I bought a set of 3 for my last house. Put them on a 1200 x 600 K2. Getting a heat pump in my new house so interested to know how much these improve the output of a radiator. Can I just compare the temp difference across the radiator before and after installing them to work this out? Let me know if you want results. Set of 3 is approx £100, and might be cheaper than upgrading radiator sizes in some cases or may limit your overall upgrade costs.

The solar power is restricted in the offering, one size fits nobody. I liked the gear but the inability to have a power backup during a power disruption from fallen trees and other causes of grid failure. They only gave a take it or leave it, then dropped the main supplying company and moved to Enphase, another excellent producer but once again only get what is offered not what you need.

Air to Air inverter heat pumps do not suffer from the pump switching on and off noise change and they make much less noise when not running at full power.

I believe CTC and others have had this concept for ages, meaning the heat pump is heating the cylinder and dhw is made on the fly using a coil. Had one in my house earlier, CTC EcoEl.

My air to air cassette is a great in combination with my steady state heat pump to quickly increase room temperature in the mornings and Colder evenings. Also all in one cylinder head pump units are widely available and reasonably priced.

@1:22 Why did you even have to add a hydronic "load" leg to the system for the explanation? Radiators are mainly a European thing. I should've known to skip when I saw the backwards hat.

Can't believe that Daikin don't supply a user manual/guide for these; at leasy I couldn't find one. My step Daughter has just bought a new build with ASHP and it has the Daikin controller, she couldn't understand why her downstairs rads didn't warm, at first quick glance it looked like it was app controlled. Still haven't quite sussed it out but this and some other videos have been incredibly helpful.

Why can't a heat pump work on a standard open vented indirect cylinder therefore avoiding all the associated extra cost of unvented hw
@UrbanPlumbers

It can, but you still need a new cylinder with a bigger coil but you can keep it vented

I'm thinking to put the monobloc heatpump INSIDE a 400 m3 glasshouse, with only the fan side blowing outside. The glasshouse is also where the ventilation system exhaust bad air from inside the house (800m3/h) . It's a passive house with 6kwh heatpump+underfloor hearing running 24/7 - so nowhere close to maximum power/airflow. If there's not enough airflow I can always leave a small window cracked in the glasshouse. Was thinking during the sunny days the COP should be significantly better and less (or no) defrosting. Do you think it'd work?

You didn’t explain how.. while you can get 600% efficiency, how do we know that someone who takes your online training knows how? Your guarantees are only 350% efficiency, so I’m not confident we can achieve anywhere near this with another engineer.

2 - 4pm is also our peak solar energy production time so we are storing excess electricity as hot water. Only had the system since last week but we seem to be importing no more electricity than we did before the installation plus we are not using gas for hot water and not paying the standing charge.

I have just had a Daikin heat pump fitted and am amazed at how complicated it is even to just get basic temperature settings right. I mean who is going to want to talk about graph curves etc. Surely a simple ECO mode etc would be better for most people. If I showed this video to friends and family they would be unlikely to follow our example

I want to say a big thank you to Octopus and Greg Jackson for providing forward looking contracts and buying my unused solar. This has meant that last month I charged my EV at home, heated my DHW with my ASHP and cooked on an electric cooker, as well as all my home use and I had no bill, in fact I was credited by Octopus. I am a consumer but I really enjoy watching the Heat Geeek channel and learning more about my ASHP.

What happens when a heat pump manufacturer produces a heatpump with a defect affecting efficiency, such as the Vaillant energy integral counting bug in firmware V351.06.07 - Are either of you going to hold them to account when they refuse to fix it? Vaillant has fobbed me off, saying they don't consider it an issue even though they've fixed it in a later firmware version. (Which requires an expensive board replacement) Heat Geek doesn't appear to care either, telling me it's not their problem and that I should contact Vaillant. Octopus, do you care enough about efficiency to use your size to force manufacturers such as Vaillant to put their game and stand behind their products, including when there are software issues? Lots of words are being said about wanting to drive change, but let's see you both hold manufacturers to account.
@HeatGeek
@HeatGeek 7 күн бұрын
Any jobs through us we take full responsibility of regardless of the manufacturer. We contractually hold ourselves responsible. If you have used someone trained by us but not run the job through us we can’t really do anything about the works they do outside of our ecosystem..
@yngndrw.
@yngndrw. 7 күн бұрын
@@HeatGeek But this goes beyond contractual responsibility, this is about reputational damage to the industry. When we have large, top-tier manufacturers shirking their responsibilities and knowingly producing products with out-of-spec software which cannot be easily updated and that negatively affects efficiency, in an industry which has enough nay-sayers about reliability, complexity and efficiency - They are causing reputational damage which affects you and the environmental action you are pursuing regardless of who has installed it. Due to your size, you are in a small group of organisations that are in a position to hold manufacturers such as Vaillant to account, to demand better from them. Individual installers are not in the position you are, by standing up you're helping all of your installers by ensuring they have products which the manufacturers themselves will stand behind. Pushing back against this sloppy product support benefits the consumer, it benefits you as a business within the industry, it benefits the industry as a whole and it benefits the environment - Whether there's a contractual obligation to help or not. So why wouldn't you push them to support their products? Will you still support the use of their products, knowing that Vailliant won't stand behind their own products? PS: Will you be replacing the control board of every HeatGeek Assured Vaillant install with an affected firmware version proactively, or will you only do so if a customer notices? This kind of question is why it directly affects you as a business.

I'd be interested to see how well that performs in the real world. In winter the sun is much, MUCH weaker and will only heat up the buffer so much. I have solar for domestic hot water and for the winter months I have to rely on our heatpump to heat the water for my shover. GRanted, the water needed for a low-temperature heating of a home can be far lower than the minimum temperature required for a comfortable shover. That said, I would love to see a video of how a buffer tanks effects the overall efficiency of a heat pump central heating system.

Hi Adam. A query for you. In my limited experience ( ASHP installed 3 weeks ago), the MMI information system is next to useless. I don’t know if you’ve looked at it. In theory I should be able to calculate my COP, from elec used and elec produced. However all figures are rounded to 1kwh increments, which is unhelpful. Secondly sometimes it doesn’t report energy used, and sometimes it reports energy used, when none was! The sum of the space and water heating varies from the sum of the two indiv sections. Daikin support told me it’s not intended to be used to provide this info ( what is it for then), can you cast any light on this. How am I supposed to calculate my cop. Please don’t tell me about all the wonderful third party add ons I find all that way to technical for me. It seems exceedingly remiss of Daikin not to include a tool that gives the cop, seems as we are all obsessed by it ( well I know I am). I can only calculate COP on a DHW process and then only providing I ensure I have a constant consumption baseline to work from, ie I’ve turned everything else in the house off barring the router. Adam can you help. Congrats on the partnership with Octopus by the way.

It's a really good idea, that I am sure will help get more decarbonisation done. Next off please try and sort out the madness of the MCS scheme, which wants to insist that I replace my nearly new hot water tank with a very similar one, or I won't get the grant - madness!

@HeatGeek Current 2 year old tank is HeatraeSadia PP210B. Works fine for us for hot water on current gas boiler @45 degree flow temp. Been told needs replacing as the coil isn't big enough to work with a heat pump and unless it was changed then wouldn't qualify for MCS or £7.5k grant... WDYT? (P.s. have a Eddi as well do most of our hot water is from solar, MCS doesn't seem to take this into account...)

It would be good to see a video of the exact upfront costs versus savings by having a HP. In essence it’s all well and good saying there’s a saving, but I suspect dividing the huge upfront costs over months versus savings, will make this look different. Going greener is good, but it’ll take 30 years plus to completely change.

With a well ventilated loft couldn't a heat pump be installed there. It would benefit from the absence of cooling winds and possibly warmer air due to heat lost from the rooms below. Weight issues could surely be dealt with, of course a suitably sized access would be required.

I have enjoyed following Heat Geek for many years, and I agree we need to decarbonise and that heat pumps are an excellent way to do this. However, it seems that Octopus is much more interested in short-term profit than the environment. I have been on Intelligent Octopus Go (and it's predecessor) for about 3 years. For just over a year Octopus has been unable to provide me with a proper energy bill. I am now told that I will be billed at standard rates rather than 7.5p agreed. This makes heat pumps, batteries, and evs financially unviable. People need to be extremely cautious about committing to this new technology if Octopus can renege on the agreed rates at a moments notice.
