They are northern plants, so anybody in the south can place them on their northern and shady side of hill or house. Here in the Pacific NW, blueberries hang along the forest line with shady and sunny portions during the day. Use moist soft, swampy, acidic ph soil, vs huckleberries in the mountains with rocky and dry soil. Even southerners can get some blueberries.

Well done video. I would add one more precaution particularly for seniors. Blueberries are high in purines, and can contribute to hyperuricemia (gout). I know because I have a dozen blueberry bushes and couple of years ago I froze my crop and I was eating at least half a cup a day. After a few weeks I came down with a bout of gout, and it ain't fun!

Great job thank you!! I recently discovered TJ’s has a good frozen/ wild product in my opinion. Related, matcha green tea packs a huge ORAC punch. Just be careful of quantities, especially of green tea “extract.” Can be harmful. Not a dr., these are my opinions. Enjoy!

Blueberries, when they are good, are incredible. They're nicely tart. It's hard to get good ones fresh, though. A lot of times they come in overripe, due to excessive heat and/or moisture after they're harvested. I've actually written to Driscoll's and complained that their berries were consistently mushy and overripe, and they basically said this was due to weather conditions and/or vendor storage conditions. It's too bad. Fresh, firm, tart blueberries are amazing. Same with blackberries. It's just a shame one cannot rely on them when buying fresh.

Question: is the term 'wild' indicating that they are wildcrafted and basically organic, or is 'wild' just part of the name that distinguishes it from the cultivated species? In other words, can wild blueberries always be considered organic, or can they be farmed with chemicals like the cultivated kind?

That's an excellent question, and honestly we're not sure the answer!

@@SuperfoodEvolution If it is just part of the species name, it will fool a lot of people into thinking it is 'grown' wild without chemicals. If you find the answer, please post.

Wild as they are not planted, but are seeded into fields by birds eating berries in the surrounding forest. The wild type are much shorter (often 4-6") and they are managed differently. The cultivated are sprayed a lot more than than the wild variety. They are not always considered organic, but will have fewer residues.

@@lenm2857 I found that out by contacting Wymans, and they admitted they do use chemicals on their wild blueberries. Maybe less so, but enough to not consider them organic. The term 'wild' conjures up the notion that they are wild crafted, but in fact wild is just part of the name, and really should be renamed. Otherwise, we could literally take anything that is wild, cultivate it and use chemicals on it, while saying that it is a 'wild' variety, creating the illusion that it is grown organically in the wild.

I have read that Frozen Blueberries are more nutrient dense than fresh... You didn't mention that in the video, so I don't know if it's factual... Thanks :-)

Wild ones are only available fresh a couple of months a year (late July-early Sept,), but are available frozen year round in most places.
