Tyson didn't have that many KO's only due to his enormous power but because he forced the KO by rushing his opponents mercylessly and recklessly from the start. It is pretty naive to believe he had more power than the much bigger Klitschko, it is rather that he has a fast KO style. Klitschko fights cautious, safety first, from outside, that is why his KO's happened later, but in 98% they happened!

Oh I know who the hell Evander Holyfield is. I am talking about the heavyweight version of Holyfield, the Holyfield with a pending heart problem. I know he was the king of conditioning in his era. Still doesn't change the fact that Holyfield was not a volume puncher in the heavyweight division. He didn't throw punches that he didn't have to throw. Check the punchstats for many of his heavyweight fights, especially vs. Bowe, who completely outworked Holyfield in all 3 fights.

I don't see why you put "champions" in quotation marks, as there are only two champions in the current heavyweight division (except paper champ Povetkin), that's Wlad and Vitali, and both are recognized as the best. And both are actually quite talented and skilled.

Ray Mercer was indeed the tank of the 90's. He would have given any champion a tough match. I wish he had fought Tyson, Bowe and Tua. Some fights they would have been.

@TheBrownbongo Lewis was collapsing on his stool after that last couple rounds. He was winded. He did not train as he did for Tyson, Rahman 2 and the Holyfield fights. Lewis thought he was going to fight Kirk Johnson anyways.

I wonder if some of you questioning his punching power realize you're throwing out names of guys who are nearly a foot shorter in some cases and many who Vit outweighs by nearly 50 pounds in peak shape. You can't compare giants who are trained to fight tall- at distance, constant jabbing, few combinations- to guys who swarmed or guys who bobbed and weaved nonstop to get inside. Lennox Lewis' power was underrated for instance simply because of his 84" reach.

@MorphX It's always very subjective. Each boxer fights in his generation. If we talk about old days, we've to define them. Tyson fought in a rather weak era. He has beaten the best fighters in his prime, such as Pinklon Thomas, Trevor Berbick, Mitch Green, Tony Tucker etc. but his opponents weren't special in general. Interestingly many people forget to consider this. I also think that many of the past time greats are overrated compared to those today.
