in the min 16:00 Eg dot = q dot * Area * L , q dot and Area and L are given, plug in the values to get 1000*10*1 = Eg dot, hence the equation is : Est dot= Ein dot + Eg dot - E out dot Est dot = 120 kW+(1000*10*1) - 160 kW Est dot = -30 kW = -30000 W Hope this helps :)

Thank you so much for the courses! At 15:58 in the Heat Diffusion Equation we get Watts/m^3. We need to multiplie to volume (AxL) to get Watts.

@14:40 you shouldn't rule Eg dot out of the equaation. It represents the term q dot *Volume. Having that and Ein dot as q (x=0) and Eout dot as q (x=L), you'll get to the correct answer of -30kW fot Est dot.

@14:40, should Egen be q dot * volume = 10000 W (assuming z=1)? If so then the Est equation would equal -30,000 W

18:09 can someone explain why you can solve for Pc_p dT/dt and how that gets you to the Est = -30,000W?
@theograss2186
@theograss2186 10 ай бұрын
So you use the entire diffusion equation like he did before as we solved for those values in the previous part. So from the right hand side you divide over density and c_p and solve for dT/dt, since density and c_p are known. Using this result you can then solve for Est =density*c_p*dT/dt. Hope this helps

E_gen should be q_dot * volume, so 1000 W/m^3 * 10m^2 * 1m= +10,000 W, and therefore it's -30,000 instead of -40,000.

I don't understand the whining about the camera here. To those who are doing that, if you bring your cursor over to the video, two thick, vertical bars will appear to the bottom left called the pause button. If you click on it, the video will freeze at that particular frame and you can take notes. Another way to do that is to press the long key called 'spacebar' on your keyboard. It also pauses the video. Imo, Professor Biddle is the most interesting part of this lecture and it is best to keep him focussed except when he is writing on the board. So, props to the camera man.
