I forgot to comment that you shouldn't use more than 4 carriers at the same time because they get cripling penalities for each extra one over four. This rule is the only reason your carriers should have as many hangars as possible (400 planes in 4 carriers are going to sink everything while 400 planes in 8 carriers do absolutely nothing...)

I never even try to fix my navy. I just produce ships and send them out while my land forces do everything that's needed

I just normally group navy with a "the cool ships I learned about in history class" fleet A "Haven't learned about them in history class" fleet And finally a "submarines to do all the work" fleet

As someone who started playing just for the navy part of the game I can safely say that even if the screening ratio is properly done you'll still lose half of your fleet if it's not properly built

When it come to navy building, I prefer to use only light cruisers and destroyers. Arm one version of cruisers with spotting and light attack capabilities, and other one with anti air. Destroyers are usually armedwith dept charges alongside torpedos, it works for me so far.

So, when making a light cruiser or destroyer we should give them as much screening and sonar as possible as well as some AA weapon and a lighter naval gun to help with screening, anti-sub duties and AA defenses while emphasizing speed. Then make cruisers and battleship which has a lotta main guns and AA to fight other capital ships. After that give the carrier as much space for naval bombers and fighters as possible with some AA into the mix and we have a pretty good all rounded fleet with say 1 CVN, 1 BB or CGN, 5 DD and 3 CL to directly combat enemy vessels while keeping threats of enemy carrier low due to the massive AA coverage of the fleet.

1 carrier = 1 battleship / battlecruser = 3 heavycruser = 3 destroyer / lightcruser its like math problem 😂😂😂

What’s funny is that I actually like the Navy system and have a general idea of how it works, but it’s mostly because I just stack my fleets and they wipe out the ai’s fleet

I typically run 3 Carriers, 4 battleships, 4 Heavy cruisers, 6 light cruisers and 24 to 30 destroyers.

Okay so basically, avoid Navy

Glass cannon cruisers (Basically less armored light cruisers with a lot of light attack and some anti-air) with at least 6 torpedo destroyers (Basically just destroyers with Torpedo lunchers and some anti-air) are a very effective, cheap and simple composition of a single player fleet. The anti-air will reduce the effectiveness of enemy planes a lot. The insanse light attack of your cruisers will obliterate any enemy screen ships in a short time while your destroyers are waiting with their torpedos to finish off any big cruisers, battle ships and carriers once there are no more screens to protect them. 6 destroyers at least because now and then you will lose 2-3 of them and it gives your more expensive cruisers enough time to escape. This way and while using modern ships (1940+) you can even challenge the Allied fleets with countries like China, Spain or Sweden because the A.I. doesn't produce modern or even good ships and because they don't have anything to encounter fleets with insanse stats. And you also don't need to wait like half the game to finish a single battle ship because you can spam out a lot of cruisers and destroyers in the same time.

The video is a little misleading as it says that your middle line is where you have your battleships (which is true) but in fact it's were ALL heavy ships (like heavy cruisers a and battlecruisers) go exept for carriers and transport ships that go to the last line of defense. For the same reason, transports and carriers need at least one HEAVY SHIP each(a battleship is not required as the video misleads you to think). This is crucial for an amphibious assault, in case it gets intercepted, because you need to protect your boys until they reach the landing beach. I try to mantain a ratio of two heavies for every carrier or transport and a minimum of 4 to 1 lights for every other type of heavy (because light ships get sunk pretty easily). Also, take into account that some admirals get skills that allow them to ignore a percentage of the sreening total and that means that a more realistic ratio should be at least 6 lights per one "other" (just in case). By the way, submarines have totally different rules and we will have to wait for another video...

I remember when I used 5-1 ratio of light cruisers to destroyers for convoy protection and 1-5 ratio of heavy to light cruisers for fleet-in-being as Australia (and then, with some sheer luck, I was able to get some Line Cruisers as well). Later I saw the result of a battle, in which I literally stackwiped majority of Japanese Navy. Don't ask me how exactly, I don't know either - but it seems to be working.

The great war redux mod for hoi4 made navies a bit more comprehensible

From my understanding: The light ships (destroyers & light cruisers) 'screen' against torperdoes, the 4 to 1 light ship to capital ratio ensures no torpedo gets past to damage the capitals until the light ships are destroyed. The heavy ships (heavy cruisers, battlecruisers & battleships) protect the backline which are carriers and transports/convoys from heavy attack by other heavy ships, basically instead of your carriers or convoys taking damage and sinking, your heavy ships will tank for them.

All i know is that fast battlecruisers with destroyer screens shreds everything, no carriers needed.

For whatever reason Navy seems to have just been my thing from the draw (minus Carriers). I recently picked up Pride and Extreme Prejudice with Sweden, without stealing any ships in peace deals. Strong capitals are extremely important. So long as you have enough screens to cover them, they will do almost all of your work. I generally skip producing Battlecruisers and just focus on having one dominant battleship template per the era I'm in.

My navy typically consists of four different types of battle groups. 1. The Sea Wolves: Submarine-exclusive flotilla meant to patrol sea zones for hostile fleets and sink as many as possible to soften them up for other groups. 2. Patrol Fleet: A mix of destroyers and light cruisers designed to protect coastlines, watch for submarines, and spot enemy attack fleets for mainline groups to engage. 3. Frontline Battlers: Battleships, battle cruisers, and heavy cruisers meant to join patrol fleets when they eye enemy fleets and engage in head-to-head fighting. Typically among the most expensive, so only one or two per armada. If you get your hands on a super heavy battleship, that typically joins one of these groups as the pride of the fleet, at least for me. 4. Carrier Groups: Carriers protected by battle cruisers and light cruisers meant to provide support from the rear by launching planes to attack enemies from afar. If you don't have super heavies, one of these carriers works well as the pride of the fleet. Again, expensive, so only one or two per armada.

For anyone actually wanted to Navy. Tip is. Build Destroyer 20 of them 5 to 10 Light cruiser 3 to 5 Heavy cruiser 2 BB and 4 Aircraft carriers (Battlecarrier or Cruiser carrier, 40 planes) This is the Most optimal sortie. (From my experience) This navy can Solo British navy piece by piece. (but this does Kill you easy if you engaged the entire British navy) But it's still better to Build Subs (Convoy raid) and Destroyer/Light cruiser (Smoke/Escort)

500 hours and all Ik is that big numbers in naval and 100% screening (no idea what it effects) makes me happy 😂

I figured there was a minimum ratio as per the "insufficient escorts" penalty, nice to know what that is.

I use in one group 6 carriers, 4 battlecruisers, 7 light cruisers and 13 destroyers (35+ speed is essential) and no enemy navy group can take me off, should replace only some destroyers sometimes.

America starts with a Navy big enough that you don’t have to worry about any of that. You only need to do some modifying if you’re anyone else but Japan and USA.

currently torps are bugged soo no, screening doesnt matter, when the dlc comes out sure, but rn stop the cap, and carrier screening is useless aslong as you have 1 heavy ship and 1 light ship remaining since heavy attack can only attack the 1st 2 non empty groups, soo having heavy ships is actually useful

The main problem with navy in newer versions is oil consumption. It's easy to burn tons of fuel and achive nothing. I would like a convoy system where DD and CL are assigned to trade/supply routes instead of sea zones.

Best way to use navy as a Minor: - Spam a shit ton of naval bombers - Spam a shit ton of torpedo subs - Just don't use navy if you aren't an island nation lol

Sorry paradox, I just produce 10-15 light aa/light gun cruisers with light armor (10 of each usually) and steamroll every naval engagement through sheer volume of fire, naval speed, and reproducibility!

When asking for Navy advice i realised i had done more navy within my first 120 hours then some 1000 hours plus players had.

You can just ignore Battleship, battlecruisers, torped cruisers and costal defence ships. Carriers cruisers and destroyers are the best. Also subs for patroling.
