We have the 400 model. I auger out the ashes once a week and clean the heat exchanger once a month. I buy a truckload of logs each year and supplement it with dead trees I cut down around the farm. Heating an older restored farmhouse , a 30 X 50 shop, and the hot water in both. Hydro bill is cheaper in the winter than it is in the summer. Turn the breaker off to HWT in the winter. Load it twice a day. It's more work, but when you look at oil, propane or hydro prices, it's cheaper. Good video.

Coal is a better choice, burn 24 hours and never run out of heat. $ 90 a ton for coal at the mine in Sparta, Illinois. You can't afford to cut wood as long as coal is available. Bituminous lights and burns easier than Anthracite.
