There are SO many different jobs in healthcare people don't know exist. Today I'll talk about 2 healthcare administration jobs I have some experience with! Non clinical medical careers are great med school alternatives if you want to have an impact in healthcare - ENJOY :)

► My favorite personal finance/investing books: amzn.to/31YlGnR
► AHIMA Accredited Schools: www.cahiim.org/programs/progr...
► 6 Figure Healthcare Careers No One Talk about: • 6 Figure Healthcare Ca...
► How to get an Internship: • How To Get A Full-Time...
To go to med school you have to go into thousands of debt and miss out on years of income, many people regret that decision. This is my series on healthcare jobs with the least schooling.
Two healthcare management jobs are quality improvement and health information management jobs:
Quality improvement is one of the top healthcare administration jobs, because it offers a good balance between non clinical medical careers and interaction with patients. You are responsible for making for making sure the hospital is operating safely and effectively. As a quality improvement specialist at a hospital you will work very closely with patients, doctors, and other healthcare administrators to solve problems.
To become a healthcare quality improvement specialist, you need a bachelor of science in health administration, health information management, or another degree that teaches you about the business side of healthcare. You also need to get a CPHQ certification.
Health information Management Jobs are set to grow 20% and it is one of the top healthcare jobs in demand. It is one of my favorite med school alternatives because there are so many options, you can become a data analyst at a hospital, work for the center for Medicare Medicaid Services, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, or go into healthcare consulting.
TO go into Health information Management You need to get a degree in Health Information Management as well as a RHIA, or certification as a registered health information administrator. You school should also be accredited by AHIMA.

I have my bachelors in health administration and I’m 3 classes away from completing my MHA with a focus in operations!! I can’t wait to be done! I’ve worked plenty exciting positions in health administration so far and I would love to be a mentor to a young lady because I wish I had someone to help guide and educate me in my younger years! It’s a great field to go into!

chellyvino I think it depends on how you approach it. There are challenging courses but the further you get the more things tie together and start to make more sense. Keeping you eye on the prize is key and also take advantage of any and all opportunities to help you learn and build your resume. I currently serve on a board of directors for a healthcare center that I worked for and that experience alone has truly helped me understand the behind the scenes importance and what goes on in those board room meetings.

Kendilatay Hello! am interested in going for MHA but I don’t know which accreditation to look for in the school am applying to. I don’t want to finish and be like your school is not accredited for that program. please help.
@Kendilatay
@Kendilatay 3 жыл бұрын
Fort Succ Hey! I completely understand and that was a pretty big deal to me as well! Make sure to do your research because no one wants to get a degree that is not accredited. If you are planning to go the online route look for programs that are REGIONALLY accredited. National accredited programs are not typically as respected as regional accreditation. Also when transferring credits national accredited schools will take credits from regionally accredited schools but there are usually problems with regionally accredited schools accepting national accredited credits. Also make sure that your program is accredited by the U.S department of education and the higher learning commission. ( regional accredited, higher learning commission and recognized by the U.S department of education) I hope this helps❤️

decided to watch this because i'm currently in school to become RHIT. on the first day, we all went around (remote of course) and said why we wanted to do this type of job. everyone said because they want to help people but do not necessarily want to become a doctor or a nurse. i was honest about my response, I don't like direct patient care. it's OK in short amounts but can be very draining mentally and emotionally. as most people who are empathetic are drawn to it but people are draining. everyone has a story. i much rather make their lives easier by working with them to resolve problems.

Super interesting seeing people's comments regarding their bachelor or masters in health administration! Personally, I got a job in health administration, with a BA (psychology major) and clinical work experience! I know some people who had no clinical experience or no degree and now work in health administration. It seems like there's a large difference in pre-requisites in America versus where I'm from (Australia).

@@samsal6378 Hey I work as a health administration officer AO3 (Australia). You have stressful days or times just like any job you have but it depends on what you do. i have worked in a few different areas - Mental health, Emergency and in the wards in the hospital (which is what i'm doing now) and I don't find it any more stressful then other jobs you may have. Also the 9 to 5 thing depends on what position you hold. I work in the wards in the hospital and don't work weekends and only during the week which is 7:30am to 4pm. I think you get a good work life balance too.
@healthadmin-kyliebarnes3562

I work as an AO3 in QHealth and I got into health administration 7 years ago and, no in Australia you don't need any degree or need to have any courses to get into this profession as it's all on the job learning. They do however look to see what work you previously did or if you are studying at Uni to make sure you can handle the work load etc. :) It definitely seems on the people in the US ho have commented on my videos that they seem to have to do a degree in order to get into health Administration.
@divatashi
@divatashi 3 жыл бұрын
@@samsal6378 sorry just saw this! From my experience and my colleagues’, the responsibilities in health administration roles differ depending on what your department requires. Some health administrators work directly in the wards, while others are in the administration departments of hospitals (more secretarial, training staff support). I don’t find it stressful, it’s interesting as administration means your role can differ day to day! Hours depend on ur contract. Some ppl are part time, casual or full time :)

I fell like these healthcare management degrees get your foot in the door but it doesn't guarantee you you a managerial position as opposed to other careers that offer you a set salary right out of college. Most likely you will have to compete with others to get management position and even it isn't guaranteed.

I’ve been told that it is good to start looking for some entry level positions while in college to get my foot in the door of healthcare. Would you say phlebotomy is good or do you suggest something more like a patient services rep? I’m just curious to know if I should be looking for something that is somewhat more similar to the duties of a health administrator (meaning something that requires the use of similar skills.. for example data entry etc) instead of something that deals with patients directly. Or, is either one fine? I just want to make sure that when it comes time to put these jobs on my resume neither one will hinder me from any future opportunities (due to me lacking certain skills that a future employer would be looking for). Sorry if this is somewhat confusing or unclear. If you need me to elaborate further I will.

I have a bachelors in dental hygiene with 4 years of experience in this field only. I am looking to do a masters in health admin because I don't want to do clinical anymore. I'm wondering how the job outlook is for this profession and would my clinical background in dental hygiene help me with getting a position in healthcare admin/management?

I am RHIT certified with A.S. in HIM but also have a B.S. in a non healthcare related field that I received prior to getting my associates. I am really thinking about getting my masters in healthcare administration online while I work as a coder. Would you recommend the MHA or should I consider a masters in HIM? I don't see myself being a coder for the long term and would like to explore new avenues.

After completing my BBA, i was depressed for choosing my further career and finally got to know that i can do my MBA in hospital and healthcare management. I researched a lot about this field in terms of growth opportunities and professional work, after covid, health industry is growing at a rapid pace and in my country that is india it is booming now. So i decided to go for it. Currently im just 2 two months away from my MBA hospital and healthcare, during my studies i have done multiple internships at hospitals now i am very much intrested to start working with hospitals. It feels great to work in hospital without having MBBS degree in hand 🤣

Hey, Income over Outcome! I apologize beforehand, I recently found your videos so I can't really gauge what you're channel is really about yet. I think I'm interested, but when I look online to research, there isn't much to go on except for attending meetings or more mundane day-to-day things, which I'm sure play an important part. Do you have any more videos on Healthcare administration? I think that the salary is talked about quite often, but I'm more interested in learning more about the business aspect, which I'd say I don't have any experience in before I transfer colleges. Could you share your school experiences, or should I consider emailing my professors before I choose this major?

I enjoy your videos as it's very insightful. I'm transitioning from the clinical to the non-clinical side of healthcare and I'm currently in the 2nd year of my MHA program. I'm kind of stuck on which area of concentration to really focus on (PM, HIM, QI). My current concertation is Project management which is yet to begin. The challenge here is that I need to get an internship in areas that will greatly benefit me after graduation, but I don't know which areas to search. Please could you advise me on the best area of concentration and which internship jobs to search for? Am really interested in getting to the peak of healthcare administration as an Executive for effective policy making.

If you're trying to get your foot in the door, I would say look into departments like patient financial services (PFS) or scheduling. They usually have entry level positions. Also, try being an intern for a healthcare organization. If you do a good job you should be on the top of their list for hiring. Good Luck!

Hey I really am glad I found your channel! Im 24 years old looking to go to school. I just got out of the Air Force and now I am a Wind technician making 55k a year but I just don’t want to climb towers for the rest of my life so I am wanting to get into the healthcare sector. The thing is I have to complete all my schooling online so I can keep my current job because I have bills to pay. Healthcare administration is something I am really interested in but you talk so highly about HIM. Is a bachelors degree for HIM something I can get completely online like Healthcare administration? Also, if you don’t mind could you tell me in your opinion what schools you think are the best for these programs?

In most cases its not just degree and , you do not need to have your CPHQ to land a job in Quality at a hospital. Usually it takes a minimum of two to three years healthcare working experience,plus your degree. The CPHQ does give you a better advantage, however its not an initial requirement depending on where you live

Plus salary is way higher than $60,000.00, unless your entry level with no healthcare experience at all, but in most cases that's still kind of low and no, Directors of health quality make more than $120,000.00 before tax, depending on the type of hospital, the number of staff you would have oversight of, and the trauma level based hospital it is on top of that, If they have other credentials and have worked in a related field that they have assisted in the provision of compliance and quality assurance, or the person was enlisted into quality from their Nursing background.
