I think TMS is simply anxiety expressing itself physically through the body. This story is very helpful to me, have had every symptom she mentioned and more. Amazing what the brain can do. Excellent video, thank you!

Yes, fear of symptoms keeps the symptoms manifesting in the body, TMS is anxiety.

I hadn't seen someone say this but I've been thinking it a lot. For a long time I thought of my TMS and my anxiety as two different problems, but TMS is just anxiety symptoms.

I think you're right in most cases. However, with Covid as in this case there was a genuine fear of something quite real --- a worldwide pandemic worse than anything since the flu of 1918-20. The fear was quite real, whereas anxiety is fear for no reason of something safe. No-one could feel completely safe with Covid, so the fear often became trapped in the body. Only if fully felt, expressed, and processed could people deal with such an overwhelming example of the world becoming truly unsafe for a time.

Absolutely LOVE this ❤ I overcame a 7 year anxiety disorder by using the techniques from books such as DARE and At Last A Life by Paul David. I lived a life free from anxiety for 6 years before getting Covid, which has ended up with me having Long Covid for over 2 years now. Your symptoms were almost exactly the same as the ones I have. I'm currently 4 weeks away from giving birth and my pregnancy has been rough to say the least, but when my baby is born, I will be embarking upon my commitment to my recovery journey. Thanks so much for sharing this inspiring story ❤

Struggling for too many years to count but really in a bad place at the moment... I cried listening to this. Have just bought the audio version of the book DARE that was mentioned. Thank you for your experience. I relate very much with your story. Crazy stuff. I was reading TMS book by E. Sarno and the main focus is anger. But in my case I instinctly knew that fear was a bigger driver. And this conversation highlighted that. Anger is a better place to be than fear. I find anger a great motivator also. And source of good energy. It's not anger against the world, but anger towards getting better and doing the right things.

It’s the third time over the course of my life I experience this condition. This time it’s LC ( the virus was the cherry on the cake). All of the times it was triggered by extreme (health) anxiety. I really wonder why it hasn’t been taken into serious account by the health care system and treat it gracefully as a mental health condition by applying mind body or other similar interventions… Great interview and so relatable ❤

You’re story and symptoms are so much like mine. I also catastrophize all symptoms because I have health anxiety due to a childhood medical trauma. But instead of long haul Covid, I’m going through benzodiazapine withdrawal/tapering. I, too, am unable to walk due to fears and lack of safety issues. I actually thought I was dying while walking in an area where I couldn’t see my house from. I can walk as long as I can see my house, but not more than that. I also have POTS and about 20 other health issues. I’m often practically bed ridden and housebound. I actually think I’m now agoraphobic due to the terror of C@v!d. Jim, I’m wondering if you have helped anyone who is tapering off benzos?
