I also chose a midwife versus an OB because the OBs didn’t feel personal. It just felt like they were trying to keep their schedule. My midwife was the best and I still think about how awesome and thankful I was to have her.

That’s exactly how I was for a couple of years! I couldn’t stop myself from watching videos like this even though hubby and I weren’t ready yet for babies. Glad I’m not the only one lol but now we’re expecting our first in a month and hopefully it’ll go as smoothly as hers since I, too, am going the natural/unmedicated route with a midwife. I feel like all of these videos have truly helped me prepare my mind... I mean also books similar to this have too so if you want to be a mama one day you already have a heads start!

Back in 1981, I had my first daughter. I had a loving husband, a great medical team but absolutely no knowledge of meds or ways to alleviate pain - it was all me and my darling Dana who was birthed unmedicated. Here we are in the 21st century and there are so many more opportunities for you young mama’s to make some decisions that we didn’t have in the olden days. Love your videos Nikole - you put a lot of great information out there for those ladies who need it. ❤️

And yes, I did noticed that since I announced that I am pregnant (18 weeks now), most of the mothers around me tend to project their past fears and crazy stories on me, and honestly I can't understand why do they do this. Thank you for this video! I'm due in May with my first and plan to try an unmedicated birth, like you open to an epidural if I need it. How did you deal with masks in terms of breathing through pain? My hospital recommends masks for birthing (but they said they don't enforce them).
@HealthNutNutrition
@HealthNutNutrition 3 жыл бұрын
I think I had a mask on going into the hospital but I didnt through labour as things just got intense fast. Matt and the midwives all had masks on but I honestly think it's insane to try and have a mom pushing a baby out with no mask and no drugs.. I felt like I was doing the hardest workout of my life and I needed as much oxygen as I could get! If you can wear it but I personally was more focused on just getting through labour and getting sage out than the piece of fabric on my face. I think I must have torn it off as soon as I got onto the bed lol

My appointments with my OB team are a minimum of 45 mins. And my OBs seem open-minded. They do work closely with a midwifery but are not midwives themselves. I am thinking of switching over to the midwifery since (so far) I am a low-risk pregnancy. But I’m going to get my glucose tested next appointment and have that convo with my OB.

Hi!!! I’m due in 10 days with my first baby. I live in the USA in PA. I REALLY wanted a midwife and doula, my insurance doesn’t cover it and i didn’t have the money for it. I also felt like the different OBGYN doctors I saw were so impersonal- 2 doctors i seen for the first time literally saw me for 2-3 min. During my 36 week I was told i was getting checked to see if I was dilated; I said “what? I was never told previously about being checked”. I was checked by a obgyn i just met- i didn’t like her vibe. I was also told that any obgyn can deliver my baby. I don’t want someone that hasn’t really spent time with me or brush me off to deliver my baby girl. I tried to talk to one doctor about my birth plan. She didn’t even look at it. She said she knows about natural births, but keep an open mind for a C-section and other things.. i felt not heard. I cried during that appointment When i saw the obgyn that I started with she was kind enough to look over my birth plan and give me feedback. I grew up In the suburbs- that hospital is supposed to be one of the best VS the ones in the city by me are TERRIBLE. I’m hoping my next pregnancy I will be able to have a midwife/doula. Even reaching out to them they were so kind and took the time to hear me and give advice. (I’m a babyfaced mom. I’m 33 going on 34 in 4 months. If anyone sees or hears me thinks I’m so much younger)

Unfortunatelly, where I am, we don't have the midwife option....and now, due to COVID, my husband is not allowed in the hospital.....I had my OBGYN but she gave birth last month when I had to switch to another OBGYN, one that was available in the hospital....this is my 1st, at 41yo, after 3 miscarriages....I am so anxious and scared of the labor, the level of pain, being there without any member of my family....39 weeks today. I wanted to go with a midwife with my first pregnancy but there was a wait list here in Canada so unfortunately I couldnt go with one, I had to go with an OB who I wasnt happy with since they missed my glucose test at 28 weeks and I didn't get it until i was 35 weeks pregnant. I gave birth at 39 weeks. Because I had Gestational Diabetes I had to be induced which was not fun at all. This time around so far I was tested at 23 weeks thank god for this OB who was the one who gave birth to my son since he was on call when I was induced. But because of that I thought it was safer for me to go with an OB again since the midwife wait list here in Canada is a long wait. He is truly an amazing guy and I'm happy i decided to go with someone with more knowledge. My first OB was female and I did not like her at all. She seemed very busy and didnt really care. This second one is the best.

I saw on your birth plan that you said no to eye drops. Can you please elaborate?
@jenlotus17
@jenlotus17 3 жыл бұрын
Only really need it of you or partner has certain STDs [gonorrhea, chlamydia] because it can cause blindness to baby but the antibiotics eye ointment can prevent this. But if you know you and your partner don't have these issues then it is unnecessary but the hospitals give it out as routine [they look at it as an easy thing that can prevent something serious + also sometimes partners have cheated and aren't aware they carry these stds]

I had a midwife for my pregnancy and no one mentioned to me about perineum stretching until like I was in labour/after birth lol I was so annoyed because I did tear and I think it may have helped if I did stretch
@HealthNutNutrition
@HealthNutNutrition 3 жыл бұрын
Its one of those things thats not proven but I had so many people recommend it I thought why not! I mean it makes total sense.. stretch out the area that is going to HAVE TO stretch for baby's head. Maybe for your next pregnancy you can try it out and compare. I agree though that this information should be known and thats why Im so passionate about talking about these things I did because I know not everyone is told about them.

love the video but had to laugh at the reference to "OHIP" being healthcare in Canada.... OHIP is ONTARIO Health Insurance Plan which is not the same (though functions mostly similar) to that of other provinces

First I'd like to say thank you for this video. Definitely gave me really good information and tips I didn't know and will be using. I'm due November 9th, so only a few more months left. I'm very scared because I went into this thinking I'd request a c section, I looked it up and everything I read said you can but recently people been telling me I can't. I will talk to my OB tomorrow about it. But I haven't been preparing myself for giving birth from my vagina so that worries me. I know women give birth everyday but I'm terrified. I watched your birthing video in the beginning of my pregnancy and I passed out from seeing you in pain, hearing it in your voice, thinking that will be me very soon. I know my body can do it but mentally I cannot. I know mentality going through this or anything is very important and can actually have a very positive or negative impact on things, but that just makes me more scared. I have anxiety in general, but pregnancy has always been at the top of my list of fears. I am excited and cannot wait to have my baby, but I am just very scared. I think about it and panic, I cried now watching this just thinking about contractions. Ugh, bless you and all mother's, very strong women.

Births in UK are usually midwife ones. At maternity wards in hospitals or birth centres, births are usually midwife ones and doctor called if higher risk pregnancy or nicu will be needed from what I understand. I've actually not given birth before, just from what I know from living in UK and watching birth documentaries and birth stories in UK. I find it kinda interesting and culture shock that in us people seem to have doctor births more. I think I'd prefer a midwife birth.

I hope that not all women have the same OB experience, i would really love to add, that i see two OBs (a "normal" one and a prenatal specialist one) working together and they both are...amazing and kind. I wish all were like that while my midwife experience was... well ok but not so great like the OB team is. we agreed that the prenatal care is for the OBs and after the baby will be born the midwife helps with breastfeeding and care. Its an accessibility problem here also, i can change OBs real quick and have a wiiide variety of them while...i had ONE midwife that had appointment space and that was even lucky. I do not really get to choose. So, dont get me wrong your experience is 100 percent valid and you did the best for you, i just hope not all the OBs are like that but i live in another country too and sometimes its also coincidence who you meet. We saw the baby boy in the ultrasound today real close and it was amazing, she explained where everything was and it was truly...moving.
