When servicing or replacing the brakes on a heavy duty or commercial vehicle, knowing if it has a long stroke brake chamber or a standard stroke brake chamber is important. In this video, Master Technician Ken Boyer of Garage Gurus demonstrates how to tell the difference between these two types of brake chambers.

Does it matter if your replacement hoses are all the same length? Meaning let's say you need to have four 24'' hoses but only have three and decide to use a 13 inch hose on one where it will have the ability to connect? So if one side has a 24'' on the Emergency brake side and there is a 13'' on the other's Emergency Brake side would that cause an issue?

Different hose lengths and sizes effect balance/timing no matter the location they are placed. This imbalance effects the service side more than the emergency side however the same length/size hose should always be used as an inspector could take the vehicle out of service for just the hose length.

Yes it would create a brake imbalance application.

How can they cause brake unbalance when they are both type 30 diaphram producing the same power......

The unbalance occurs because of the half inch more stroke the long stroke has. If the shoes are worn, drums are worn, the standard stoke could be at the end of its applied stoke no longer applying braking force. However due to the ½ inch additional stoke of the long stoke chamber, the long stoke could still be applying braking force.
