It would be interesting to see some videos of typical repairs/service done on Fryette gear. Also, I never get the impression that Steve is all that fond of Marshalls. Kudos to waging the war against "Big Cap"! :)

My first Marshall was a 2100 chassis with 6550's I bought for $150 in 1985. Built a plywood head cabinet for it using the logo from my Lead 12 😹🎸

Hi, with PS-2A, can I put the master volume to 10 of a marshall jcm800 2203 100watt? Thank you.
@FryetteAmps
@FryetteAmps Жыл бұрын
You sure can. However, make sure you allow the amp some cooling time after blasting a while. You don't want to excessively overheat your output transformer.

Do you guys still make the back plate for the ultra lead? Lost mine and I need something to cover the back + a front faceplate too. :(

You have any experience with the Marshall 2150 combo ? Your thoughts on it compared to this 2103 or a 2203 ?
@FryetteAmps
@FryetteAmps Жыл бұрын
Yes. It’s basically a 6550 fitted JMP in a more compact chassis. It’s a great platform for modification. They do tend to have a low plate voltage, a condition that can be corrected with a good quality aftermarket power transformer and installation of EL34s.

@@FryetteAmps yeah I have one of these that's"Def Leppard" bright in a good way, my favorite 100 watt Marshall, does have the 4/8 ohm impedence selection, disconnected the master volume so it operates like a 1959

Doesn't the electrolyte dry u after a certain number of years? How can a cop be reformed if the chemical inside has dried up?
@FryetteAmps
@FryetteAmps Жыл бұрын
It’s a common, and mistaken assumption that an electrolytic capacitor is built like a car battery with a liquid electrolyte that can evaporate over time. The electrolyte in aluminum electrolytics is a paste or chemical compound impregnated into paper or some other substrate in a sealed enclosure. As long as the capacitor is in regular, continuous operation, and the seal remains, the oxides in the electrolyte will remain stable over a very long period. If the capacitor remains unused for a long period, the oxides will break down into their basic elements. This breakdown can be reversed by the reforming process, which when done properly will restore the electrolyte. The real killer of electrolytics is long periods of non-operation, aging and deterioration of the seal and excess voltage, current or heat over an extended period of time. Excess voltage and current are rare. Non-operation is more common and can be addressed using reforming. The point of this video (and all related videos) is to show that in a large percentage of cases, the capacitors can be accurately measured, evaluated, and reformed if necessary. Replacement should take place only when it can be amply demonstrated/measured defective by testing, not discarded by assumption only of an incorrectly applied arbitrary passage of time.

@@FryetteAmps Thank you for taking time for this excellent reply. Over the years I have had the chance to play many different amps. But three stand out. A Brownface Fender Concert with a killer harmonic tremolo, a Soldano SLO 100, and a VHT three channel Pitbull from when you owned VHT. The Pitbull just knocked my sock off. Unfortunately I could not afford it at the time. I still remember how great it was.

@@FryetteAmps sorry no...I stopped watching him over a month ago (just a bit too smug for me),but I keep KZfaq on at night and I woke up to one of his rants about how wrong you were about reforming caps (and it wasn't the first time I've heard him knock you and other very experienced and talented techs)... he's got a ton of content now,so I wouldn't even know where to look...I think he's gonna turn a lot of people off with that crap...I'm done for sure

@@rickya3877 Lyle points out flaws. As he says, "it's literally his job". If you think his information is incorrect he might be open to debate, but you shouldn't be talking trash about his opinions unless you can back that up. Do you have the knowledge and experience to prove him wrong?
