Heavenly Delight How to Make Authentic Labbeh Shiri by Cookcraft Delight
Labbeh Shiri, also known as Lebanese Rice Pudding, is a delicious and comforting dessert. Here's a recipe to make this traditional treat:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup rice (short-grain rice is preferred)
- 4 cups water
- 4 cups milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon rose water (optional, for flavor)
- 1 tablespoon orange blossom water (optional, for flavor)
- Ground cinnamon and crushed pistachios for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
1. *Cook the Rice:*
- Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
- Add the rice to the boiling water.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the rice is soft and has absorbed most of the water, about 15-20 minutes.
2. *Add Milk and Sugar:*
- Add the milk to the pot with the cooked rice.
- Stir in the sugar.
- Increase the heat to medium and cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens and the rice is very tender, about 20-30 minutes. Make sure to stir often to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
3. *Flavor the Pudding:*
- Once the pudding has thickened, add the rose water and orange blossom water if using. Stir well to combine.
- Continue to cook for another 5-10 minutes, stirring frequently, until the pudding reaches your desired consistency.
4. *Serve and Garnish:*
- Remove the pot from the heat and let the pudding cool slightly.
- Pour the pudding into serving bowls.
- If desired, garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon and crushed pistachios.
- Serve warm or chilled, according to your preference.
Tips:
- For a creamier texture, you can use a combination of milk and cream.
- Adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste preference.
- The addition of rose water and orange blossom water gives a traditional flavor, but it can be omitted if you prefer a simpler taste.
Enjoy your homemade Labbeh Shiri!
