Our buddy, Bruce Nelson brought over a couple of Marshall combos from 1978 to have Steve give the once-over . In this video we look at the 2104 50w combo!

clunk clunk, I love it. I always feel like tube amps are so fragile even though I've dropped, banged and tripped over all of mine.

Hope all is well. I could only hope that my tech doesn't handle my amp chassis like an old Chevy engine block

Cool , me and Fryette use the exact same chassis stand ! Lol

Where's the 100? I was so excited to see what was going to happen. I cannot get enough of Steve's thoughts & his processes. Anyways thank you so much for this little nugget. Another wonderful production.

Damn. Good thing this guy isn’t a dentist! 😂 Those knobs are hard to find.. 😅 Check resistance on the power chord. The prongs get loose sometimes.

I had a buddy in Kzoo with a ‘78 Fawn 50 Watt half-stack. It had a great sound.

Yep, that one was set up for 6550's. On the board you can see 150k ohm power tube grid leak resistors. EL34's would have had 220k. Very cool amp, and great info fellas!

These videos are so cool- I learn something new every time I watch.👍🏻 Side note: Small dig at Mesa @ 29:52?…🤣 I wonder where the GEQ is located in the circuit on the Pitbull Ultra Lead? 🤔

I didn’t know about the concerns of powering up an amp after many years. I always just turned them on. I have a few amps that haven’t been turned on in 5 or more years, what is the procedure?
@jutukka Жыл бұрын
There is g2, aka a screen (and g3 if the output tube is not equipped with a beam forming plate instead of suppressor grid g3) between the g1 and plate.

Do you have to have a load on an amp when measuring voltages? Or does it not matter, as long as you aren't actually playing it / sending any input signal?
@FryetteAmps Жыл бұрын
Depends. If measuring voltages at no load, then no load. If measuring at load, then load.
@odgeUK Жыл бұрын
@@FryetteAmps Ah cool. So no harm to the transformers if the amp is on with no load (nothing connected to speaker out) and you’re just measuring in the circuit?
@johngormus5855 Жыл бұрын
Steve’s tapping on the tubes and capacitors was in perfect tempo. Must have been a drummer at some point.

Well, you don't need oscilloscope to measure the AC ripple riding on the B+ DC voltage, only a DMM at AC voltage range, unless you really want to see the waveform of the ripple for some reason.
@conjering11 ай бұрын
Question, I noticed you constantly disconnect the speaker cable while the amp on, doesn't that cause stress to the OT and tubes ?
@FryetteAmps11 ай бұрын
Not at all. This is the problem with "internet experts". They say things that are untethered to facts and those things spread until they're impossible to undo. This is a perfect example. Thanks for the question though. We think the subject might be worth a video.

@@vadenk4433 The Psionic guy is welcome to bring his POV to the conversation directly. Meanwhile, until you’re able to differentiate between the operation of the power and output transformers, and articulate exactly when and why a “$3 capacitor” might enter the conversation, you may not be ready to effectively debate this topic. But on the off chance you may have a legit point, we look forward to your detailed video on the subject.
