's range, like Axhh, AQ-AT with Ah and some two pairs. Stil, after all, we have to find some bluffs, and not having hearts helps, so nice bluff as long as you don't have all gutshots and OESD in your 3barrel range because as I said the A is a really bad card. On the other hand, with K3s, blocking AK and unblocking hearts or BWs is a good almost standard call by Sauce.

Your assessment of the situation is quite off concerning Dougs value range and the A on the turn which on the contrary is a very good card for Dougs range! Sauce for example has almost no AQ in his range since this is a very strong hand HU and he would 4bet it very often as part of a balanced preflop game-plan. Doug on the other hand can have all AQ combos and AQ is like the nuts on this board even AJ is very strong and should be used as part of a thin value range because as you correctly pointed out, Sauce has to defend Kx on the river so often if he wants to have a correct minimum defence frequency. Doug made a very well thought out bluff and the board, especially the turn, favoured his range.

The A is much better card for the 3bettor range than for de BTN, Sauce call is too border line. Even the call to 3bet is border. 56s there is a std bluff since you dont have any heart and btn have all of them and u block the A-5 A-6 that are std calls in btn range. Btn never has AK or the low unsuited Ax. U should definetly bluff that combo there and im not in a position to say Sauce made a bad play obiosly but i think that K3 is a fold. Of course nosebleeds are another world but in nl50, 100 , 200 if u call ALL your kings there u lose money in the long run. Doug is full of value.
