Based on simple and intuitive hand management, Heat: Pedal to the Metal puts players in the driver's seat of intense car races, jockeying for position to cross the finish line first, while managing their car's speed if they don't want to overheat. Selecting the right upgrades for their car will help them hug the curves and keep their engine cool enough to maintain top speeds. Ultimately, their driving skills will be the key to victory!

This was probably my favourite game of 2023, but I never play with the basic module, it's too simple and doesn't allow for player customisation. When I teach, I do a quick half-lap with the basic decks to show people how to play the game - they get it very quickly that way - and then we set up a "real" race and they get to customise their cars. It adds a layer of surprise and makes it more interesting for new players when you say "Okay so now you get the game, it's simple right? We're going to take it up to the NEXT LEVEL!" :D

I was not interested in Heat at all, I don't like racing games, it's not a theme I'm interested in either. Then I played it and instantly liked it, played it a few more times and Heat was the only game so far this year that made me buy a new game. The main reason I would want the expansion is for the 7th player, it sucks if you have someone interested in joining but don't have the extra car cause it does play fairly well at 7 but as you said, it's an extremely bad price so I wait for it to be a little cheaper. Since I often have larger groups this one is absolutely ideal, players perfectly well with 5 and 6 players.

I've enjoyed my time with Heat (the AI racers are a great inclusion), probably don't need Heavy Rain yet (one day though lol). Also thanks for including setup time in your reviews - always good to know!

@@BoardOfItReviews I understand the family and simplicity aspect. But I don't think heat looks as inviting as Wingspan. I say that as someone who gets board of out his mind when playing wingspan 😁 great content nonetheless

@@HorseIRL I see what you mean. Yea I get that, but I think once you show people Heat they really get into it, even if it's not as appealing as Wingspan. Not as a rule of course, like yourself! Thank you!
