Oh this song. My husband and I had a tiny backyard wedding with no reception because of military training dates. But if we ever get our dream wedding I’ll dance to this song with my daddy. My bio dad walked out on my mom when she was pregnant with me and my daddy adopted and raised me since I was less than a year old. So he truly did love me first.

My dad cried . Then I wanted to say “ never mind dad ! I won’t !” My dad. The best date I ever had . Btw-he wasn’t my biological dad and yet we were the closest in the family till he passed . I was the daughter he got to walk down the aisle . He was never my step dad. He was the dad who stepped up. He’s my hero. I did his eulogy . Miss you pop! 💙 Now I’m crying . Dammit !

This song still makes me cry after the hundreds of times I've listened to it, and you are not the first one to have thought it was something else based on the song title without listening to it yet. I was in the car on the way to a doctor's appointment the first time I heard this, and when it hit me right about when it hit you what it was ACTUALLY about, I started bawling. Thankfully, I wasn't driving. My dad didn't walk me down the aisle at my wedding since he wasn't there, but this song still gets to him.

When I worked at the firehouse 1 of the biggest brutes I'd ever known humble as could b just big and mean looking, good coworker of mine. When his youngun got married he dedicated this 4 1 of the dances and stared down the groom the whole time. My whole unit was teared up cuz we knew how he was with her and had 2 hold back all the cracking up laughing cuz the groom even tho he knew him still had this like scared look on him lol. Good song.

So... Your reaction had me laughing yet at the same time I was crying. My husband and I married in 1998 (Still married almost 22 yrs later) we got married at City Hall. On our 10th wedding anniversary in 2008 we renewed our vows in front of our family and friends. My dad was FINALLY able to walk me down the isle and I got my father/daughter dance. And this was our song. I didnt see my dad often as he had some problems and also because he lived in Chicago and we live in Toledo, Oh. He passed away in 2011. The last time I saw him was our wedding in 2008. And although that was a long time to not see him I feel blessed that my last memory of him was dancing to this song. I love him and miss him every single day.

Number one father daughter dance at weddings. My brother died before my nieces wedding- they played this song with pictures of my brother with her growing up. Not a dry eye on the room. I videoed it and still cry. She stood in the back with her siblings crying uncontrollably.

Billy, your baby girl is one lucky little one - to have a Daddy who chokes up over any song that reminds you of her. You will go through so many "firsts" with her - some your heart will burst with pride - others, like when this day comes for her, it's going to tear at your heart. You're a wonderful Dad, and she's a very lucky young lady!

This was my wife's and my father-in-law's song at our wedding. Him and I have a bond like a father and son do. I have a 3 year old girl and everytime I hear this song it brings tears to my eyes, because I know one day I wont be the only man in her life. She's my best friend and I would love for her to choose this song when I have to give her away. If you're a dad out there you know what I'm talking about. Another great daddy daughter song is "she thinks were just fishing" by trace adkins. I take my little girl with me on HVAC service calls and she loves riding in the front seat of the truck and handing me tools. These are memories you'll never forget. God bless all you dads out there trying to make a living and also including your kids

I totally understand that feeling of 'they grow up so fast", I don't have a child myself yet but I have a niece that was born while I was still in high school. I helped raise that girl and now she's about to finish her first year in high school. I literally ask myself "How is this bright young woman the same silly little girl I used to babysit all the time?" It's crazy how you don't notice. I'm honestly so proud of her too. She's already working hard towards being a cosmetologist and I'm just rooting for her each step of the way.

I'm going to say, before I even watch this, that I am going to cry like a baby. This was the song my dad and I were going to dance to when I got married. Sadly I never got that dance as he passed away 2.5 years before I got married. This song and My Little Girl by Tim McGraw were our songs. When the song says I held her first in my dad's case he was the first person to touch me and my brother. He was taught how to take that roll with the dr behind him. My dad said these are my babies and I will be the first hands to hold them.

This song always makes me cry. My youngest daughter got married in 2017 and it was tough on this old man. Still hard to believe. Hold your little girl tight brother. The day will come, quicker than you realize, when you will have to let her go. The day will come, when instead of her chasing you for attention, you will be chasing her. Especially, if she lives 1,800 miles away, like mine does. They grow up so fast it hurts.

Not long after my husband and I first got engaged, my parents came to visit (we lived 1000 miles away at the time). Dad never said much about our engagement (or anything else, really, he's one of those strong, silent guys), but after they left we went back into our living room and found this CD sitting on the coffee table with a sticky note telling my then-fiance to listen to this song. We did, and I cried like a baby. I heard it playing over the speakers at some store recently, and damn if I didn't start tearing up again. I'm even tearing up now as I'm typing this.

I have a stepdad who's been in my life since I was 5. If I ever marry my father (who since I was 12 has had very little to do with me more of onligation) will give me to my stepdad and HE will give me away. Hes been my dad since before I can remember, hes the one who took me swimming, xmas parties and shared birthday events (we have the same birthday) and I have NEVER felt like he wouldnt be there for me or there was anything he wouldnt do for me so he will be the one giving me away and hes who I view as my father (tho I call him Bill due to his insistence not to hurt my father when I was young)

From a daughter’s point of view, I can remember daddy teaching me to waltz, walking me down the aisle to my wonderful husband and whispering to him that it was not giving me away, it was only a loan. And later, many years later, the privelege of holding his hand as he took his last breathe and knowing how much he loved me. Miss you daddy

My daughter is going to middle school next year. Soon I'll be dealing with boyfriends and drama. It blows my mind that in just a year that little girl who I watched grow from diapers to gaming will soon be a teenager. Coming to my place and then driving away to hang out with friends in just 5 years. Cherish every minute guys. Like the country song says "don't blink". It happens so fast and at some point you just have to trust that you've taught them right. Taught them to be careful, taught them what to look out for. Before you know it that little bundle of dependency becomes her own woman, and as she was along for the ride for the first 16 years, you realize that you're riding along with her as she has the wheel.

Ironically this song makes me think of my sister , me and her where super close our entire life ( we are exactly 1 year 2 months and a day apart) , we were always together , people thought we were twins , then she met a boy in middle school and they stayed together and married in 2009 ( they literally are 32 and 33 have been together for 20 years and married over 10 there love story is incredible and he has been with us through everything ) and I use to tell him all the time “I loved her first” lol so for me is relatable on a sister level ❤️

I'm LBYSE today too Billy! My son's wife gave birth to their second daughter today and I've been teary-eyed today just seeing the love on his face as a daddy looking at his precious little angel. This song just pushed me over the edge today...
