I shared a short clip of Jerika’s story last week and this week, I’m sharing her FULL interview.
FYI: This conversation is NOT TO BE MISSED if you’re wondering whether quick fixes that aim to “bio-hack” the vagus nerve are to be tried or trusted. All to say, when I think back to what Jerika shared with me a few weeks ago, the word harrowing is an understatement… I am just glad she is okay and finally experiencing what REAL regulation is all about!

It’s the way the world of humans has been working for a long time, so the dangers are old and known ❤ now there is knowledge and ways to start changing this, as Irene says, one nervous system at a time. Thank you for your service, as they have the habit of saying to army members in the US..

Gosh, strong relate! I started having dissociative seizures in May 2022 after using cannabis. My initial seizure lasted hours. They tend to last about 15-20 mins now and usually involve some kind of kicking, running or lashing out type of movements. I get a huge wave of emotion afterwards, with lots of tears. I've also used TV, alcohol and binge eating to regulate for most of my life. I've started 21 Days and hope to do SBSM in the autumn.

Hi Irene. All your guests and alumni look so well. I have cPTSD I've had it all my life. I have had years of alcohol addiction, and I just don't look like your guests, They all look so healthy, and I just don't look like that. I am 68 years old. I have been through many detoxes and a couple of rehabs. But periodically, I relapse into drinking episodes. I have a good therapist now, who understands trauma. I know now that I am dysregulated most of the time, if not disassociated most of the time. I feel distressed most of the time. I have been watching your videos for 2 or 3 years now, and have learned such a lot. But I think I am a long way from being able to do your SBSM programme.

Hello, Sophia with Team Lyon here. Sorry to hear about what you're going through and thank you for sharing and doing the work. Irene's programs are created to be effective with all types of trauma, even if a person has not previously worked with a therapist. You can start small, from the free "Healing Trauma" training and then do the 21 Day Nervous System Tune Up, taking as much time as you need for each lesson. Finding your own pace is an integral teaching of our courses. I hope this helps offer some clarity. Wishing you the best.

This was a delight to listen to and watch. Such a well articulated experience of your healing journey. I had a similar experience with an osteopath, not so dramatic as yours, but similar. I'm really glad you bounced back from that rather quickly, it sounds terrifying. When I heard that there was another person that you were not told about, I felt so angry and unsafe. I have no problem saying no, but most of the time when I say no, my whole body goes to shut down (not healthy either). We don't have good discernment of who we can trust, until we settle in our bodies. Thank you for sharing, Jerika, this was very valuable to me and I'm sure for so many people who will watch this. ❤️

Irene I came across one of your videos a few months ago and today I came across Irene’s Story of coming out of functional freeze. That prompted me to look at your website and the courses you have put together. I then found this video and am so impressed by Erika and all the work she has done. When I heard her say she is gentle with her body and self, drug free, and no longer being a fawn I realized I want all of that for myself and living son. I lost my eldest son (it will be 3 years in November) and I thought it was just grief but realized this goes way back to my traumatic childhood. Erica is beautifully articulate and a beautiful person inside and out. Thank you both for this eye opening video. I’m so tired of being here “for my son” because if it were up to me I wouldn’t. I plan to delve into your courses and videos. Tired of feeling paralyzed, I’m so ready to thrive not survive.

Irene- you say it’s slow, but so many of the folks you interview experience so many shifts within a year! Not all, but many❤
@santisanti8386
@santisanti8386 5 ай бұрын
I'm not Irene, but I can add my two cents 😂. It is individual, and once a shift happens, it doesn't mean that you are completely done and you can live happily ever after and forget about it, although you will have a bigger capacity for peace and happiness - that's for sure, you will have to continue working on yourself. And the capacity for joy will grow, peacefulness will grow, self-confidence and other good things too... It can be like a myriad of little shifts day by day. Things will go back and forth and then they will get better and new things will come up, that is why it is a long process...But it is so rewarding...and, as Irene said once, meanwhile you can have a good life, you can do amazing things, even though you are on a healing journey... That is my experience so far with the work I've done with Irene's free resources. It takes me longer to understand it, I hope I will be able soon to join the program and fully do the work... It is interesting, when a shift happens, no matter how big or small it is, it changes your consciousness, you feel like "really, I can feel this way?wow. I can feel this ease?" And once you know from your experience that you can feel better, move better, communicate better (with yourself too), you will be more prone to tune into the body-mind signals and needs...

True. But once you make great progress (fast or slow) that can trick you into thinking that you are done...but you probably aren't, which is completely ok, you will have to pay attention further on, but it will be rewarding... I'm so glad that I found this channel! So grateful!

Whoaaaa I can relate to MANY of Jerika’s symptoms of dysregulation. I remember when my husband and I first got married and we joined together as a blended family with 4 teenage kids. I would legit shake and sweat when dinner time rolled around. The thought of cooking and eating together as a family was HIGHLY stressful. At the time I didn’t understand why that was happening. I now know I have a lot of trauma around food and gathering together to eat. I also fell back into addictions shortly after getting married after being sober for 5.5 years. I drank heavily for 3 years. It got really bad. I’ve been sober now for 2.5 years. I’m still quite dysregulated. I hide in my bedroom a lot and tell everyone I’m an introvert… but really I’m just dysregulated. I’m hoping to try your work out soon Irene.

Its so validating what you said about breathwork. I had really magical thinking about it from information presented online, and had a session a week a go that threw me off the deep end. I had just overcome a 9 year ED, then my system got so re-triggered/traumatized that I've found myself compulsively using those old behaviors just to cope day to day after I'd truly felt I was re-covered. The practitioner even said post session that they observed my system getting overwhelmed/unhealthily flooded. I wish people were more responsible with this stuff.

I loved hearing the way Jerika talked about her job. She describes how much she likes it partly because of the sensory experiences she has there. It sounds like she’s in her element and thriving. I think she might end up doing something where she’s helping people with their trauma, but I hope it doesn’t involve being on the computer endlessly and not doing the hands-on work that seems to help her thrive.

Thank you Irene for listening so attentively. I love that you placed yourself in the learning side. I don’t know … I felt the love and healing between the dynamic of you two . Hi Irene, I have done your course several times over the past 3 years and I can recommend it. For me it has been a slow process. I am still working hard at self-regulation and increased embodiment (which I finally figured out are pretty much the same thing!). That said, my overall reaction to this video was negative. To me, if came off as a kind of "infomercial" by someone I didn't find credible. I personally think that to have someone who has hopped from modality to modality, gushing over a quick, almost miracle "cure," in fact, hurts your brand. Please carry on your good work. I appreciate what you, Seth, and your team do.

Oh we need to all do a panel on this that's beautiful because I was thinking the same thing all of these labels have really messed us up right I think they definitely did not help me and I was also doing the healing work and all of this in isolation and finally I was like no I really need to get myself so when this happened to me like it did for her wow it taught us lessons and it also made me realize that I need to get myself out there and help others and just passed all my experiences and hope that it can help and I'm just so grateful that I found both of you! I mean these connections are that's the one thing that I'm kind of curious as to how people are just running to these people or signing up for these dollar things I mean it's just unbelievable thinking cuz we all have it in a purpose and we can all help each other it's really not about that and I mean yes we have to make a living but I mean it's gotten to the point of ridiculousness and usually if we really go with him you can tell if it doesn't definitely listen to that

I can relate to her so much! Okay oh that's awesome that she's talking about eating because that's I mean we all have advice or an addiction we're human right and I am recovering addict and have been in that so I can probably help her with that that's amazing and now she feels that she feels full that is so cool so yeah she's definitely balancing out and that's aa beautiful thing but I've learned things that I could probably you know little things that are just tricks that I could probably help her with with that and that's pretty cool not eating necessarily but maybe she can help me with that eating more cuz I'm trying to gain weight I'm just tall like my dad and you know I just I don't know I have a a very high metabolism so my doctor says or I haven't been in quite a while to a regular doctor I mean Lord I hear I am telling you my whole life story what I've done what's been happening in the last few months but I mean I feel like it's powerful and I need to give a back story but the rest that's kind of personal I will definitely email you all thank you so much again I can't I can't thank you enough honestly what a beautiful beautiful way to lay back down

Hi @EvgeniiaDolinenko. Seth here with Team Lyon. yes, the body knows! There can be to much of even a good thing - for a system that has lived with trauma it is still new information and stimulus. Also, the holding patterns in our body are there for a reason, usually in the case of trauma they are part of what is helping the various survival charges packed up, so paradoxically, inviting them to notice safety and care may feel scary, because that could lead to letting those charges out of their box. This is why titration - the notion of doing a drop of work at a time - is fundamental in all our teaching.

Very interesting interview, it really motivated me, that i can heal my nervesystem and my body has taken a toll, because of all the losses and trauma in my life. I'm alone with my teenage son, and for now i can't afford the SBSM. Are some of the free resources useful, to start rewiring our nervous system and heal our trauma?

Hello, Sophia with Team Lyon here. Yes, our free resources are really popular and you might see that some comments on here mention they've seen improvements just by working with Irene's extensive free resources. You can find them all here: irenelyon.com/free-resources/ We highly recomment the "Healing Trauma" mini-training, as it's a great way to get started with this work. Apart from SBSM, we offer the 21 Day Nervous System Tune Up, at $297 USD, as well as Irene's 1hr Drop-in classes, which can be attended live or purchase a replay at a much lower price point, affordable to many people. irenelyon.com/drop-in-class-1 I hope this helps!

Thanks for this conversation. I was reminded of the times when I received acupuncture and the first 15-20 minutes of the sessions my body trembled so much that the practitioner was very surprised and my husband who was sitting next to me was almost in shock. I thought the trembling was due to my enormous fear of needles, but now I see that this might have been due to the vagus nerve reaction. I wonder what Irene would say about this.

@sethlyon4064 5 ай бұрын
Hi Sunny, Seth here with Team Lyon. What you decribe has less to do with the vagus nerve and more to do with the Sympathetic nervous system. The kind of trembling you describe is often associated with sympathetic discharge - an old fight/flight charge workign its way out of the system. this is actually a good thing, as it is the body letting go of held stress, but if we, or the p[eople around us, don't know what is happening it can be scary, and we can become afraid of the experience and shut it down. This is why education is the bedrock of SBSM - once we understand what is happening, it is much easier to welcome these kinds of experiences.

@@sethlyon4064 Seth, thank you kindly for your reply. Every little bit of right information helps us who are dealing with such difficulties. I’m looking into enrolling into Irene’s 21 day program first, as I really cannot afford the SPSM yet, even if paid in installments. Thanks again.

I'm glad you brought that up I made I made her she's right beside this I made her do that one more time I love the way you brought up the oh she looks put together I'm telling you isn't it awful the way we do think that about we judge just as humans because we all think that because you can be articulate you can be saying these things and you can think that but you don't realize that there is so much stored in us and you can feel it and you wonder where did that come from and you're trying to and I guess that's just what is going on, I mean I had chronic fatigue I was literally diagnosed with fibromyalgia a slipped disc I had that leaving cone thing done with and everything and it could lead to cervical cancer it is all healed it is a beautiful thing the only thing right now is literally when I have my two boys back to back the calcium was all taken from me vomiting so it was like almost like an eating disorder right because I would brush my teeth right after and I was just putting that acid all over my teeth so luckily I just found out thatnow I do have stuff to work through because I am very hurt because people that I thought were my friends well they were acquaintances anyways and active addiction years ago they literally hacked got hacked got in identity theft my whole family it's a whole thing yes the police are involved everything is ended but it is still you have to make sure and clean up and you know cross those keys and got those eyes and make sure it never are promoting all these things and I have two blessings in my life that are geniuses with computers and you know if you want to call them I don't call I'm not with all that the White House whatever but the good thing you know and they can help and see this stuff and that's amazing to have that in my family so but it does hurt to find out that that happened to me when I would give the shirt off my back. So I'm really having to deal with a lot of that and I don't want to start my channel or do any of that because until I know that everything is safe and secure because I mean no offense but I don't want to get my ideas away or any of because it has been taken I have probably so many channels and so many I do Google and emails it's it's not even funny so it's really hurt me and they also used my social and my mother's social and all this and yes I'm not even kidding with the government you know Medicare I mean it's insane and actually got their teeth done I mean several people it's unbelievable and then when I go in these offices I just say ask a question in a very nice and calm about it and they're like oh my goodness and thank the Lord the one dental office I went to my aunt work there for 33 years and I mean well hello and behold I mean thank God a master artistry I want just my regular teeth and just I want him back and I'm missing them so that's really what I'm working on with the confidence and that's really hurting my confidence but I do want to show other people the process and how you can do social media and be okay because really beauty is on the inside and I know that sounds so true

Would you say something like Craniosacral Therapy could also be a sort of bypassing the slower self work? I am having a lot of anxiety whilst learning craniosacral these past 6 months, but I thought that it would get better one through exposure, two through me being confident setting boundaries / prioritising myself feeling safe when giving and receiving treatments.

Hi, Irene thanks so much for this. I have a question though: Did Jerika work on it alone or with a private therapist? That is a great timeline to feel this much change in. I have like her been in different types of therapies for about 6 years now of which 4 years have been with a therapist who works with me on somatic experiencing and nervous system and I am no where close to feeling like this. Is it the therapist or is it because I am missing some piece or is it just that slow?
@sethlyon4064
@sethlyon4064 5 ай бұрын
Hi Jayatigupta1155, Seth here with Team Lyon. Everyone is different when it comes to the pace at which their system can accept and integrate change, even positive change. Jerika was not working with a therapist when she was doing this work as far as we know - she never mentioned doing so to us. However, she is young, and she has a very safe home life with a supportive partner - these factors aare very influential. So it's hard to say for sure what may be happenign for you - it could be that you just need a slow pace - it took me about 7 years of consistent work to become regulated. Or it could be factors in your home or work life need to be addressed - safety is key! Or, it could be that you would benefit from the additional learning and tools that we provide in SBSM.

Hi there. Just thought to share my experience which is also very different. As Seth mentioned and as I've also now discovered that the right support is probably more efficient than the work itself. I found Irene's channel 2019 and been practising the nervous system stuff as a lifestyle ever since. 2,5 years ago I started SE therapy and after one year I suddenly started having panic attacks and extreme fear of dying and I almost lost ability to function at all. For the first time in my life I had to rely on meds to not losing my mind completely. That changed my life to worse than ever before. I still struggle with what happened. Irene don't differ from the general Western style of sharing just the success stories which don't give you the full picture. It can also trigger unnecessary shame to the people who doesn't succeed with the process. I hope all the best for you and that you find a support and safety to feel better.

That was a great video. I have a question about cannabis. If each time a person used a small amount of weed, the person then has very high anxiety, paranoia and a bad headache. Is the cannabis likely revealing a disregulated nervous system in the person?. For argument sake the weed is same strength (they use a very tiny amount) each time and the environment stays the same. Maybe for some it just amplifies hidden unresolved trauma rather than numbing them out? What do others think?

Would it be recommended that people who are learning/practising SBSM and trauma healing forms groups for sharing, like zoom hangouts etc?

Hello, Sophia from Team Lyon here. Humans are designed to heal in community, so having a supportive environment is important for healing. Both SBSM and the 21 Day Nervous System Tune up offer a private members' area, where you can interact with your peers, as well as be supported by our specially trained team of moderators who can answer your questions. I hope this helps!

I don't know if i'm making any progress...can't afford your 21 days programme....could You tell me how many months do we need to do somátic work until we see results? Can we do it alone, by outselves and online? I know this isnt Magic but would appreciate some guidance. Thanks you

Hello, Sophia with Team Lyon here. As each person is different, we can't say what their individual timeline will look like. Depending on one's unique background and needs, healing may take longer or happen sooner. It is possible to do this work with guidance, remotely and online, apart from working face-to-face with a practitioner, as proven by Irene's work bringing this type of healing online. I hope this helps offer some clarity

I am so sorry that there are so many run-on sentences yes I can actually write books I guess my mother is actually her her majors are in English I mean it's hilarious but I'm actually cleaning up right now I feel and I have speech to text and I don't know I'm talking across the room that I certainly apologize but here I go again what trying to prove myself I just really have gotten over that but I never want to come across as rude or like she said or like I never wanted to come across that I was preaching to anyone when I start my channel or start helping people or anything so it was like I was trying to do everything in one day and or like that it needed to be perfect and we're going to work nothing is perfect right everything and it's okay it's just the way it is and the way society the way a lot of us were brought up and that's just how we have stored so many things that we really did not know how much. oh that's interesting about the diaphragm that China is what I feel like what happened to me but I don't know but that is interesting a friend of mine had told me that she thought that's what was going on with me with the diaphragm and it has been a lot better I don't know when this happens she said it was very recent I'm not sure. What a beautiful soul she is and I mean amazing that I can talk to you I need to really work on my ADD and I am it's just I literally want to I get so excited and I have to pause so many times and it's just it's it's a discipline and it's it's a it's a beautiful thing though and you know I have to remind nobody's in competition this is not a race and we're always growing and that's the beautiful thing about it and learning so thank you all this is a beautiful beautiful once again video and I'm so grateful to come across this and I think it was not even this long ago and I have learned so much and it's a beautiful thing I just wish more people would come across things like that and just not hang on one thing and just whatever resonates with certain people take what resonates with them and leave the rest and then you know what they feel and believe in themselves and that's taking me a long time to gain that confidence and I think that's just how we or maybe that's an assumption but I do think we all kind of grew up that way and society is just the culture I mean we were just sometimes I know I sure grew up like that and it's just it's a lot to go through.
