A much needed video to clarify what it means to have MCS and the processes involved.

Hi Adam. I am a big fan of your channel and have learnt more from it about heating than from anywhere else. BUT! I am always concerned about certification schemes. I work in the water industry installing water pumps for the utilities and luckily as I have been doing it for near on 30 years they just seem to except I know what I'm doing. Except Anglian Water who wanted me to have a Achillies accreditation this costs around 1600 quid a year and I did about 10k of work for them so there goes any profit. Also I have subcontracted people with various accreditations and they have been useless all it seems to prove is there office staff can do the right paperwork. And because they have all this staff doing paperwork there prices are twice as high. Many years ago with one of the water companies the engineer asked me to cost a job against there consultant company that was tied to them and the result was I was a quarter of the cost to do exactly the same job. I do believe training is required to get the correct result but on my experience it doesn't prove you get a good job just because they have an accreditation. Keep up the good work it's helped me become a diy genius!

Just to add a little context to my previous comment. My friends elderly parents have had solar and ashp fitted for free on a grant from there local council. I have no idea how they managed it but that's another story. It was an MCS registered company that carried out the work and both the solar and the ashp install is shocking. No heat loss calls just bunged in a 12kw heat pump that's more than likely oversized. Pipe work in the garage where they fitted the tank un supported starts in copper changes to plastic and back to copper before it leaves the garage. Heat pump is on top of the garage so couldn't see up there. Solar fitted with wrong type of Mcb. How do they have a mcs cert

Ah, good old MCS. Putting barriers in the way and inflating end user costs since they came into existence. The government body that serves no purpose and is hindering the uptake of low carbon technologies.

So how many of your Heat Geek qualified installers are MCS registered and do you run an umbrella system for them. thanks.

Hgow long does the mcs certificate take to come through? Installed in October and told certificate would be posted but still not received it.

So my panels are already connected to the Grid...and excess power exits there for free. So why, if I want to sell my excess power, do I then have to prove MCS certification of installer and equipment?

Are these just UK specific? Is there an EU equivalent?
