I’ve been diagnosed with RA and Sjogren’s and have been on a biologic. Started feeling like I constantly have air bubbles in my throat and esophagus and I can hear it bubbling and if I’m lucky and can burp, I feel better. I rarely take pain meds and try not to take tums and even more rarely take a PPI since it causes osteoporosis, which I already have. Glad I found this video because I was beginning to think I had stomach cancer from taking the biologic.

You can have autoimmune atropic gastritis with rheumatoid arthritis and not produce enough acid. The food can sit in your stomach and ferment and come up your throat and is just like gerd feeling.

Wonderful information. I'll speak to my Rheumatologist to if I have GERD as I have nearly all symptoms and am an autoimmuner. I was on ibuprofen 800 mg daily for nearly a decade before I got my first AI dx in my mid 20s. Thank you for helping to educate.

I'm 65, am a little over weight and have Hashimotos. I have had bad GERD for years. If I lie flat in bed at night the stomach acid will even sometimes come up into my mouth! That is very unpleasant and wakes me up immediately! I have been on low dose steroids for eight years now, due to another medical condition. I don't know if this low dose steroid history in any way contributes to my GERD. But, I do realize that some of my GERD is self inflicted. If I stay away from alcohol, cola, fried or spicy foods my symptoms are not as bad. I was prescribed a PPI medication years ago, but never started it. I never wanted to have any side effects from the PPI, like stomach bleeding. So, if I'm smart I stay away from the things that I know make my GERD worse...if I foolishly indulge in the foods and drinks bad for my GERD, I pay the price!!!

Do you sleep with a wedge pillow? It took a bit to get used to, but it helps me at night.

I don't have sjogrens but I do have dry eyes, mouth etc due to Lupus. I don't know if it will help but worth a go, stick the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth and hold hard for as long as you can and repeat. Every little helps?
