I think this is probably the most emotional song, or at least the one with most bitter longing and maybe even pain, that Heart has done. From the ones I've heard anyway.

I'm Japanese. In 1985, as a junior high school student, I realized that I was a rock band with a beautiful older sister. This (Secret) is a song I recently knew, but it became one of my favorite songs. Nancy is much older than me, but I fall in love with Nancy 20 years ago.

I was 14 when this song came out... Brilliant ballad that brings to me all the teenager's memories. The girl I loved, but never told her, time spent playing soccer or talking with my favourite mate, my home neighbourhood in southern Warsaw, Poland, and my country just on the way from the Eastern to the Western world. Life seemed so easy, music sounded so great and the sky was so blue then...

I know what you mean about the sky. Its always grey now. I remember I had a crush at school back in those days. I was too shy to ever tell him, totally the shy kid at school. I remember before moving this would be it at that school, and I wrote about my crush on the bathroom wall, because I just wanted to know his name. The bathroom wall was literally covered in messages. It took a few days, and I checked everyday and by day 4 or 5, someone actually answered and told me his name. Back then there were no cellphones, just washroom walls. So I wrote that I liked him and she said I should just tell him. I said I was too shy. She then said, at least tell what my name is so she could tell him for me before I moved. I thought about writing it, but didn't. Pretty sure I erased all the messages and we moved the next day. Even though its kind of sad, its somehow a good memory. It sounds like a silly story writing it out, but back then it was so real. Simpler times, simpler crushes, simpler everything really.

The world without cell phones - how different life it was then! "My" girl was a friend of mine, we spent much time together walking, talking and listening to the songs we both liked. So it was like in one of Phil Collins's songs: "There was always something more important to do, more important to say, but "I love you" wasn't one of those things and now it's too late…" Her name was Agnieszka, it's Agnes in Polish. Sometimes I think everybody's in the world got his own Agnieszka - just one or a few... :-)

It's fascinating: we live in two completely different countries, climates, cultures - but the memories of adolescent times that music brings to us ar so similar... :-) To be young and in love is one of the most wonderful things that could exist in the world - but we all know it very very much time later... Me and Agnieszka told eachother about it all 14 years after our last meeting, and realised we had both supposed, that another one had felt something too, but... oh, well, such is life! :-D

@@pbd2849 That's cool you got to tell her :) I wish I had that kind of courage. Its funny too because I feel like that was 4 lifetimes ago. So much has happened since. Yet I remember it all like it just happened, everything that was going on in my life back then. Now my life seems so strange and different. But I remember with such fondness those times gone past. Being young, reckless, and in love. I try to remember it all, because its once in a life time. Although life tends to have lots of one in a life times, so that's good :)

A classmate/friend lent me this cd in 8th grade. Then 2 years later I bought my own copy. At the same time I was obsessed with Marilyn Monroe and JFK and simultaneously listening to this song and reading a book about Marilyn. This song at the time and to this day makes me think of their alleged affair. So fitting, even if untrue.

this is never a simple love. it talks about a secret affair because it is forbidden. one of them is already married so they have to keep their relationship a secret otherwise they have to be separated... meaning there was no chance for them to be together😭
